Some tips from the owner of the earlier batch with paddle shifter and polestar engineered software upgrade. With the polestar, it will blip the throttle on braking, hopefully you would miss the paddle shifter less. On hard brake to complete stop, you can feel and see on the screen that it downshift sequentially. Also at the bottom of the throttle, there is a button just like the Audi. After you floor it and press harder you will feel a click, if rpm allows it would downshift. Now sure if that helps at hill climb, but pretty handy for highway. Last but not least, if you got your hand on any SPA Volvo with paddle shifter, here's how to maintain it in manual mode (which most reviewers said impossible). 1) put in B mode, 2) use the gear selector to make the first shift (left/right, yes this is counter intuitive), 3) then you can use the paddle shifter. If skip step 2 and use paddle shifter to shift directly, it will jump back to auto after 10-15 seconds. Anyway the manual still auto upshift at redline. Good drive, as always.

Of course bro...an all wheel drive here is a hybrid car which powers the rear wheels only via electric, therefore it doesn't react the same as a true awd system which has torsen or even haldex differential configuration in the audi quattro~ for me i could say this is just a marketing gimmick by volvo to compensate the lack of understeer from front wheel drive limitation in terms of performance and driving dynamics per say~ not too belittle this volvo, but the audi, bmw and mercs in the same segment category are far better driven car than this particular midsize luxury car, in terms of comfort this maybe a deal but not necessarily better than the rest though in overall checklist~
Actually the car has a sequential shift, put the gearlever in "B"mode then right-left changes up-down. Not a perfect substitute for paddles but at least it is possible. And sure the 180 limitation is a "self-inflicted handicap". IMMHO at least. I liked the review, good uphill attitude for this class.
I own a volvo S80. In fact i never consider volvo car. I conveniently took over from my sister. But alas , its the most comfortable car i hv driven. Also appreciate the safety . But its not a drivers car. Steering and suspension tune for comfort and relax drive. The max i do is 180 kph for N S highway even its able to max above 200. I feel its the safest speed in malaysia.
HI Uncle. I am sure I might not be the first one to say it. But I think you might want to re do the test with your batteirs full before the climb start. They make a huge difference especiially becuase of the instant torque from the electric drive. You should actually save the battery with the battery lock function so that the car knows to not use the battery until you get to the bottom of the hill. I might be completly wrong. But from my point of view it looked like the Battery was almost emptly
all volvo plug in hybrid models have isg motors. So even if the battery is drained prior to driving, the awd system works as the ice will drive the electric motors directly. The price is worse fuel economy. Unlike BMW and Audi hybrids, which do not have isg motors, Volvo won't have a performance decline as battery is drained.
BMW 330i is still good choice. Because BMW 330i is one of performance car. Come with safety features, interior looks stylish. But both BMW 330i and Volvo S60 are better choice but depending on their choices.

Uncle...i suggest you use a timer for your uphill and downhill trips....so we can know the estimated time taken for each car....regardless of the traffic
Electric mode has only rear wheels working. Hybrid has all 4 working, depending on some condirions. Engine drives the front wheels, hybrid motors drive the rear wheels.

@@jswong8200 the stock ecu has a observable throttle response. If you get the polestar optimization from volvo, the issue is gone. The factory setting is for comfort family scenarios

believe it's ps4 vol. There are two models for s60 t8. One is with acoustic foam, one without. SPA volvos are in general mediocre at noise controlling.

And today (9/3/21), he release the video on the Perodua Ativa where he knows that it could shift using the gear level. Kinda unfair as for that, he could keep it in its power band while this he lets is out of the power band then says feels like not as quick.
I look, I see this Volvo compared to the X5, the X5 400hp snap out of corners better, accelerates faster. X5 seems more fun, despite the height. X5 also family car 😂
180km/h is really not satisfying enough in a big car like that. Imagine driving on an empty karak highway and you wanna go fast, you'll end up being stuck at 180km/h and see some ghost vw beetle pass by you lol
@@YSKhongDriving yeah no choice of gears to limit the speed... I think you are faster without the limitation of gears 🤔😏 but it's not as consistent and confident a drive as you have to constantly control the accelerator pedal and brake to balance it out...
Disappointed with the very low speed limited vmax of 180km/h and also the very weak dynamic handling of the car. The front end just scream understeers on the first yank of the steering wheel. I'll pick a German car any day over this one. I mean my 220HP Audi Q5 (only half the power of this volvo) can do 200km/h LOL!
It felt ok in terms of power. Not breathtaking, but maybe you are right, a 2.5 or a 3.0 would have made it awesome. Ah but then this is a family car, not a sportscar. So as far as family cars go, it meets the requirements.
Luckily I bought mine at year 2020 and polestar version ,love it so much and it not locked at 180

S80 feel so safe at lower speed that I feel the car isn't moving at all if you drive on the expressway at 110km/HR 😂

isnt the manual mode similar to early model Daimler-Chrysler products? where you tip the shifter left and right for down and up shifts
the ones sold before nov 2020 still have paddle shifters, T8 R-design badge, polestar software and no speed limit cap.

I think tt's partly due to the weight and perhaps the power management system.It was not meant for fast discharge, more for longer usage

The motor can rev higher than the engine, and do it faster too. The total energy is always less than the individual power of each.
Nowadays, Volvo is no longer a uncle car, all its cars look stunning. 400HP just for rm300k, how could this possible for other brand!

I believe the engine is not too bad. Restricting the speed to 180, and the lack of paddle shifters is worse.
