Cuando el pianista Dave Grusin decidió fundar su propia compañía discográfica, en 1977, dio a luz a lo que pronto se convirtió en una de las marcas más exitosas y bien considerado en el jazz contemporáneo. GRP All-Stars Live from the Record Plant características Grusin y varios de los artistas más conocidos del sello - incluyendo guitarrista Lee Ritenour, trompetista Larry Williams , vocalista y Diane Schuur - realizar un set en vivo en el famoso Studio de Los Angeles Record Plant de grabación en 1985. Abraham Laboriel is the man on Bass and my favorite Bass player!
I bought the GRP live session album as a fragile teen in the mid-80's. What really IMHO makes this a serious fusion album, is the incredible groove, set by Abe Laboriel & Carlos Vega. Of course, there's a variety of great musicians, but these two guys do bring this session to the next level. :)

Carlos didn't just have great feel but he had an innate ability to place hits with his bass drum and toms within the music to enhance, not distract from it or the groove. His taste and musicianship was peerless.

Yes. One of the best drummers ever, such good taste!... Even me, being from Portugal, I had the privilege of seeing him live in concert with James Taylor, in Lisbon, 1992. What a shame that he left us so soon...

Ahh, the late great Dave Valentin! i have so many of his CDs, and some vinyl. I may have spent 100+ hours listening to him, wish he lived forever!
Wow, just had my 1st listen of this.. What a Jazz Classic.. Regardless of genre, be it smooth, Latin or Fusion.. Looks like these guys were able to break the mold.. At least a bit. The music created in this recording, because the players are so sophisticated.. But yet nobody seems to try to steal the show.. Totally unselfish, and motivated to the beauty of the overall sound. So much more musically enjoyable than many modern smooth band bus riders.
When the technique and the virtuosity were at the service of the music ..... the real one ..... and when the dynamics and the beautiful sound in the recordings still existed .... Good times ..

The whole concert is awesome, but the performance of “Oasis” is mindblowing! What a track. What a marvellous performance by these wonderful musicians. I have the DVD, and I cherish it. ❤️

Nem sei quantas vezes assisti êsse icônico show em L.A. O adjetivo que consigo dar é magnífico; porém a interpretação de Diane Schurr para Love Dance é irretocável, de nos fazer agradecer não sermos surdos, é puro alimento a nossa alma. Essa turma de músicos reunidos sob a GRP de Grusin & Rosen foi e será sempre única. Gratidão imensa.

the laser disc was avail with 3 different openings as well as different tracks, I owned all but this one...thanks for posting..wish I could find even one disc now
Jup one of the best positive creative live perfomance ever recorded. Even sad songs was playing with such positive note. I can't say today there is no so talented musician any more, but today barely you can hear so creative and enjoyable music, specially in main stream, which is sad.

Now I know where L M got his ideas from. He's got a film similar to this one. Vi~a Del Mar 1994. Also Carlos Vega (drums) and Abraham Laboriel (Bass) were called in to record the Romance album. High Quality musicians.

Sadly, there is no radio station playing Smooth Jazz, in our area. This is my vacation music.
It took me a minute to figure out that the timestamps are really song duration times.
