Just last week, while traveling to Turkey from London Luton Airport, I experienced something that left me deeply embarrassed. Out of a group of around 50 people, I was singled out by an airport officer solely because I was holding an Indian passport. They conducted a full background check on me right there. The whole experience was not only unsettling but also left me feeling humiliated and out of place.

I went to Shenzhen via HK. While returning from Shenzhen to Hong Kong- I was stopped at immigration checkpoint by HK police, because passport has Bengaluru written and their website which issues temporary tourist document - has Bangalore written on it. Despite explaining they held me in their office for good 10min. This is the level of information about India or respect for Indian passport they have.

The best part is that we still don't have that biometric or NFC based passport till now and the project is still ongoing. I am an Assistant Professor of a University and have seen students from Nepal and Bhutan carry NFC based passports or maybe biometric enabled passports. I renewed my passport and received the new one a few weeks back and its still the same to my disappointment. No more words to say. #disappointed

In my experience I've travelled 8 countries solo since 2022 but I've only had bad experiences at the airports in France, Belgium and Jordan, and everytime the same shit has happened to me (but nowhere in Asia) -They look at my passport (with a weird look) -Separates me from the line and tells me to wait (they check me at very last) -Asks thousands of questions again and again even having valid visas and return tickets and hostel bookings Kya ye harassment nhi hai? And when I was going to paris to attend a concert, I also got harrassed and at the Mumbai airport over my hostel booking they were literally refusing to issue my boarding pass and telling me to first book a HOTEL and then they'll issue my boarding pass they were airline staff but were behaving like immigration officials (eventually I'd to book a hotel but later I cancelled my hotel booking) The reality is too different than what they show you on tv

The best part is that we still don't have that biometric or NFC based passport till now and the project is still ongoing. I am an Assistant Professor of a University and have seen students from Nepal and Bhutan carry NFC based passports or maybe biometric enabled passports. I renewed my passport and received the new one a few weeks back and its still the same to my disappointment. No more words to say. #disappointed

I’m OCI, another weird fact, most of the countries allow dual citizenship, but not India. Hopefully that will change and OCI holders will get Indian citizenship soon. In my experience I've travelled 8 countries solo since 2022 but I've only had bad experiences at the airports in France, Belgium and Jordan, and everytime the same shit has happened to me (but nowhere in Asia)
-They look at my passport (with a weird look)
-Separates me from the line and tells me to wait (they check me at very last)
-Asks thousands of questions again and again even having valid visas and return tickets and hostel bookings

And when I was going to paris to attend a concert, I also got harrassed and at the Mumbai airport over my hostel booking they were literally refusing to issue my boarding pass and telling me to first book a HOTEL and then they'll issue my boarding pass they were airline staff but were behaving like immigration officials (eventually I'd to book a hotel but later I cancelled my hotel booking)
The reality is too different than what they show you on tv
