- Not from a Chicago airing, but still interesting - here's a record offer commercial for the compilation Music Machine from K-tel (catalogue number TU 2560), with what looks like Robby the Robot of "Forbidden Planet" and Lost in Space fame playing the title character for this ad.
Features snippets of such hits from the late 1976 - mid-1977 period as "Blinded by the Light" by Manfred Mann's Earth Band, "I Just Want to Be Your Everything" by Andy Gibb, "Keep It Comin' Love" by KC and The Sunshine Band, "Dancing Queen" by ABBA, and "Do You Wanna Make Love" by Peter McCann.
Also featured are "Feels Like the First Time" by Foreigner, "Beth" by KISS, "Car Wash" by Rose Royce, "Hot Line" by The Sylvers, and "Got to Give It Up" by Marvin Gaye.
Available at Eckerd Drugs, Redford Stores, Disco Sky City, S.H. Kress, Woolworth, Sears, Roses, and Record Bar - oh, and did we mention Eckerd Drugs? ;-)

This aired on local Chattanooga, Tennessee TV the first week of December 1977.
About The Museum of Classic Chicago Television:
The Museum of Classic Chicago Television's primary mission is the preservation and display of off-air, early home videotape recordings (70s and early 80s, primarily) recorded off of any and all Chicago TV channels; footage which would likely be lost if not sought out and preserved digitally. Even though (mostly) short clips are displayed here, we preserve the entire broadcasts in our archives - the complete programs with breaks (or however much is present on the tape), for historical purposes. For information on how to help in our mission, to donate or lend tapes to be converted to DVD, and to view more of the 4,000+ (and counting) video clips available for viewing in our online archive, please visit us at:

A robot playing Peter McCann on a 10 megawatt stereo in a field of flowers. God I miss the 70s.
Quite possibly my favorite comment ever, anywhere.
Not to mention that's Robby the Robot, star of the 50's classic sci-fi film "Forbidden Planet." Apparently roles must have been tough by the 70s so he lowered himself to promoting K-Tel albums.
@@WinslowLeach1974 He seems to be enjoying his retirement, actually. He's blasting all of the late-70s' biggest hits!
I can still remember that this was the very first record album I ever bought! I got it at, I believe it was Camelot Music, at Stonestown Mall in San Francisco when I was still in high school. I was either still a Freshman or a Sophomore at that time in 1977. Those songs really bring back memories for me, especially "Beth" by Kiss.
Found this record at a local thrift store today with my friend. It now sits in my house :]
I remember seeing this commercial age 6. As a KISS fan, my heart skipped a beat when KISS was mentioned. My dad was sitting there reading his newspaper and looked up and saw part of the commercial and asked, "What is that thing?" (the robot). I replied, "That's the music machine!" like he was an idiot.
Learned about this because me and my friend found this vinyl in a thrift store today and man that cover sold us on getting it lol
First record I ever owned...1977, 5-6 years old. It was the Andy Gibb song I loved.
Man, ... I had this album back then, like, when it was just released. I was 12, bought it at a Grants Department store (if anyone remembers that chain). I only got it for side two. We lived in the middle of BF Kentucky, man. Whadda ya want for $5.99, kid?
I remember this commercial from when I was a kid
Those were the days. The world was still a messed up place but without the instant communication we have today where we know about everything that happens on the planet in real-time via the internet (social media, text, email, etc), things at least seemed better during this period. Oh how I wish we could have that kind of ignorance again...
I like how they referred to Manfred Mann's Earth Band as just "Manfred Mann", even though Chapter Three and the Earth Band were completely different from the original Manfred Mann band.
I just found this record at a thrift store for 50 cents.
Wow, they had to cycle through their film chain system quickly. I see they goofed on showing the Eckerd Drugs slide twice.
Or they wanted you to remember these records were the kind you'd find in drugstores.

Those were the days before IPods when compilations of popular music were on vinyl albums & 8-Track tapes.
And have goofy covers that made you do a double-take!
By the way, the founder of K-Tel, Philip Kives, just passed away at age 87.
Robby was only ever in 1 episiode of Lost in Space. That was when it was in Black N White during the first season.. The Lost in Space Robot is known as B-9 (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robot_B-9), though it's never mentioned in the series.. Both were designed by the same guy, Robert Kinoshita
Uh, twice, but who's counting?
@@Pygar2 ImDB says we're both wrong...it's 3, but who's counting?
@@robertklaers25 IMDB thinks Robby was in the "Uncle Thaddeus" episode...
@@Pygar2 Showed him in three.. the two part war of robots and Ghost in space.
Most of these stores today are no longer in business.
Obvious. We still have Sears, but I don't think they have a music section anymore.
Lol how many watts in this king size stage set lol ??????
