    David, the main circuit breaker switch should have been switched off PRIOR to dealing with wires. I speak as having survived a right handed contact with a "live" 220 volt 50 amp wire (via a wet sponge). My hand was jolted back by the contact and hurt for hours. Had it been my left hand with the wet sponge, I might not have been writing this. "Drive to survive." :-)

      A lot of electricians work in live panels, myself included, if it's possible we'll deaden the panel, but in a case where for some reason the panel must remain live you just have to work with it and be very careful to not touch anything you shouldn't, I'm not saying it's safe if you're a home owner absolutely deaden the panel and leave working with live panels to the professionals

      @@JS-df8qm Yes, my master electrician would work with live wires with 15 amp circuits. I never would (e.g., a wall plug socket). One major electrical jolt for me was sufficient to leave major electrical work to my electrician. To quote the "Magnum Force" repeated movie line, "A man's got to know his limitations." :-)

      @@JS-df8qm this is a home, there is absolutely nothing critical. Even in hospitals and other facilities where we can't shut off power; We plan shutdowns or have people working in hot suits.

    That cutting around the panel is the best tip

      Just be careful it's electricity if you've never done it you should be supervised

    Dear god, please tell me you weren’t futzing with live wires while doing this. I see no indication that the main power supply was turned off. Someone who doesn’t know any better is gonna try this and electrocute themselves and/or cause a fire. Safety first-turn off the main power supply FFS.

      I’m inclined to report this video for promoting doing something dangerous. If you didn’t cut the power while changing the circuit breaker, you need to take this down and do it right. If you did cut the power, you need to add captions in big red letters “DO NOT DO THIS WITH LIVE WIRES!!!” This is why you really should HIRE an electrician. Dumb DIYs get people killed. Circuit breakers are easy to swap out, but electricity is too dangerous for the average DIYer to mess with.

      If you're going to try this at home. Of course, shutting off the power is a good idea. My professional experience is that nobody does that. 😂 I've been in the trades for 20 years.
      This was more and entertainment troubleshooting type video than a tutorial.

      @@Mechanicallyincleyend Nevertheless, this is no different than any other DIY how to. You even hashtagged it #DIY so you bear the responsibility of handing out Darwin Awards™️. This is so irresponsible. READ THE COMMENTS of all the sane people remarking on your electrical hazards. There is a main power breaker that cuts power to the box. How hard would it have been to cut the main and wear gloves? You need to take this video down, especially because it is a short and people are less inclined to read the comments. “In my professional experience”?🫨 This is not what a professional would do. Any professional trade guild would send you packing. This would be like doing asbestos abatement without PPE or filling propane tanks with a lit cigarette hanging out of your mouth. It’s a dumb way to die.

      @Deecember16 yea maybe the #diy was the wrong choice. But I don't think anyone actually would shut down the main to change a single breaker 🤣. I've been doing this 20 years though maybe I've developed some bad habits.
      Unless we are swapping breakers around we are not pulling the meter. Alot of homes here don't even have main breakers to shut things down.

      @@Mechanicallyincleyend all of them have main breakers to shut things down...Even fuse panels have mains to pull...what are you talking about?..Utility will not put power to it if it doesn't have one it's a requirement before power is put on otherwise they pull the meter till it's up to utility standards.

    Bro please don't use the linemans to pop the breaker in. So much can go wrong with one slip. Just use your hands

    • @Deecember16
      @Deecember16 Год назад +1

      I’m not sure that he turned off the main power while doing this. Using lineman’s to pop in the breaker was the least problematic part.

  • @davidm1996

    why would you open up a live panel. Not identify any of the live parts. Put this as a troubleshooting video for a common problem so its likely to be searched. Not only are you likely to die, your showing other people how to die
