    After reading classics, i don't feel to read the modern books. I get lost in the words, the structure of sentences in classics. They sound so rhythmic and musical. And also i don't wish the classic book i am reading should get over. When Jane Eyre finished her story, i literally yearned for her to continue telling about the rest of the life. That enchanting i find classics. Classics are written that vivid, vibrant and that much organic. You feel you are taken to that age. You feel you are witnessing the story are arm's length. Some paragraphs i read twice or thrice, just to devour the beauty of the language. 😃

    These are great tips, Helly!
    But I don’t think that reading classics defines a reader. If a person doesn’t like reading classics, he’d be as much of a reader as a person who reads classics.
    This isn’t a hate comment btw. I love your videos!

    I finished wuthering heights in 2month. That was my 1st classic book and I'm telling you all I literally had to keep a pocket dictionary with me while reading it and used it almost for every pages. But it was fun tho. Where ever I go I didn't only carry the book but also the dictionary. 🤣

    For some reason I prefer the slightly archaic and rich language of classics. I actually found Wuthering Heights not at all difficult and I understood most of the plot on my first read without having any prior information regarding the same. Only difficulty I faced was the Yorkshire dialect of Joseph, which I was able to grasp by reading notes on the text included in my edition.
    My advice would be to start with lighter classics esp the ones written for children and progress gradually towards longer and denser books. And try to get editions with annotations as this will help to provide contexts of outdated references.

    • @anu3933
      @anu3933 4 года назад +1

      Yes, I agree, understanding Joseph's dialect was the trouble that I faced. I feel like when you start reading any book, with the first two or three chapters you will get comfortable with the language, until then just keep reading.

    I first read the book and then watch movie .I mean I like imagining characters,places, incidents and after that I watch movies because after that we find movies more relatable and seeing how correctly we have imagined. And also if I watch movie first it kinda gets bore to read cz we already know what is next.😊ps you are the best and a genuine reader😊

  • @anupamduttaroy7456
    @anupamduttaroy7456 3 года назад +5

    I hate watching the movie before I read the book. It sets incorrect expectations.
    A book inspires to create the plots, scenes, characters inside your brain. The movie controls these if you watch it first.

    I really liked the idea of the Modern Classic. People often forget about the existence of the modern era. Also, maybe you had a flickering filter on, it was a tad bit distracting. I also love reading the classics. I plan to read The Tenant of the Windfell hall in some days. Great Video!

    Watching the movie and then coming to the book is not something that works for me and perhaps for many others. Personally speaking, I am someone who watches a movie without watching its trailer and I want a movie or a book to surprise me, so by knowing the story and the character before hand I lose interest. For such readers I would suggest start with the book , but when you can't wrap your head around something go to that particular chapter summary online, then re-read it. So this will help you moving and the surprise of the story is not lost.

  • @futurez12
    @futurez12 4 года назад

    For me, if it's a book I don't know the story of, watching a movie of it beforehand would just spoil it. Obviously if you can't understand it at all then it would be OK, but if I watch a movie I won't read the book. I need the excitement of finding out what happens. Often it's not even excitement, it's just a need to find out how it all pans out. I'm currently reading Pride & Prejudice, not really enjoying it so far, but because I don't know how it turns out, I know I'll complete it.
    I don't think I'll ever read a book if I already know the story. I even avoid the basic plot description on the back cover for the most part.

    i had just begun reading A Tale of Two Cities by Charles Dickens. so far its very discriptive and i'm not so far in but i feel like the words are very old english and i sometimes cant understand it because english is not my native language. but i feel like if i need to search for all words i would be long next year before i finished the book so i just read further. resuls is that it can be very slow because i'm trying to figure out what those words mean but the jest of it i can understand and something i do with all of my books is to not stop at a chapter but stop at a givin time to stop. so its like one hour reading or two hours of reading and then i finish the last paragraph so i know where i am. i try to remember where i stopped and how it looks and remember the last chapter. i feel like every classic i read has long and discriptive language in it and is kine of slow paced but i do love classics because i feel like i'm traveling back through time. A Tale of Two Cities is suposed to be the England and french revolution but i'm at the beginning. i feel like i am realy back in the ages. biggest classic i read was Moby Dick and i had a rough time when reading that book. damn, that book took me for ages. i'm not scared to read classics and just like you said, every booklover should read classics at least one every year. i think five classics a year is a bit out of the question though. but one in a year is good enough for me. or two maybe. depend on the mood i'm in. Charles Dickens Writing Style is definitely not for beginner readers of classic and reading in general.

    The myth that Victorian classics are replete with superfluous details can be easily debunked. Pure-Victorian classics especially those written in late 18th century and early 19th century, especially books of Walter Scott, are way more verbose and inflated than Victorian classics including those written by Dickens, DESPITE the fact that they, unlike Victorian novels, were not serialized but were published in 3-4 volumes that came out at the same time.

    • @zaintariq44
      @zaintariq44 5 лет назад

      The actual reason why Victorian authors go to great lengths to describe a scene is because T. V had not been invented at that time, so people were looking for blow by blow descriptions.

    • @zaintariq44
      @zaintariq44 5 лет назад

      Another fact. Dickens' earlier novels were, admittedly, a bit drawn out but his later novels were way more succinct and incisive( though the length was almost the same). Read random pages from Pickwick Papers and then Great Expectations( you could even read the first sentences only) and you'll get my point
