TBH, if I saw a photo like this, I would have deleted it at first place. But you actually made this photo live again. Unbelievable, such a magic skill!
This was honestly one of the best 'before and after' lightroom videos I have ever seen. It really shows how beautiful a 'crappy' image can become when you put a little bit of work into it. I love the haze and I really need to try that out.
+milkworm I am so happy to hear how much you enjoyed this lightroom dehaze tutorial. I loved this lightroom landscape edit, the end results were amazing I think. Thanks for your support and happy photo editing
I use Lightroom for many years. From lightroom 3 and so on. So I know a lot about it and learned a lot in those years. BUT! I wanted to look at your turorials because they are very clear and useful. And you know what? Watching these 42 movies, I learned a lot of things I didn't know! Very special and my pictures are more impresive now! So thank you for making them. Keep up the good work. :)!!
+Harry K I have been using Lightroom for a long time to and really it seems to be never ending. The more i practice the more i learn and the more features i find. Making this lightroom cc tutorial course has made me learn so much. Its awesome and I am so happy I have been able to help you.
You are amazing. I have learned so much about Lightroom watching your videos. I also send them to my colleague to teach her. She used to hate Lightroom. Now she loves it. Thank you
Ed- I wanted to comment on your LightroomTraining Module as a whole. I have just completed this series after starting it a couple months ago. I am a forty-something guy who startedshooting on film a little over twenty years ago. I've lived through the transition into digital photography, and while I was resistant this this for a long time, I eventually decided the benefits of shooting digital outweighed whatever authenticity I was trying to maintain. Similarly, I was even later to digital editing, as for a time I clung to the idea that I could maintain a sense of this authenticity by only using digital images as they were created by my camera. The idea of Lightroom (specifically it's reference to the darkroom), made me rethink this - and I started to think about digital processing being more like chemical processing in the darkroom. So I was fully converted - but with very little understanding of what digital processing was. I experimented around with a few things, with varying degrees of success, but eventually I found your training course. I have watched a video here and there as I could over the course of the last couple months, each time with Lightroom open in the background and flipping back and forth between you and the program; pausing you for a bit while trying what you were teaching and finding my way through it and then going back. As an old school photographer, there are still things that rub me the wrong way in digital imagery. When you “create” sun flares with the brush or “paint in” haze to create fog that wasn't really there, I can't get there yet. Maybe I never will. But it's not mine to judge or determine - it's to each of us to create the photos that we feel are reflective of us as photographers and artists. Just because something isn't right for me doesn't mean it isn't right for someone else. Maybe my evolution will bring me to that place at some point; I've certainly come a long way from exclusively film. Here's the most important thing - I can't thank you enough for this experience. Your videos have taught me more about Lightroom and digital image processing in general than I can tell you. I've seen negativity here and there from pedants and trolls in the comments sections, and my only advice is to ignore them. What you are doing is really valuable: I am a good and experienced photographer who now can do digital editing when I very much could not before. I am from the old school (a good and valuable school, but with lots of limitations) - and you have successfully brought me into the new. I am amazed at what I can do with my images now, and I don't think I would have gotten here without your series. Thank you so much Ed, and keep up the great work. I'll be watching. yourshot.nationalgeographic.com/photos/8213699/
Wow, wow, wow. Geoff i cannot thank you enough for these wonderful workers. You have completely touched me. thank you for this. I am just trying to make the best Lightroom tutorials I can and it is comments like this that keep me focussed and keep pushing me to make better content. I really cannot thank you enough for taking the time to write such a wonderful comment, honestly this means a huge deal to me so thank you. I will continue to to my best photography videos and I hope you continue to enjoy them.
+Sai Chandra Sekhar Dandu I love taking on challenges like this. It's fun and super rewarding. Although the was dark at first there was still a lot of information in the file for me to use. I hope you were able to learn some Lightroom techniques. Especially the dehaze slider.
That was amazing. I have been using Lightroom and Photoshop for years, but I have never seen fog added like that before. If I had not watched you do that, I would have been sure the picture was shot on a foggy autumn morning in August.
+mann hans thank you so much. Light room is amazingly powerful and I think we are always learning with it. I enjoying thinking out of the box to really push things. Sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't. All we can do is try.
A great way to add drama - I'd never have thought of layering the LR adjustment brush quite like this, effectively like a cut-down version of a PhotoShop brush. Neat - thanks!
+Lucas Pitcher So happy this was helpful. Lightroom CC is super powerful and can be used in many more ways than just using the sliders. Its super powerful once you dive into it.
Ed I really enjoy your videos. Your enthusiasm is contagious! I just wanted you to know that although I am new to your channel and to Light Room I have already learned so much simply by watching your tutorials. Thanks and I look forward to continuing learning.
+Cox The Fox Welcome to the wonderful world of lightroom, its an amazing place. So happy you enjoyed this Dehaze tutorial and the rest of my lightroom tutorials. Good luck and happy editing
omg. you are amazing. not only are you helping me understand lightroom and other stuff, but you are so funny and full of spirit. thanks for all the inspiration!!!! :]
+JorgiPie Critelli I am so happy you are finding my lightroom CC tutorial helpful and I am honoured that you are inspired. This is my aim but am never sure if I hit the mark. Thank you for your support. You rock.
Would you say at the end of the day it comes down to personal preference on how you the (editor) want the picture to look like? I enjoyed the tutorial.
hi Ed i have a PARTICULAR QUESTION, when you edit your photos, for example, for this photo, do you have already in mind what it will become or during the edit you change your ideas and the final result? thanks
You are right. Lightroom CC is super powerful, so much more than just a few sliders and an organising program. It is remarkable. Happy you are enjoying getting creative with Adobe Lightroom.
Thank you very much for this! It's so much easier to use Lightroom than to download brushes and edit in PS and then back to LR again. I'm going to try this now :)
There is no 'dehaze' in my LR. There is one under the 'effects', but it can't be used with the adjustment brush, only for the whole photo, and I don't like that. I want to apply it myself where I want it to be. Any suggestions?
+Phyuck You It is my pleasure and it so funny you cli me master. Hehehe i am just doing my best to create the best lightroom tutorials possible. Happy you liked my lightroom dehire tool tutorial.
Hi .GREAT tutorial. Ill try to edit some of my pics like this .Whats the pen you are using ? Seems to be much more easier than the magic mouse. Thanks !!!!!
Don't get me wrong here the tutorial is great , but gone are the days of actually shooting a scene like this in camera and getting it right , instead of shooting with no knowledge of what one is doing with the actual tool of creation ( the camera ) and relying on creating an image in post production from a terrible photo all this does is lower the standard of expertise in being able to create an honest image where the photographer waits for the conditions and gets it right with only a minimum of post work, now everyone thinks every great image is created like this. And for the record i use Lightroom and it is the best production tool on the market far better than Capture One except for the ability of Lightroom to be used for tethering.
+jazzysnaps thank you so much for your thoughtful comment and opinions on the photography and creative industries. I can see that you are strongly passionate about photography and we definitely share that love. Personally I learned to shoot on film so I came from the same place. That said, however, things have changed and the technology has changed. If you shoot film then this will still have to be caroused in camera but with the advancements of technology the latest dales open up huge doors. The skills are different as is the approach. For me this photos was captured perfectly and exposed just right for digital and the knowledge of post post production in mind (just like what shooting on file you must understand the developing and printing processes). The photo is exposed for the highlights as more details can be pulled from the shadows thus resulting in an evenly toned image with no blown out areas. This would not be possible on world with you some very cleaver and specific filters. For me this is art not just a photo. A photo comes from a camera and this can be art but this is more of a peeve of visual art that uses many different skills to create it. Both in camera and in lost production. All of these methods are valid in my opinion, it just comes down to taste. I hope these points make sense to you. And yes I agree. Lightroom is amazing.
I completely agree. I use Lightroom to actualize the scene as I saw it- adding things is fakery. The original image here is garbage, a throes-away shot.
jazzysnaps you're right. It is up to the eye of a good photographer to find and capture the a great scene. LR is just to portray a specific mood. Add character. But the real work is finding that perfect shot. 💯
I disagree. Editing is a part of the creative process. Not everyone sees photography as just capturing the scene as it is - some see it as a starting point for their finished work. fantasy work relies on this in particular. I quite like slightly surreal photography. far too much emphasis is put on the whole "right in camera" thing... photography is art - and everyone approaches art in their own way.
One reading of your comment seems to say being creative in one area can destroy creativity in another area. In other words let's stop being creative because it kills creativity.
I love the hazing that you added to the image, especially the technique of tapping it on and off of different sections incrementally. It reminded me of the days when I would walk to middle school and the mornings were foggy and nippy. My dad would always walk alongside me. It was awesome. The only thing that I would have done differently is not added as much of the reds and magentas. I would have gone more blues and slight cyans in the darks and whitish yellows in the highlights. The reds/magentas just miss the realism mark for me.
+SAN VAL (GKOALA7) Thank you for you comments on my Dehaze technique or in this case adding haze or fog in lightrom. I can see what you mean about the colors. I love it that everyone has completely different feelings about photography. I think that is what makes it an art form. Happy Lightroom editing.
Ed, you have done a great job. Your tutorials are very easy to follow. Now I don´t see other tutorials the same way, I want them to be as well explained as yours. Are you a teacher by any chance? Your teaching method is very polished. Congrats and thanks for sharing.
i am not a teacher no. i have been an actor for years (I was with the blue man group for 8 years). now I am a full time photographer and run my production studio in Vegas. Your kind words mean a lot though. thank you so muyc. i am just trying top make the best lightroom tutorials I can.
That was pure magic!)) i dont know if the original photographer took the photo like that on purpose, but if he is like beginner / amateur, im sure he/she will be so amazed by this editing result as much as i did! Awesome editing ! Will send you one of my photos also to see what can be done with it by those magic hands )
+Eren Alkan Thank you so much for the comment and I am so happy you enjoyed this Lightroom CC tutorial. I think that the techniques here are great for both lightroom beginners and lightroom professionals. I also hope he enjoys the final edit to. Thank for staying tuned and happy editing.
under exposing the scene like this guy did on such a good camera like the d800 allows you to preserve highlight detail in the sun and brighten the darker shadow areas later.
+Eren Alkan yes you can recover shadows with the d610 the same way. it's An amazing cameras image quality wise, the d750 just has nicer features such as highlight priority metering which automatically underexposes the image the correct amount to get as much highlight detail while not going too far with losing shadows. but you could just as well shoot 2 stops under exposed and get similar results (in scenes with very bright light and very dark shadows. don't do that if you can correctly expose the highlights while correctly exposing the shadows.
Hello :) amazing work and greate tutorial! i wanna ask, the reason i cant move my adjustment brush can be my Lightroom version? Or there is a chance ive missed some setups to be able to do this? Thx :)
+Aktham Shraiba Its my Pleasure. Sometimes it takes me a while to actually make the videos but I always try. I hope this was really helpful and your learned ho to use the Lightroom dehaze slide. Good luck
Great Ed. Love that shoot. Typical how one should do this. Expose for the highlight and work the shadows in post. As you can see plenty information in those dark area's.Nikon D 800 with a great lens at F11 , clear shot. The foreground is a bit dull with that big green area but you made it pop by increasing the red/brown a bit. Good work. Also the blues left and right in the sky, the light triangle and the dehaze , great, love, Well done . This is how it should be done. Bravo However I would have leveled the horizon (left is a bit higher IMO) , was waiting when you would do that, I start with those things, but who cares, still a great job well done.
+RS So happy you liked this edit. I really loved it. it was a challenge to figure out what i would do with it but once I had decided on the mood and feeling things really flowed well. i love using all the sections of lightroom tis it is super powerful. Thanks for all your comments and the specifics about the edit. The horizon is still a little of though, i agree.. oops.
to create have without the haze tool in lightroom CC you can try the brush tool and but exposure and shadows up a long way then apple with the brush. the effexct wont be the same but having a play you might be able to get something similar. Also try grammatically pulling up or down the contrast. (-contrast to add haze + contrast to remove haze). I hope this helped.
Is there any other way to create this haze? Because I don`t have got Lightroom 6 CC, I have got the Lightroom 6 standalone version and there is no dehaze function. btw, excellent tutorial. Love the result
+Calvin Huhn not exactly however using the highlights (+) and shadows (-) sliders should kind of work. Then play with the exposure slider by pulling it back. You can definitely create this effect however you will need to play around. Boost the highlights and shadows and little exposure. then you may need to pull the dark back to counteract the effects. Let me know how it goes.
+Dance Lovely Thank you very much for your help! My result is not as nice, as in the video, but i think, with a little practice, I will get some great results.
If you can do that to a field of trash I'm pretty sure I can do some great stuff with my photos. I discovered how to add haze by accident and used it on a sunset photo once because the water was a bit distracting and looked much better with haze and also on the treeline. I had no idea there was an erase tool. That will come in real handy.
I have an idea for you : Share your picture with community so others can try the same process and we can compare all results and discuss about that. We all have unique taste so you will get a lot of similar but not the same results ... :) (in that case you will definitely raise up your channel ) You have great tutorials and I wish you good luck :)
+Haris Djonko This is a wonderful idea. i am about to do an update to the photos in color website and this may well be a feature I could add. Stay tuned and I will see what I can do. thank you so much for you idea and support for my channel. Happy editing

Amazing video Ed ...Thumbs up
Excellent video. One question though. I have the exact same lightroom version but my brush tool doesn't have a dahaze slider... So, what do I do?
Would you say at the end of the day it comes down to personal preference on how you the (editor) want the picture to look like? I enjoyed the tutorial.

+Michael Sicken Its my pleasure. Thank you so much for your support with my Lightroom CC tutorials. Especially the dehaze tool.
+Dance Lovely Opps i responded using my other chanel. oops
+Intense Wet Dreams do you have any knowledge about d610 nikon? İf i but that camera, is it also good for underexposing as d800?
+Eren Alkan yes you can recover shadows with the d610 the same way. it's An amazing cameras image quality wise, the d750 just has nicer features such as highlight priority metering which automatically underexposes the image the correct amount to get as much highlight detail while not going too far with losing shadows.
but you could just as well shoot 2 stops under exposed and get similar results (in scenes with very bright light and very dark shadows. don't do that if you can correctly expose the highlights while correctly exposing the shadows.
Thank you very much for your help!
my pleasure. the Lightroom dehaze tool is pretty amazing huh.
great video, very informative!
That was amazing! 😃
Wonderful. Super excited that you liked my lightroom dehaze tutorial. Stay tuned. Tomorrow I have something a little different.

Wow, great job !
than you s much,. happy you enjoyed my Lightroom dehaze tutorial
Good work.
Also the blues left and right in the sky, the light triangle and the dehaze , great, love,
Well done . This is how it should be done. Bravo
However I would have leveled the horizon (left is a bit higher IMO) , was waiting when you would do that, I start with those things, but who cares, still a great job well done.
+RS So happy you liked this edit. I really loved it. it was a challenge to figure out what i would do with it but once I had decided on the mood and feeling things really flowed well. i love using all the sections of lightroom tis it is super powerful. Thanks for all your comments and the specifics about the edit. The horizon is still a little of though, i agree.. oops.
+RS hahaha. I commented using my other channel. Oops
Well I survived it ;-)
that was awesome!
Hey ! Thank you for your tutorials, they are really helpful, quick question, with what camera you recorded yourself?

Absolutely fantastic! Love it!
+Marco Tonet thank you so much and I am so happy you enjoyed this Lightroom cc deglaze Titian. Do you use this slider much.
+Photos In Color I have used it sometimes but never in this creative way
Wow I have to try that out! It's amazing. :o
Good stuff here thanks. I stand along in Lightroom 6 so I don't have the haze button. What could I do to produce that?
to create have without the haze tool in lightroom CC you can try the brush tool and but exposure and shadows up a long way then apple with the brush. the effexct wont be the same but having a play you might be able to get something similar. Also try grammatically pulling up or down the contrast. (-contrast to add haze + contrast to remove haze). I hope this helped.
I really love this ....
Now i know how poor i am in lightroom. Bro, you're amazing
+Calvin Huhn i commented using my other channel. sorry about that.
Vers excellent tutorial !!!! A lot or thanks
i like your all tutorial , thanks
+Ibed Messi so happy you enjoyed my Lightroom cc deglaze tutorial for dramas edits in Lightroom. Have you ever used this slider?
+Photos In Color not yet , cause i used lightroom 5 :D , but i always try your all tutorial , love this
If you can do that to a field of trash I'm pretty sure I can do some great stuff with my photos. I discovered how to add haze by accident and used it on a sunset photo once because the water was a bit distracting and looked much better with haze and also on the treeline. I had no idea there was an erase tool. That will come in real handy.
Unbelievable 😍
This is amazingly useful!! Thank you ^^
I have an idea for you :
Share your picture with community so others can try the same process and we can compare all results and discuss about that. We all have unique taste so you will get a lot of similar but not the same results ... :)
(in that case you will definitely raise up your channel )
You have great tutorials and I wish you good luck :)
+Haris Djonko This is a wonderful idea. i am about to do an update to the photos in color website and this may well be a feature I could add. Stay tuned and I will see what I can do. thank you so much for you idea and support for my channel. Happy editing
+Dance Lovely thanks for the comment dance lovely. hehehehehe. wait thats me.
