    "I didn't need to worry about keys, chords, melody if I had that emotion that brought tears and laughter to people's hearts."
    - Ornette Coleman

    Ornette encompassed everything in his playing, free, straight, swing, blues. No division for him. Like a bird, the air is all the same for flying

    Ornette used no chordal instruments because he wanted to be free of chord progressions. He believed that a jazz musician should be able to choose any direction without the prison of chord progressions. A great innovator, who was way ahead of his time.

    He continues to sound great. Is there a more consistent musician in all of jazz? He's been doing this better than anybody else for over 50 years. A real hero. Bravo.

    There’s so much emotion in this performance. Beautiful expressions of texture and melody all around. Swing, Blues, classical, jazz and avant-garde all wrapped in abstract harmonic cloth.

    Ornette was way ahead of his time.Even now, there are individuals who have not accepted his innovations. This happens to all innovators. It happened to Parker, Miles Davis ,Dizzy Gillespie. In time,they were accepted

    Ornette's playing in his later years was much calmer and smoother, telling us how it is

    The first tune is "Turnaround", and not "Dancing in your head". the original recording of "Turnaround" can be found in the album "Tomorrow is the question"

    Charlie Haden suffered from hyperacusia, hence the acoustic barrier between him and the Drummer Denardo Coleman.

    • @emilianoturazzi
      @emilianoturazzi 5 лет назад +3

      for sure. actually he was one of the most important musicians of the past century.

    • @georgemcfetridge8310
      @georgemcfetridge8310 8 месяцев назад

      He wasn't the figure that the other two were as to his instrument. Coltrane got it: he called Ornette a great leader rather than a great player. Parallel to that is Schoenberg calling Cage an inventor rather than a composer.

    Not good fellowship on the stage. Haden forgets the 'turnaround' melody on its turnaround, Ornette 'teaches' it to him, then quotes 'If I loved you'. Denardo C sounds lost in space. This can happen in tonal, 'inside' music also, but the players there can coast, on attractive meter and chord changes to get thru. Not here.
