Amazing episode! Good thing this month’s changes didn’t affect the 950. I will probably do my own episode on this premium Express 950. This year on my channel will be lines 164 (EB) & 734 (NB). Other lines I will post here next year are 164 (WB), 734 (SB) and 794. I will also do Lines 155, 161, 165, & 169 before they all get affected by NextGen. This plan will turn a section of the 169 into a shuttle while the other half remains Local. Metro is eliminating various lines and most will be replaced by shuttles 🤦‍♂️

It’s a beautiful ride from San Pedro to El Monte. So grateful that 950 is on hold at the moment. Looking forward in seeing some new episodes from you.

I heard 950 would be affected on the third phase which is the same time where Silver Line officially becomes electrify. But let's hope they change their minds by adding a charging station in San Pedro. #950LIVES

Silver Streak will now be reduced to Foothill Transit local fare starting in the Summer. MTA is considering to do the same thing for the J Line by reducing the fare from $2.50 to $1.75. It is completely unknown if all MTA Express Lines like 460, 577, & 487 will be affected by the fare change. If it does, then Express Lines would resemble as "Local" as they would no longer be charging the Express portion. Line 577 would now be similar to OCTA Line 83 as Line 83 acts like an "Express" yet it is a local route.

It’s very odd that the MTA is doing away with the premium express fare. Quite possibly they are trying to get more people to ride the freeway lines.

Looks like these buses on the J Line and also systemwide won't be any longer because of the new BYD buses. Tbh, I call the new BYD buses an absurd as they are much smaller than the 45-Cs and also having fewer seats (38 compared to 47). The MTA should've at least converted the 45-Cs to all electric similar to Montebello Bus Lines did with their hybrid vehicles or ordered electric articulated buses for the J Line.
Also, according to CPTDB. The 45-Cs are now in process of the retirement. Unit 8100 and 30 others have been already retired as of late 2021 and it is still happening as of now. This is completely unfortunate as these were my favorite batch of buses in the 45-Cs series (8100-8400) especially with the destination signage compared to the newer 45-Cs (though at least I'm glad the newer ones are staying for now). I'm pretty sure the last batch of the older 45-Cs will be retired by the earliest late-2022 or the latest late-2023.
Also the none of the final batch of the NABI 60-BRT series (9500s) buses aren't retired yet, but unfortunately it is most likely happening in the coming weeks or days (most likely by spring, they will slowly being retired).
In conclusion, the MTA have been ordering more standard-sized buses while they are ordering less articulated buses (167 compared to 400) which I believe it is an absurd. Originally they were going to order up to 550 articulated buses, but nearly 300 of buses have been cancelled. With the older 45-Cs are on the way out, the MTA will sadly have buses that have much fewer seats compared the the 45-Cs. It'll lead more overcrowding.

It would appear that someone or a group of individuals in upper management or on the board/council are getting kickbacks from that contract. It doesn’t not make sense whatsoever in acquiring transit vehicles with less seats than its predecessors. What’s going on here? Yet, another reason why riders will lose every time.

A lot of local routes that Metro said it would consolidate are still being kept, feel like they lie to us about reconstructing the rapid services. The travel experience on the busiest corridors will not improve after all. The NextGen is just a plan that cut many existing services. I can certainly say that about 80% of existing riders would probably stick with Metro, but those who already stop using and fled Metro would not come back after all. In the long terms, bus ridership would continue to fall even the pandemic is over, while we could see an increase ridership on train once they expand the rail network. I bet that even Metro own employees don't use their own system on the daily basis.
