When we look around, most successful brands have names that are completely irrelevant to their businesses: Starbucks, Uber,.......Amazon (LOL). I am a big believer that YOU dictates what the brand name stands for. Also, thanks for sharing the integration plugin NS FBA. I needed something like that for my e-commerce website. However, it doesn't show up in the plugin list. A similar plugin is called 'Amazing fulfilment integration for woocommerce'. Thanks again!

Here's what I did for my logo. I'm an artist my self but I have no knowledge of software designers use such as photoshop, indesign etc. So I ended up making a sketch and coloring it. I sent it to a freelancer online and had a video conference with him to discuss some additional details. He took my design and made some minor changes to it which I ended up being very happy with.

Tam I would get that so that youu have it. Otherwise someone else might get your domain name and then they will want a lot of money for it. Youu may want to build a website on it later. The domain also allows you to create your business email off of it (tam@brand .com) which you may also want later.

Would letting the product opportunity decide the brand and product line or do you start defining what you are interested in and start there. We are really interested in sports and fitness and are keen to follow that road but as we dig we are finding few kw opportunities and thought maybe we should be going away from this niche
Chris great question, this is where Passion Vs Data comes up. I recommend going with a fanciful brand name, this keeps you open to any niche going forward. (a made up name not descriptive of any specific niche). These are also unique and therefore easier to trademark. Then focus on data-driven research for the first product. If nothing else, the first product will teach you the full process, but following the data gives you the best chance of success out the gate. From there, armed with that knowledge, you can more confidently vet the passion-driven niches you are monitoring. New video on brand names coming out Tuesday 8 Feb, it follows a similar track to this one but with a few new tools and steps, most of which are free/low cost.

Hi Dan, another highly informative video. I have already checked the brand name with USPTO and Canadian Trademarks Base, got the .com and .ca domains and got the logo made. I have not set up the Amazon sellers account yet. I want to register the trademark with USPTO but I am not sure if I can do it personally online since I am Canadian. I thought you might have a better suggestion to do it from outside US. Also, some people were talking about after the USPTO application it would be possible to go to Amazon Brand registry and use their IP Accelerator program with registry number issued for pending trademark application.

Another great video Dan! I had no idea Shopify stores integrate with Amazon and we can have our orders fulfilled by AMZ! Question for you: Would there be any benefit in using our Shopify product link in advertisements? So using our store to drive sales but have AMZ continue to fulfill our orders. Therefore we create a brand on our own, but since we have our products stored on AMZ we will only have to pay for fulfillment fees, but not the "sales" via Amazon fee. I hope this wasn't confusing but would love to hear your feedback if this makes sense or not really. Thanks!
Johnny makes sense 100%, you save 15% of the referral fee and that could essentially soak up a ton of external ad spend so that is a huge benefit. Additionally, anyone who buys on your store will provide email, so you retain the audience, not Amazon and that's huge for later product launches and also optimizing audiences for ad targeting in the future :)
Hello. And thank you for shering this video. I have a name that I have already made a design for my packaging for my products. That name on the trademark search gives registered dozens of the same names. Some are alive, while many are dead. Can it pass anyway because if there are already so many, it can be mine there too, right? That my product name has a specific design and different from others.
Hi Dan. What a great video - all in one. Thanks. I chose a fancy brand name (say XYZZ), not married to any category. Instead I'll be a "general store". So my logo will have brand name XYZZ. As for the slogan, can I have XYZZ-Slogan-1 for Product 1, and XYZZ-Slogan-2 for Product 2? Or may be I should not use any slogan? Like Nike selling shoes and shirts. Thanks, Sushil.
Hey Sushil, good question, that all sounds good. You can use any slogan just be careful it's not like a protected tagline. The main wordmark being on the products will give you brand registry and protection benefits. Persoanlly, I would only use the slogan if it adds a lot of value, customers prefer the branding to be less prominent in most cases.

Thanks Dan, if I'm selling around 100 verities of clothes in the Shopify store and not planning to sell on Amazon, what are the recommended barcodes for these verities to sell worldwide? if UPS should we buy them from UPS company or eBay?
For the barcodes, you can then use GTINs, they are called EANs in Europe or UPCs in North America, get them from GS1 for guaranteed unique codes or other sites where they will be cheaper but less "legit" but they will work. For this, I would not do GSI codes, too expensive
Hi Dan. I have a big concern. I know you can not brand registry from the beggining , so it last awhile to get aproval from trademark registar. I would like to know if it is possible to add images in the product description , as well as a video in the image listing .I heard you are not allowed to do that , unless you are brand registered .This is worrying me , as my main competitors are all brand registered , and i am worried i can not have a good results , selling my product without nice images in the description , as a proper shop , during the whole trademark aproval time . Theseus some features are reserved for brand registry but there's no way around the timing of trademarks so the earlier the better. That said, I have heard that now video can be added even if you don't have brand registry but I need to look more into this.

Question for you: Would there be any benefit in using our Shopify product link in advertisements? So using our store to drive sales but have AMZ continue to fulfill our orders. Therefore we create a brand on our own, but since we have our products stored on AMZ we will only have to pay for fulfillment fees, but not the "sales" via Amazon fee. I hope this wasn't confusing but would love to hear your feedback if this makes sense or not really. Thanks!
Johnny makes sense 100%, you save 15% of the referral fee and that could essentially soak up a ton of external ad spend so that is a huge benefit.
Additionally, anyone who buys on your store will provide email, so you retain the audience, not Amazon and that's huge for later product launches and also optimizing audiences for ad targeting in the future :)

That name on the trademark search gives registered dozens of the same names. Some are alive, while many are dead. Can it pass anyway because if there are already so many, it can be mine there too, right? That my product name has a specific design and different from others.

I chose a fancy brand name (say XYZZ), not married to any category. Instead I'll be a "general store".
So my logo will have brand name XYZZ. As for the slogan, can I have XYZZ-Slogan-1 for Product 1, and XYZZ-Slogan-2 for Product 2?
Or may be I should not use any slogan? Like Nike selling shoes and shirts.

Hey Sushil, good question, that all sounds good.
You can use any slogan just be careful it's not like a protected tagline. The main wordmark being on the products will give you brand registry and protection benefits. Persoanlly, I would only use the slogan if it adds a lot of value, customers prefer the branding to be less prominent in most cases.

Thanks Dan, if I'm selling around 100 verities of clothes in the Shopify store and not planning to sell on Amazon, what are the recommended barcodes for these verities to sell worldwide? if UPS should we buy them from UPS company or eBay?
For the barcodes, you can then use GTINs, they are called EANs in Europe or UPCs in North America, get them from GS1 for guaranteed unique codes or other sites where they will be cheaper but less "legit" but they will work. For this, I would not do GSI codes, too expensive
Hi Dan. I have a big concern. I know you can not brand registry from the beggining , so it last awhile to get aproval from trademark registar. I would like to know if it is possible to add images in the product description , as well as a video in the image listing .I heard you are not allowed to do that , unless you are brand registered .This is worrying me , as my main competitors are all brand registered , and i am worried i can not have a good results , selling my product without nice images in the description , as a proper shop , during the whole trademark aproval time . Theseus some features are reserved for brand registry but there's no way around the timing of trademarks so the earlier the better.
That said, I have heard that now video can be added even if you don't have brand registry but I need to look more into this.
