Thank you so much for sharing this.. definitely makes huge sense. Explains a lot for me.. as an undiscovered artist I work every weekend sometimes 4x a week. I have been ( without even realizing it ) establishing my Facebook presence with my fans. It just happened lol probably because I talk too much lol I came across this as I was researching other platforms trying to decide which ones to start next.. so now I know lol I do have an Instagram and I just need to start producing content . Started a reverb nation.twitter . and soundcloud but haven’t really utilized them effectively .. yet lol I need to clean them up ( probably starting with my RUclips.. and start engaging more.. I’m just concerned that I need to find a system that doesn’t keep me online all day.. I’d rather be working on my art. I perform mostly covers but I just started writing and performing originals.. as of such I haven’t definitely attached myself to a specific genre.. I am blessed to have a diverse taste in music. But I would say that my voice is highly suitable for blues country etc.. So I’m thinking funny angry chick songs to the heart wrenching soul touching stuck in your dna tunes lol I wanna go with memorable. So I am definitely beginning to work on the legacy aspect.. I would like to start putting some energy inti finding other types of venues that I would go over well at. But I’m not sure where to seek out that other than in local publications Facebook groups etc.. but I want to start expanding out of my local area.. regionally and in NYC. There has to be a demand for what I do as my following is growing without too much pushing.. I don’t push.. sometimes I can create my event the day if and still have a really good turn out.. no doubt my local friends who feel I am just lucky or because it’s I’m pretty blah blah blah but it’s because of the energy I radiate and the fact that they feel connected to my music.. because my music is just as important to them as it is me. There are a lot of artists that are all about themselves and if you are not connected to your audience then you are missing out. THAT is why what you speak of is dead on. So now thanks to your video I understand that more deeply so the next step after that would be finding the appropriate venues for what I would like to offer. Right now it’s high end Long Island restaurants. But I really like playing to captive audiences . I performed solo with a couple of originals for the first time last week and it was a great experience and I want more of that.. I had recently recorded a demo of covers and am Totally hooked that I NEED to write some great originals and record them.. I can just feel it :) At first it was unnerving but I’m starting to discover I am definitely meant to be a story teller.. And it’s about the connection . So I can definitely foresee myself as having a cult following lol I’ve lived a life of hell and still have a sense of humor. So people seem to gravitate towards that . It’s therapy for them and me lol they also gravitate towards me because they can live through me.. i give them hope.. Ive overcome a lot of struggles. And I am living my dream .. It’s interesting that you mentioned in s comment to someone else about how you found yourself popular in Japan.. one of the things I would like to do is go to Europe to explore ( I love classical music) and while I am there would like to perform if even only at open mics just to get a feel for the scene there .. maybe pick up a few random gigs and be welcomed back. Wouldn’t suck lol I do have to confess I’m not about success in terms of $$$ or attention.. I am all about the love of music and I think that is what makes me attractive to my audience. It’s other music lovers.. and I have a very friendly personality but I also have the ability to project my vulnerability as a human to my audience.. they connect in an emotional level and that is where my original music is going to take them.. further into their heart and soul. So while I’m considered old by industry standards I would imagine this new age of technology will allow for that as long as I know my market.. which I feel is going to change a bit as I start to become more known. I do not have grand illusions of becoming mainstream or epic.. but I do want to enjoy my ride .. and see where it leads. I never expected to be doing what I am doing now and I never expected to be going any further but apparently my destiny was not what I thought it would be.. but the signs have always been there.. I am just becoming aware that I am meant to keep in this journey and see where it leads. I am very exited about that. Who knows.. maybe some days out parts with cross again but our in the real world Looking forward to more of your videos and I am going to go check out your music right now :) Have an awesome day!
I'm currently learning, solely on the net, about the music industry, and this video has been quite an insight thank you. I'm not in a position to goto college, engage people face to face etc.. & Although I have some songs written, I know where I'm currently at.. Dreamland :) I've been learning the guitar for 3 years (since I was 35), been singing, in my bedroom, since 11 and just hoping that one day I might be able to beat my health issues and connect with people with my music, even earn a living from it. I'm having a lot of fun learning and making new friends with it, am active on my social media as much as I can and enojoying the journey!! I guess the most important thing to me at the moment is learning everything about playing, the industry, finding my voice and connecting with people. That's what music is all about to me, telling a story and connecting with eachother :)
I want to encourage you +TristanJClaxton that there it's never too late to start, so don't let anybody feed you any bullshit ageism crap. You are in a great spot because of all your life experience gained and wisdom learned along the way. Check out my website for my Rebel Creative podcast where I've talked about this in more than one occasion. It might help you also. I'm 42, so I know where you are at and what it's like. It's simply never too late. You are doing something most people are too scared to do. Keep going and don't quit!!! 👊🏼👊🏼👊🏼
Deane, thank you very much!! If that isn't a thought provoking inspirational comment, I don't know what is! I'll definitely check out that podcast on your site, I very much enjoyed this video. I certainly have a lot of life experience, wisdom, not sure of that, but life experience is where all my lyrics come from. It's certainly not all a life of roses, a lot of times are pretty dark, and although I can't help myself much, I have helped others through some rough times though.. that's where the 'light' come into my writing.
Hey Deane, thank you very much for this video!!! I'm probably going to watch it a few more times. I did have a question about gaining attention overseas. Especially in Japan. I'm really into Japanese anime and want to know what are some ways I can gain attention over there and grow a fanbase.
Thanks for checking out the video, Avery-Dante! Japan is a different beast altogether and you really have to be genuine about integrating and building a fanbase there. I did it by releasing an album that was largely written and recorded in Tokyo and Kyoto. I think that is important: To be honestly interested in them before they will be interested in you. In my case, it was purely accidental. I was there to just experience their culture and it ended up becoming a piece of art, which they then grabbed onto and made something out of on social media. If I look at it objectively, they essentially honored it by taking possession in their own time. Make sense? You have to figure out how to give to them and add value to them and their culture without expecting anything in return. The Japanese are a very honorable people. If the art is worthy, they'll grab on in their own time. They'll honor it, but it's reciprocal.
Thanks you very much Deane!!! I understand what your saying and I'll move forward with that mindset. I want the experience to be genuine so I'll try to emulate that. Thank you for replying so soon I really appreciate it. The information you're sharing is vital for people who want to take their artistry to the next level. If I have anymore questions I hope you don't mind if I bother in the future. I've also been sharing your videos with my colleagues.
Thanks Deane..! Interesting video.. U omitted Ed Sheeran though.. 🤔 lol btw, would u put Sade on _EPIC_ too..? She's kinda comparable to what u said about Bruce Springsteen's catalogue not needing to be social media driven, yet it's closer to Taylor Swift's, in terms of how many albums.. 🎶 Oh & is Ogden a common surname..? I know about 3 people with that surname.. I often wonder if each is related to the other.. 💭 - @Acharich
She has a fucking space in the Artists Gallery @ the MIM....in Phoenix. She's the youngest Legacy artist I've ever heard of. I personally tihnk her music is sub par.
5 stages introduced at 2:35. Like for others to see!
The rock hard truth, and I love it. Definitely taking this to heart, thank you
+Gerald Cerda Thanks for watching, Gerald!
We are at Mainstream and need to work to EPIC
Amazing video thank you!
I am going to be doing artist development with Jason Davis in Nashville. What will I be doing in this?
Great! Thank you Deane for the tips!
Here from a score did for the sci-Fi short “The Final Moments of Karl Brant.” Thanks for your insights and ideas, and great content 🙏🏽
This guy is the best at what he does!
Very well done brother!! Very insightful and extremely educational.

This is huge, thanks man, great insight & advice! :)
+Jakob Mecke So glad it was helpful, Jakob!
What about Drake he sold more and broke more records than anyone you mentioned
Was waiting on him to mention Drake all video
@@BROADWAYBU exactly! .. all the record breaking and still he’s the artist that they hate to mention.

Really enjoying your videos, thanks to being told about you by Emma Sweeney.
Great stuff!
This is fucking awesome, where do you get these metrics?
Just looked up some of these artists and answered my own question hahaha, coffee would be nice right now!
+Joshua Pettinger There are several aggregators, Joshua, but I think Next Big Sound is the best one. 👊🏼
+Joshua Pettinger 😁
What’s the name of the name of the platform you’re showing up with their artist’s metrics?
So so helpful thank you !!!
Great advice as always !! :)
I need this!!!!!
