    Not sure how anyone could not like this video, that was some superb flying, that little slip at the end was a nice little move

    Great aeroplane the PA-24. I usto fly one a lot and I also us to run into famed ferry pilot Max Conrad who knew PA-24,s backwards.
    Max had a great deal of long distance flying time in the PA-24. A brilliant pilot with 55,000 hours Max us to ferry for Piper all around the world. One no-stop flight Max made from the US to Europe 55 hours flying no stop. Max did many flight in the PA24 to Australia and South Africa. The PA 24 was a very versatile aircraft. It could operate on 600 yd agriculture strips , and the airframe was very reliable. I think probably the best single engine 4 seat light aircraft ever built.

    I’m not going to lie, I was “clinched” at the sight of those high tension lines. I gasped at how quickly the gear went up and the undulating runway… good grief there were power lines at the other end too. I think I’m spoiled with a less challenging strip.

    Nice flying! Since I was a kid my dad had a 1958 PA-24-250, for 40+ years. Amazing plane, got to fly from the co-pilot seat on occasion, fun and responsive.

    My best Friend had one. He gave me lots of stick time on it. Our longest trip was to Osh Kosh. A speedy, comfortable flier. Miss those days and John.

    That sideslip. Perfection.

    • @tomheringer2047

      Actually it is a forward slip. In this case it is right rudder and left aileron with the pilot looking out their left side window and maintaining the extended centerline of the landing runway. A side slip is what we do on every crosswind landing. To align the aircraft's longitudinal axis with the runway centerline prior to touchdown, you apply downwind rudder to align the nose and apply just enough aileron into the wind to prevent any sideward drift. As the airspeed bleeds off throughout the flare, both rudder and aileron deflection angles must be increased proportionally to assure that the longitudinal axis and centerline remain parallel.

    I love the Comanche! Hard to improve on. Looks just as modern as the Arrow with better performance. Sheila Scott set 90 world records with hers!

    Do you really think we would rather hear the music rather than the airplane? Ruins an otherwise nice video.

    I always thought of the Comanche as another plane, but as I look at it more I think it's an underrated plane.

    that is some really controlled flying ;) , beautiful sideslip on the landing there!

    • @flyurway
      @flyurway 6 лет назад

      Ironically, a common reason for a forward slip is to bleed speed/ altitude quickly usually because you're coming in too high and fast! Still looked cool though.

    • @AN-jz3px
      @AN-jz3px 6 лет назад +1

      I mean the powerlines on short final didn't have much to do with that or anything....

    How are the wing spars holding up on those old Comanches? I haven't heard of a single problem, in fact, I've heard they were over engineered? I've been thinking about trying to track down one of those old 8 cylinder 400 horsepower ones. They sound like a lot of fun. Not if the wing might snap off though. Then it wouldn't be fun at all.

      Comanches came with factory applied corrosion protection. No bare aluminum inside the wing if I recall. The 400s are awesome. There’s a couple of them at Oshkosh each year. I think there are less than 100 still in existence.
