The beat is like if you were floating in space with nothing and you can’t die so your left to just float forever or if you couldn’t drown and was deep in the ocean just sinking slowly until you hit the bottom and it’s pitch black but you can still feel the pressure and temperature but your invincible to it.
I actually am a huge fan of boards of canada. Which is the back ground music of this song. I use to listen to it so much. When i first immigrated to US, my parents got direct tv. Xm chill was one of their music channels. This is one of the songs they played in early 2000s and i searched them up on napster and limewire. Downloaded all their songs on my ipod which i still have and listen to. This song makes a nostalgic song 10x better.
2:40 from Genius Lyrics: "Ruby is describing how a girl called him, but he couldn’t answer the phone because he had hung himself in a hallway. The term “toll-free” comes from toll phones. When you’d call someone you could have the receiver of the call pay for the phone call instead of you doing it. Calling toll free (or free of charge) was doing someone a courtesy, so Ruby feels he’s doing himself and everyone else a favor by killing himself"
this is the full poem: Gray/Grey (Bonus Album Only Track) Lyrics [Verse: Ruby da Cherry] I am the shipwreck with its scattered and soaked wood littering the ocean like a nest of roaches The water smothers me patiently, and it waits to feel my body on the ocean floor I am the captain I stand alone with my ship, never leaving its side, for tonight I sleep in a shark's stomach The tears and rain both hit my face, as I lay on the deck and wait to drown I am the thunder, and I am the storm Hear me roar as I deafen all I conduct my orchestra as loud as possible and conclude with a violent smash I am washing the splinters from within my heart, and I scream as it pumps Let my lungs fill with water as the broken bathtub leaks
Went to their concert back in 2016 in Dallas, they had videos of churches on fire, the video of 9/11 playing behind them while they performed. It was very eerie but really fit the mood. They have evolved alot as artists since then.
When he's talking about looking into his eyes and seeing static he's talking about how you can see how he's dead inside by the look in his eyes there's nothing there just like static on a television
Everything you just said about this song is true. And that's how alot of us felt. I come from a troubled life, filled with violence, drugs and miserable feelings. I din't want nothing for myself and I didn't care about anyone. Not even myself. I was a bad human being and I'll probably pay for that in the afterlife. Alot of us have moved on from these horrible feelings and way of living. But this was/is theraphy for me today. It makes me remember all the anger that came from me feeling, well not worth of anything. I wanted to die, but I didn't have the balls to end it myself so i choose drugs. Luckily I'm sober now almost 3 years and have a beautiful little daughter to live for. Life is good. But I'll never forget where I came from and it's brutal - Just like this song.
2:39 "Phone rang twice, but I missed both calls I was hanging in the hall, toll-free" The phone rings, but we're unable to pick up cuz we're to busy dying, without having to pay charge Hard to explain to normal ppl
Love your videos Tom and I love this song so much. It’s funny, I used to hate the ringing phones mid song, but it’s grown on me. Just like any $b content, if I don’t like it at first, I probably eventually will. (Although I have always liked this song)
Thanks for your reaction. I really loved this song. But, have you reacted to "I hung myself for a persona" or like "o' lord I have my doubts". If so there's also New pfp and nicotine patches. But, anyways I appreciate someone who analyzes music in anyway haha
Music is math is easily one of their best samples. Such a simple but incredible beat.
It absolutely shakes me to my core. There is something so sinister about it I can’t explain.
The beat is like if you were floating in space with nothing and you can’t die so your left to just float forever or if you couldn’t drown and was deep in the ocean just sinking slowly until you hit the bottom and it’s pitch black but you can still feel the pressure and temperature but your invincible to it.
@@indianboySGM it gives me chills every time I listen to it.
I think their Com Truise samples are better
That's why BOC is just the best
one of their best songs imo
def one of the best
That's just objectively true

The best song IMO
Told her dial-up 666 if she need to get a hold of me
And hopefully, she'll give me a call when she is home and free and lonely.
Fave line on this song
Real

The thought of suicide is genuinely terrifying.

Classic by the boy$!!
I’m still surprised that reaction therapy hasn’t listened to these bangers
This song is so much deeper when you watch the video
He was literally hanging in the hall, as in suicide with a noose
When he's talking about looking into his eyes and seeing static he's talking about how you can see how he's dead inside by the look in his eyes there's nothing there just like static on a television

you should listen to Opal Ring by the boy$!
I think personally this song is the greatest and it’s a hidden gem that nobody talks about
2:39 "Phone rang twice, but I missed both calls
I was hanging in the hall, toll-free"
The phone rings, but we're unable to pick up cuz we're to busy dying, without having to pay charge
Hard to explain to normal ppl
The sample makes the entire song imo
2015 was the year for me where life was good wild but very destructive activities started.
