Been a diehard fan since 1974 when I was in 7th grade. I'm a recovering addict and no doubt Aerosmith is part of the reason I'm still here as I gave up drugs 30 years ago tomorrow God willing😊👍. I did drugs to their music but now clean I have a different attachment to the music I will never stop listening to even at 61. Greatest rock band in my lifetime no doubt!! Good to be alive😊

I was there, 3000 years ago, when radio, MTV, VH1 and Muchmusic where our main sources of music. When almost every month we had the release of a historic album. When we were all in love with Alicia Silverstone and Liv Tyler thanks to Aerosmith. The 90s were truly unique, and this album is the soundtrack of many of my memories of those years 😔♥
As a 90s kid, it's hard to even describe the rush of emotions this video and song bring together. This is one of my favorite, favorite things from the 90s. Truly Amazing.

This song helps me grieve properly, i'm glad my dad showed this great music. My father Kevin, 48. Died Dec 2019. Before the pademic i was just enjoying daily life, who knew that my life would be stripped out of happiness. Not only covid changed everything but losing him as well. So every now and then i come back to this song and think of all happy memories, gives me strength and confidence. Rest easy pops ill play this for you in the heavens! As he would say they probably wont open the heavens gate for him, i bet hes still knocking on heavens door

My mom had gotten into some trouble with drugs. She was put away for 3 years. I lived with my grandparents anyway but I adored my mom.
I wrote this song down-11 years old-and sent it to her.
She was an Aerosmith fan. Something about her daughter finding her own way to one of her faves, and sending the song…she came home and never looked back.
I’m proud of my mom. I have had my own issues since but this song will bring me back to Earth every time.

agree, a really well made song can make you feel energized or calm basically, it depends in the kind of music and obviously the quality and pasion.
And yes, we often forget to enjoy life, "feel" it and others things about the human experience.
you cannot always control it: real stress, real problems (not "first world problems") , live or death situations, danger,etc put you in an automatic mode needed to survive, but if you cannot put some "yourself" there you end up drained and discouraged whit time, even more when you fight whit things cannot be solved ( at least in this day and age) and you strugle whit fighting whitout a way out OR escaping/ giving up.
When I hear this now it’s reminds of a friend who has passed away. We used to work together and smoke pot at work while we wired houses. We both loved this song and I always think of him now when I hear this song. Rest in peace Matt. Miss you brother.

The fact that Get a Grip had THREE of the biggest ballads Aerosmith ever did helps make this album stand out. Then there’s the rest of the album. A total 10/10 masterpiece. A band that managed to rise from the ashes and have top hits across 4 different decades. Not many can say the same about themselves. This song tho, one of the best they ever did.

This song was written while he got clean off of drugs. There's no way he was high. I have a similar experience, When you get recovery in your life amazing things happen. God inspires you. hes talking about how he hung out with the wrong people and left out the good people.... "had an angel of mercy to see me through all my sins."... When you finally get sober you realize you had God watching over you all those years..."when i lost my grip and i hit the floor" means when he no longer could control the drug use and it spiraled out of control. " thought i could leave but couldnt get out the door" that means he couldn't stop the drugs even if he wanted to because addiction controls every aspect of your life , to the point where your family, career, and stability doesn't matter, he wanted desperately to stop using but couldn't....

This song is about climbing back to the top after you've hit rock bottom, specifically recovering from addition. Steven Tyler wrote it with Richie Supa, who collaborated with the band in the late '70s, co-writing their song "Chip Away the Stone."
Supa did a lot of drugs with the band and eventually got caught with a kilo of cocaine, which landed him three years in jail. After he got out, he went to an Aerosmith show at Madison Square Garden and met Tyler backstage... with an eight-ball of cocaine under his coat. Supa didn't realize that Tyler had gotten sober, and Steven called security to kick him out, telling him to come back when he had been off drugs and alcohol for a year.
Supa cleaned up, and after a year sent Tyler his Alcoholic Anonymous medallion to prove it. In the summer of 1991, they got together amid fears from Aerosmiths' management that Tyler would slink back into addiction in Supa's presence. Both knew they weren't going back to drugs and alcohol; when Tyler brought this up in a phone conversation, he told Supa, "Isn't it amazing?" which triggered the idea for this song.
Supa remembered something a client had said at one of his AA meetings: "I kept the right ones out and let the wrong ones in," which kickstarted his idea for the lyric about the descent into addiction and subsequent recovery. He flew out to meet Tyler, writing more of the lyric on the way, and when he go there, they finished the song in four hours - it was one of the first songs written for Get A Grip. The pair stayed sober, and would team up again to write the Aerosmith hit "Pink."
The line, "That one last shot's a permanent vacation" refers to the Aerosmith's comeback album Permanent Vacation, which put them back on top. The line, "How high can you fly with broken wings?" is a reference to their logo, which contains a set of wings. >>
This was the second of three Aerosmith videos that featured Alicia Silverstone, who had starred in the movie The Crush. All three clips - "Cryin'" and "Crazy" were the first - were directed by Marty Callner.

The first time I heard this song, I was in jail and had just about gotten over the coming down from drugs and alcohol. And at that moment I did realize that everything would be alright. So needles to say this song has big meaning in my life. Lyrics are great and that guitar outro is epic. Aerosmith was in the soundtrack off my life a hell of a lot.
I recently asked my mom if “seasons of wither” was about drug addiction and she said “you got it, now go listen to Amazing” cause I’m struggling. She was born in 59’. Had me in 96’ and named me “Tyler” after Steven

I don’t know your age, but I just turned 45 and man, do I know what you mean! Aerosmith’s early ‘90s resurgence was the soundtrack to my teenage life…first gf, first kiss, first heartbreak, all that jazz. I went through it with the drugs and alcohol, as well, and finally cleaned up about 9 years ago. I’m happy to be clean and sober, but man I did a lot of damage and would be in a much better position these days had I just kept my nose clean. Listening to these old songs, it makes those long gone days seem so close I could reach out and touch them. That’s the reason I wanted to become a musician and bought my first guitar when I was about 13. Music does something to my brain that after all these years I still struggle to explain to those who don’t get it. It’s as if it’s written into our souls.
What are some of your other songs/bands from that time period? Were you into the whole grunge thing when it happened? Personally speaking, Kurt Cobain was my Jesus for a couple of decades lol. I still love him and respect what Nirvana did, but I’ve certainly grown to see the flawed human beneath that shiny god-like exterior the world painted him as. I especially learned to empathize when I eventually became addicted to heroin, myself.
But yeah, I love almost anything early to mid ‘90s…4 Non Blondes, Dinosaur Jr, Alice In Chains, Soul Asylum, Bush, Crash Test Dummies (remember that ridiculous ‘Mmmmm mmmm’ song?! Lol). Good times, man.
