    And to think it was only a year ago you were building 3d printed 5 inch gauge rolling stock, now you're on a full blown brake van.

    I would recommend painting the vertical handrails before putting them back on to protect them and the timber from corrosion. We have found in taking wagons apart that rust can affect timber over time.

      All the handrails are currently off the brake van as we speak and waiting to be sand blasted, primed and painted 👍🙂

      Yeh i thought I’d try something different, glad you noticed! It means as I progress I can swap clips in and out of it too

    Ollie to help reduce paint runs, less is more on your brush, also a brush will find all the indentations which a paint roller misses, other than that starting to take shape now 👌

      Yeh I may be a bit keen to slap it all on, won’t apply it so heavy next time!

    It will go quicker if you use a 3in or 4in brush!

    You say the gloss coat is Flint grey? Are you certain thats correct for a departmental brake van? Flit grey was used on the grey upper band on Triple grey railfreight locos. Departmental grey BR used for ‘dutch’ was a lot darker.

    • @WardleRestorations
      @WardleRestorations  2 года назад +1

      It’s a lot darker in person, been very difficult to find the correct grey 😂

    Its usual to start painting from the top down so that any drips or splashes don't ruin the areas that you've already painted. I would have done the inside of the roof first and then worked my way down the posts, etc. As you didn't treat the underside of the running boards or the inside of the door panels with preservative, they might not last very long. I would also have painted the underside of the running boards to help protect them from water and muck splashing up from the track. That would have been easier to do before you bolted them on.

    • @WardleRestorations
      @WardleRestorations  2 года назад

      Insides of the door panels were taken off and treated as recommended by someone else, running boards coming off again soon as I need to sand blast the chassis, the undersides will get painted then! Hope that clears that up🙂👍

      @@WardleRestorations sand blasting the entire brake van chassis? Oh my god - and here was me moaning about the cost of brass for a traction engine build lol

      We have our own sand blaster so not really going to cost much at all!

    One has to be careful about the type of paint one uses. It's easy to get it wrong. Take it slow, and hopefully the issue of heat bubbles will be resolved.

    Are you sure that paint is compatible with that wood preservative you are using. Hence the bubbles ?
