I gotta admit out of all the videos that I have seen trying to figure out how to make these guys. Your videos have helped out the most. From my first custom to my latest ones there is a huge difference in quality and they look so much better, thank you so much for posting all the tips and tricks to help us out.
Hi, Thank you!! I am so glad you were able to take something from this video! That's what it's all about! Thanks so much for the comment and I wish you all the best of luck with your future projects!!
I don't know what the hell I'd do without your videos showcasing how to ACTUALLY make a custom Funko Pop. Getting ready to start two of my own (Surfing Pikachu and camo Dutch from Predator) and these are exactly the tips/steps I needed. THANK YOU!!!!!
+Billy Raby Awesome!! :D if you are going to try sculpting use Testators Clear coat lacquer. it works best with super Sculpey clay. If you are just painting you can go ahead and use Krylon Crystal Clear. Hope that's not to confusing. Best of luck!!! :)
Haha I had to watch the video to remember! It was a painting of a lion I don't think I have any picture of that one with me. I'll have to ask him for some add at it to an update video. :)
I’m glad to know that I’m not the only one who had the problem with the primer. I tried to prime a pop (this was my first time doing so, mind you) and when it stayed sticky you can understand my fear, lol
+Team Super Awesome Art so I customs myself. not nearly as good as you lol but do you perfer sculpey clay over actual clay? sculpey seems to be the go to when it comes to customs.
+Danii Gibbs I do like Sculpey a lot. The reason being is they have a few different types of Sculpey clay varying in firmness. Also I know how Sculpey clay reacts to heat, paint , primer, etc. I'm not sure what you mean by actual clay though? Do you mean like an air dry clay? If so you have to be careful with air dry clay. they tend to shrink when they dry and that leads to cracking if used on a pop.
Hey Jenny how are u... I just wanted to give u a lil helpful pointer... u should use angelus acrylic paint when u paint figures. They have every color imaginable.... and its not gross like other acrylics
Yes, with the female pop bodies being so small this is common. You have to be careful of how much sculpting you do on the head when the body is tiny. You can always build your sculpt with tin foil and then sculpt on top of that so that the sculpt is lighter.
it really would, like a classic doomsday with all his bones, i saw the shredder you guys did, i think you'd pull of Doomsday perfectly anyway, keep it up, love seeing what you guys make no matter what it is haha :)
Thanks man I really appreciate the support! hopefully in the new year we'll come up with some cool stuff. I haven't been able to post any new customs because everything we have made these last 3 months have been Christmas gift orders and i don't want to spoil any surprises by posting the video of finished Pop. :p So I'll be posting all those soon too! ~Jenny
Vinyl has a vary smooth surface and Acrylic paint will peel off of vinyl. In order to prevent this we prime our pops. Primer will stick to the vinyl and won't peel off. Then you can paint on top of the primer with Acrylic paint.
"Sticky" is caused by the actual plastic and paint combination, nothing to do with humidity. FYI. In the model making world the term "Tackiness" or "Tacky" is the correct terms when talking about that particular issue. Great video btw.
+Evilos Customs You know what you're right I do remember having issues with some paint/ sealant even clay combinations when I first started out. Thanks for all the info and I'm glad you liked the video. :)
Your video is very informative, I need to try brush on sealer. In all the years ive been doing custom ive never used it. I wonder if you can reduce it and shoot it through an airbrush?
+Evilos Customs I Like that brush on sealer because it doesn't react to any of the clay or epoxies so I don't have to worry what I'm using when I'm sculpting. We do use a spray on seal for all our 3D printed figures. The pray does give the figures a super shiny glossy seal that looks really good on those figures and the spray doesn't react to the printer filament or paints we use on those so it always gives a great result. That is a super good question, I have never tried the seal with airbrush. I feel like it drys a little faster then paint so it might be tricky but it wouldn't hurt to try. I'm surprised they don't make a seal to use with spray guns. I never thought to look into that.
I just bought a Pop figure of the Titan from Titanfall 2. It seems very stiff and was wondering if there are any parts that can be removed. i want to strip all the paint and redo the whole paint job. I would just start pulling myself, but i don't want to break it by accident. mind you, this is my first pop figure, so I'm not sure what I can and can't do (other than it being like Munnies).
For the most part if there is a seam you can heat it up a bit to melt the glue and you should be a able to remove that limb. I haven't worked with that pop so I'm not sure what can be removed. Also you don't have to strip factory paint if you are priming the pop. Primer will cover there factory paint. Hope this helps a bit :)
that's weird I'll look into it and make sure I get it working. thanks for letting me know. you can try finding it if you go through the cideos on my channel. if you still can't find it. I'll send you the link. :) Thanks for watching and I'm glad this was useful.
Hello :) thx for the great video!! I don't want my custom pops shiney.. more matte similar to the original Pops.. would you recommend the americana duraclear matte varnish or ultra matte? ^_^❤
Jewelry Bonney hey thanks for watching. I have never tride ultra Matt so I really can't say what it would look like. Bit I would think it would be more of what you were looking for. if you like you can try ultra matt and if you find you don't like it you can go over it with the Matt. I hope that helps some. sorry I couldn't speak from expirenc.
I had to cut off and sand away a few parts from a base pop. I did my best to sand down the vinyl to be as smooth as possible, but of course it’s not as sleek as the surrounding, untouched vinyl. Will the difference in texture be glaring after I paint it? Should I try to sand it down more? (I’m considering putting a very thin layer of Sculpey over the sanded parts. Could that work?)
+Sam Nesselle You can just paint on a pop with out priming. It not an absolute must. The reason I prime to to make sure the paintwork will last and wont chip. Also the colors on the pop might come through so you might have to give it a few coats to get full coverage depending on the paint/colors you are using.
My original character that i have has ginger hair and he kinda looks like Adlet from this anime i watched but its because its his second regeneration what funnko pop should i get to customize? forgot to mention hes a feminine male so would i use a female funko pop for it?
I would pick a pop hat most looks like your vision so that your customizing will be easiest. Funko makes a few anime style pops. I'd say look at those to see if you find something you can work with. You can use a female pop if it matches the look you are going for, I'd say try and pick one that already resembles what you are going for. Less work. :)
This is my first custom and do some of the heads have different sizes because I've seen some where they switch the bodies and the head does not fit on so if that happens what do I do
Do you know how to possibly sand the hands to make them smaller, but without totally destroying them? I got a blank doll, and I don't like how the hands are so big. Do you have any tips or instructions?
Hi i am thinking of making a custom pop figure and bought DAS modelling clay, what are your thoughts on DAS modelling clay compared to supersculpey clay, is there a big difference between the two? Thanks :)
+Zedito Fate I've never used DAS so I couldn't tell you if it will work to sculpt on Pops. Usually the way air dry clay works is once you take it out of the package the moister in the clay begins to dry out allowing it to harden. I found that this causes the clay to shrink slightly. The biggest concern would be once put the clay on the pop and it shrinks it might crack. Like I said I've never used that brand but maybe look into the product and find out if it tends to shrink. I hope this helps a little. Thanks for watching and let me know how it goes!! :) ~ Jenny
Great video! I have several I want to make but don't have the money to commission them. I was wondering if you know how using apoxie sculpting stuff would work? I've seen several other videos using that, so I'm not sure if I should use that and paint it, because then I have more customization for my colors and no need to bake, or if I should bake and use clay, as it seems that's what most people do. Do you have any tips for either for a first time funko maker?
I wouldn't recommend air dry clay. most tend to shrink when they dry so using it over a pop can cause it to crack. Best be is to go with a 2 part epoxy. Best of luck with your project!
Team Super Awesome Art actually i found a clay called apoxie air dry and its two part and all comments say it drys well and dose not shrink. thanks for the help :)
I dont like the grey hair on bride of Chucky Lady in the film it is jet black before she dyes can you tell me the paint I need also some steps to change Thank You x
Have you guys ever worked with Apoxie sculpt? I have some and I was wondering if it works with pops well too. Also, does the vinyl not melt in the oven?
+Beast Mode121 Hey only some are bobble heads. I know all the marvel and star wars pops are bobble heads are for sure. Then there are a bunch of other once that are not bobbles. :)
This is our first time making a custom. We’ve bought a Jessica Jones pop and we’re giving her a paint job to look like Toni Topaz. Should we sand it before painting?
+Max Bennett You could, though I don't know how much coverage you'd get with Sharpies. I've never tried but once it's baked It should work as well as using a Sharpie on any other hard surface. :)
thanks alot ive made a custom scorpion from mortal kombat using sharpies but i didnt sculpt on him. i was just wondering as im not very good with paint
hey i collect Funkos and i love this your work is awesome, and i was wondering if you sell or make some for sale if you do let me know im interested in buying one of those masterpices you make. If i can get my hand on any spiderman like character i do so hey let me know if it can be arranged please i would love to have one super cool looking funko like the ones you make.
+Sam Lopez Follow the directions on the clay box. Just watch your Pop the first time you bake because all ovens aren't the same so you might have to lower the temperature and leave it a little longer.
I haven't try'ed that but I don't think it will cook evenly. If the clay gets to hot it will start to bubble. I would think that by putting it in the microwave that might happen in some spots and not cure all the way through in others. You can try using a blow dryer. I've done this before. though if your clay is too thick it might be hard to get all of it to cure all the way through. So stick to thinner sculpts and make sure you give it enough heat with the dryer that it cures all the way through. Also it you have a heat gun you can use that. it works the same as the blow dryer it cures a little faster because it gets way hotter. Please be careful when using the heat gun and even the blow dryer. They both get very hot.
The Wreck It Ralph Pop I used was given to me because it was quite scuffed up and had no box so it was definitely not worth the price you quoted. Instead of throwing it out I took it and made something different with it. You should definitely try and take a Pop that is on sale/marked way down or one that has been used or to warn to display and turn it into something you made. Maybe give it as a gift to a loved one. :) Who knows you might be great at it!
Cool! Yeah, I've considered it. I recently got some Star Trek ones at toys r us for $.90, but the only problem is that the boxes were destroyed. The paint is still great. I might try the diy ones. :)
Best advice is pic a custom that looks most like the custom you want to make and then plan out what you want to add and figure out what is the beast way to go about it. Follow the steps in the video. :)
Quick question: the only color brands near where I live are Americana, Folkart and Apple barrel - I'm having trouble finding the right color for flesh tones (I need ones for a Caucasian pop and an African American pop) do you have any recommendations for a specific color amongst these specific brands?
Hi, If you can't find the color you are looking for you might have to mix to get the right pigments. So use a brown that is close to that you want and add white and reds and it will allow you to change tones.
We use our home oven. according to the Sculpey website it is safe to use in your home oven. But I do suggest taking a look at the site yourself before deciding if it's something your be comfortable doing. They also make small clay baking ovens. they sell them on amazon and at craft stores. :)
I'm looking to make an original tron funko pop. I think I'm getting a little over zealous but, I was wondering if you could give me some advice. I was going to try an make a clear resin in the body and head to act as the lines for neon. I was going to place a led light inside the pop. My question to you before I start working on it, are the bodies hollow? Will this work at all? Any thoughts?
The bodies are generally solid and the heads are hollow. thoough I have seen artist that do add light the body so it can be done. I'm not quite sure how you are going to use the resin making it hard to give advice on how to go about it. I hope this helps a little best of luck with your project!! :)
Yeah I figured I would paint on the decals of the suit and helmet and then cut them out. Afterwards I was going to make a clear resin to fill in those spaces putting the led light inside the vinyl doll. If it is sold it might make this much harder. I guess I will have to play around with the idea some more before I start. Thanks!
I have a question....I just bought a Hipster/Nerd Belle Pop and I really don't like the glasses. But since the original Belle is retired I want a Belle that is as close to the original as possible. Is there a safe way to remove the glasses and a easy way to paint the eyes since they are not open like the other ones. Thanks:)
+hizi2205 That one is little tough since all the changes are going to be on her face. Look at the lags of the glasses where thy meat the hair. I believe if you take them off there might be a hole in the hair. you would have to patch that up with clay. then you'dd have to remove the I brows and paint them back on. to do that you would need you would need 100% acetone (some nail polish removers are not strong enough) Make sure that the skin color is the color of the vinyl by testing the acetone on the face. pick a little spot under the neck to make sure you don't lift skin skin color when you apply acetone. Once you remove the I Brows you then want to draw them in with a pencil. you can draw them on the vinyl and then free hand them with brown paint. Or you can draw them on some painters tape cut them out and use the tape as a stencil. you can do the same for the eyes if you don't want to free hand them. You can use Folk Art Brand paint paint. You also might want to seal her with a clear Mat sealant. You can buy the spray version so that it'll be really smooth. It 's a little tricky whenever you are removing details. I hope this helps a little, Best of luck. :)
Team Super Awesome Art Thanks a LOT....well this sounds like a lot of work and I'm scared that I mess her up entirely^^ I better get used to those ugly glasses instead:) but thank you again:)
+hizi2205 Yes it is a lot to do for just a few changes. If there was an easier way I would have definitely shared! :) Best wishes and thank you for watching!!!
+jeff213ful I don't really use metallic paints very often. Just because the projects I've done haven't called for metallic so I haven't been able to compare brands. The one I have used before that works pretty well was the Folk Art Brand that I mention in this video. It's inexpensive and I got good results with it. Beast of luck with your project. :)
Great stuff , my question is is it safe to bake the Funko Pop figures in the oven just wondering if there isn't any toxins that would omit from what the company uses ? I know super sculpty is baked that way just curious before attempting. I use green stuff but it's more expensive but self hardens problem is it's very sticky when working with .
Does anyone know if you can you use Liquitex Prof Acrylic Heavy Body???? I know she uses soft but just wondering if you can use any acrylic type of paint.
YuriSama4 yes you can use any acrylic paint. The texture of your paint might be a little different but it should work just the same. You might want to thin out the paint with some water if you find it's ti thick. Best wishes with your project. :)
Do you remember what kind of figure the grey haired one was (the one you used the head of)? I've been trying to find it but I'm not having any luck. It would be perfect for a custom I want to do.
hi! I am in love with ur guys work! I was wondering if u could recommend a POP! that would be great to use for a Bucky Barnes civilian? like the scene where he's buying plums, lol...thanks & I subbed to ur guys channel as ur tips help so much!
The reason I prime my pops is so that I'm left with a finish that takes paint well. Vinyl alone is too smooth. You don't have to prime but I find that not priming leaves you with having to apply more coats to get full coverage and in turn can result in lumpy paint. It all depends what is easier for you personally this is just what I do and what works for me.
I gotta admit out of all the videos that I have seen trying to figure out how to make these guys. Your videos have helped out the most. From my first custom to my latest ones there is a huge difference in quality and they look so much better, thank you so much for posting all the tips and tricks to help us out.

I’ve looked at a few videos for this and this one is probably the best. Thanks
U can also boil water and put the clay inside. It will harden the same. Beats putting in the oven.
You can but I find sculpey gets very brittle with that method
Fresh prince Pop.... ohhhhhh sooooo dope!💯✔️✔️✔️💯
Thank you!!!
This is exactly what I was looking for! Thank you!
+Billy Raby Awesome!! :D if you are going to try sculpting use Testators Clear coat lacquer. it works best with super Sculpey clay. If you are just painting you can go ahead and use Krylon Crystal Clear. Hope that's not to confusing. Best of luck!!! :)
I'm a little interested in what the guys painting
Haha I had to watch the video to remember! It was a painting of a lion I don't think I have any picture of that one with me. I'll have to ask him for some add at it to an update video. :)
Very helpful and nicely done. I'll save this video for when I start with this.
This is awesome! definitely saving and subscribing this, I gotta get all these tools to start a project!
What are you looking to make?
Until I get my tools, I really don't know where to start. I do have a few in mind like creating some Japanimation characters.
Nice! I'm new to this whole sculpting thing myself. Let's stay in touch. Would love to have someone to talk to about this process.
***** Yep!
This was an awesome video, big help on trying to do one of my 1st custom funko pop . trying to tackle something no one has done .
+Alfredo Garcia Awesome, I'm glad this video was able to help you out! Best of luck with your project! :D
+Team Super Awesome Art
thank you for the reply and encouragement
Great video. You're custom pops are amazing!
+@InSoxWeTrust Thanks so much I'm glad you like them!! :D

+Team Super Awesome Art it looks super hard for real
YOU ARE AMAZING!
Thanks for the kind words! You are awesome! :D
thanks for this. i'm excited to try my first one soon and this was very helpful.
This is wonderful thank you so much for sharing.
At what temperature should we put the oven so that the sculpey dries well and the Funko Pop is not damaged? Thank you
Your so talented and a genius thank you so much
Thanks for watching!!! Best of luck with your future custom!! :D
I’m glad to know that I’m not the only one who had the problem with the primer. I tried to prime a pop (this was my first time doing so, mind you) and when it stayed sticky you can understand my fear, lol
Great videos with all the info I was looking for, thanks so much!
+Kelly V Thank you so much for watching, I'm glad it was helpful. Best of luck with your project. :)
i love the shirt!!
+Danii Gibbs Haha Thanks!! :D
+Team Super Awesome Art so I customs myself. not nearly as good as you lol but do you perfer sculpey clay over actual clay? sculpey seems to be the go to when it comes to customs.

+phoenixphace900 Awesome! I'm so glad this helped you. Best of luck on your project!! :D
Thank you for the video! Even if it’s old at this point:)
Korri.Pre omg finally someone in 2020 lol I’m making a Harry styles one for my sister! Fingers crossed! 🤞
This was very helpful
Awesome best of luck with your project!!!
Hey Jenny how are u... I just wanted to give u a lil helpful pointer... u should use angelus acrylic paint when u paint figures. They have every color imaginable.... and its not gross like other acrylics
I made a black canary pop but the head was too heavy for the body, have you ever had that problem and how do you solve it? Xx
Yes, with the female pop bodies being so small this is common. You have to be careful of how much sculpting you do on the head when the body is tiny. You can always build your sculpt with tin foil and then sculpt on top of that so that the sculpt is lighter.
@@teamsuperawesomeart4337 Thank you for replying, this was really helpful ^_^ xx
Do have more videos of the custom TMNT sculptures? I would like to see more detail on how u sculpted the heads and bodies.
Kiyon Kennedy link to the TMNT video. We have a Master Splinter video too :) ruclips.net/video/qLfWNeYlCWU/видео.html
omg, i know it must take ages to do these, but please do Doomsday haha itd be so cool! all your customs are awesome.
+ThePointlessSkills Thank you!! AND We were talking about that the other day Doomsday would make an awesome pop! :D
it really would, like a classic doomsday with all his bones, i saw the shredder you guys did, i think you'd pull of Doomsday perfectly
anyway, keep it up, love seeing what you guys make no matter what it is haha :)

oh awesome! looking forward to seeing them :)
Amazing hun well done, I'd love a custom, to scared to try my self
What airbrush kit do you guys use?
What do you mean by the paint doesn’t ‘stick’ to the vinyl?
Vinyl has a vary smooth surface and Acrylic paint will peel off of vinyl. In order to prevent this we prime our pops. Primer will stick to the vinyl and won't peel off. Then you can paint on top of the primer with Acrylic paint.
Team Super Awesome Art Ooh got it! Thank you!
I always wanted to see this because I wanted to buy a Do It Yourself Funko Pop
I have a question, what would you recommend for gitd painting a pop? I primer my zero and painted him witb a spray paint oil base. And made him yellow
Just watched this video and I am sure it definitely help
Awesome! Best of luck with your future project!!
Do you do the plastic mold inserts?
Can you use air dry clay?
Would you recommend removing all the paint before baking? I can’t tell if you have removed most of it first? Thanks , great video and great help 😊
You don't have to remove the paint on pops. Some vinyls you do have to but not pops. You be find especially if you plan on priming the pop.
Does hair spray work on sealing
Hey no not on pops unfortunately.

Do you think I could use hot glue instead of clay?
Great video! do you have a way to create custom boxes for your pop vinyls?
Hi thank you I'm glad it was helpful. We don't make boxes but I think you can get templates online for pop boxes. :)
I'm very new to making custom pops. Is priming a must?
would you use epoxy putty? only i have some milliput left over from something else. thanks !
Yes you can. :)
thank you!
Great video! Do you mind listing out the recommended product names/ details in a list? I couldn’t see some of the products. Thanks in advance!
Can you guys match the exact skin color from the original paint? I have a pop that i was trying to clean a smudge and instead I ruined it.
I just bought a Pop figure of the Titan from Titanfall 2. It seems very stiff and was wondering if there are any parts that can be removed. i want to strip all the paint and redo the whole paint job. I would just start pulling myself, but i don't want to break it by accident.

Very useful video! Your work is outstanding. One thing though: Your "updated sealant" link didn't work for me. But thank you for the video!

Hello :) thx for the great video!! I don't want my custom pops shiney.. more matte similar to the original Pops.. would you recommend the americana duraclear matte varnish or ultra matte? ^_^❤

Team Super Awesome Art Thank you😊 i'll give it a try!

Will the difference in texture be glaring after I paint it? Should I try to sand it down more? (I’m considering putting a very thin layer of Sculpey over the sanded parts. Could that work?)
did you prime after you were done sanding? that should get rid if the inconsistency.
Team Super Awesome Art No, I haven’t painted it at all. So a primer will even out the texture? Interesting. Thanks!
Yes the primer will give you an even base. If anything you can sand the primer and then re-prime if needed.
thank you for the tutorial :) i'm making esmerelda from hunchback of notre dame
What was this filmed at, 12 frames per second? (Great video otherwise!)
Do you have to prime it? Is it possible to just paint
+Sam Nesselle You can just paint on a pop with out priming. It not an absolute must. The reason I prime to to make sure the paintwork will last and wont chip. Also the colors on the pop might come through so you might have to give it a few coats to get full coverage depending on the paint/colors you are using.
+Team Super Awesome Art i plan on using black and dark grey over a red pop do you think that will work?
Thanks for the vid
+Just Magic Vids Thank you for watching and I hope it helps you out in some way :)
+Team Super Awesome Art could you do a tutorial on the controller and headset?
My original character that i have has ginger hair and he kinda looks like Adlet from this anime i watched but its because its his second regeneration
what funnko pop should i get to customize?
forgot to mention hes a feminine male so would i use a female funko pop for it?
I would pick a pop hat most looks like your vision so that your customizing will be easiest. Funko makes a few anime style pops. I'd say look at those to see if you find something you can work with. You can use a female pop if it matches the look you are going for, I'd say try and pick one that already resembles what you are going for. Less work. :)
Team Super Awesome Art I only have one funko pop and that’s Amethyst from Steven universe
Hi! Did you have to remove the paint from the existing funko pops before sculpting and baking them? Does it not melt in the oven?
Hi no you don't have to remove the paint, just prime the pop before you paint. The pop doesn't melt because the temperature is not hot enough.
This is my first custom and do some of the heads have different sizes because I've seen some where they switch the bodies and the head does not fit on so if that happens what do I do
Do you HAVE to Prime your figure? Say if you just want to repaint it's body do you have to? Thanks. Love the video by the way.
Do you know how to possibly sand the hands to make them smaller, but without totally destroying them? I got a blank doll, and I don't like how the hands are so big. Do you have any tips or instructions?
You would have to cut the hands off and sculpt new ones. Vinyl is very hard to sand smooth because is it rubbery and not a hard surface.
:) ~ Jenny
When using the DIY funko, can I change the arms posture?
For example, turning one until it touches the "chin"
Great video! I have several I want to make but don't have the money to commission them. I was wondering if you know how using apoxie sculpting stuff would work? I've seen several other videos using that, so I'm not sure if I should use that and paint it, because then I have more customization for my colors and no need to bake, or if I should bake and use clay, as it seems that's what most people do. Do you have any tips for either for a first time funko maker?
YOu can use Epoxy. We use epoxy but my personal preface is clay. You can use whatever you are most comfortable using they both work on vinyls. :)
Got any recommendations on air dry clay? I don't feel its a good idea to bake it. ☺
I’ve heard while using super sculpy and baking your vinyl it can make toxic fumes is that true?
Hey I brought Funko Pop I saw my Funko face bottom look like bump . How fix of bump face bottom? Sanding ?? Pls tell me how and thanks
Just want to ask....what is the size of the funko head? Thank you in advance 😃
may I ask what temperature *you* use when baking & how long? really nervous about baking lol
Hi, yes we do use Apoxie from time to time and it works well with pops. And pops do fine in the oven at the temperature needed to cure clay.
How did you glue the head on?
E6000 glue works best.
if you use an already finished Funko pop that you got from the store do you have to strip off the paint before you paint it again?
Libs nope I suggest priming it though. So that the paint sticks.
I just wondering how to build the head and the body?? Do you have a tutorial how it works the whole time? Did anyone know a link how to make it?
Im starting my own pop figure collection and why are yours not boble heads?
+Beast Mode121 Hey only some are bobble heads. I know all the marvel and star wars pops are bobble heads are for sure. Then there are a bunch of other once that are not bobbles. :)
Thanks :)
+Beast Mode121 Best of luck to you. :)
This is our first time making a custom. We’ve bought a Jessica Jones pop and we’re giving her a paint job to look like Toni Topaz. Should we sand it before painting?
Hi I'm so sorry for the delay, I just saw your question. You don't have to sand but I recommend priming your pop before paint.
Can u colour super sculpy with sharpie??
+Max Bennett You could, though I don't know how much coverage you'd get with Sharpies. I've never tried but once it's baked It should work as well as using a Sharpie on any other hard surface. :)
thanks alot ive made a custom scorpion from mortal kombat using sharpies but i didnt sculpt on him. i was just wondering as im not very good with paint
You should get the same affect on sculpey as you would on the vinyl. Best of luck!
you have probably been asked a hundred times. But how did you make the fabric for the bandanas stiff and usable?
Does the vinyl has the same smooth texture after painting?
hey i collect Funkos and i love this your work is awesome, and i was wondering if you sell or make some for sale if you do let me know im interested in buying one of those masterpices you make. If i can get my hand on any spiderman like character i do so hey let me know if it can be arranged please i would love to have one super cool looking funko like the ones you make.
How long do you leave them to bake?
+Sam Lopez Follow the directions on the clay box. Just watch your Pop the first time you bake because all ovens aren't the same so you might have to lower the temperature and leave it a little longer.
+Team Super Awesome Art is it possible to just use a microwave instead of an oven?
This is gutsy. Those wreck it Ralph ones are selling for about $100. I could never paint over it. 😱😭
Have you ever customized Titan vinyl figures? I have been looking everywhere and it seems no one has done that yet.
I haven't worked on a Titans figure yet. It would be cool to see one though. :)
im trying to make a bombshell poison ivy funko pop or mileena from mortal kombat any tips i really need the advice
Best advice is pic a custom that looks most like the custom you want to make and then plan out what you want to add and figure out what is the beast way to go about it. Follow the steps in the video. :)
Team Super Awesome Art thank u soo much 😄
hi im doing my first custom i got the diy one but when i paint it comes out with strikes how can i prevent that
you have to prime the diy pop first so the paint has something to stick to.
Do you make & sell them? I would love one!
Do you need a separate oven to bake the figures or is it safe to use the one you're cooking with ?
Thanks!
I had that same idea on Tron! I wonder why Funko has not done it yet!?
I actually started my molds this weekend. Hopefully I will have something in the next week or so.
***** Looking forward to this.
Hey, I was wondering if it is dangerous to bake the clay in the oven? I've heard some people say it's toxic so I'm not sure. Thanks!!
:) Best wishes and thank you for watching!!!
which metallic paint you recommend
+jeff213ful I don't really use metallic paints very often. Just because the projects I've done haven't called for metallic so I haven't been able to compare brands. The one I have used before that works pretty well was the Folk Art Brand that I mention in this video. It's inexpensive and I got good results with it. Beast of luck with your project. :)
Let's say your figure has a long-sleeved shirt (a pretty thin one), would you be able to sand it down so it could be short sleeves? Thanks!
Yes you can. you might have to sculpt the short sleeve but you can sand down the long sleeve.
If you're uncomfortable cutting off the head of the funko pop can you just paint an already existing pop
It was a Tomorrow Land pop. Frank Walker I believe.
kate hil that's correct it's frank but all the tomorrow land pops have been vaulted so you're going to have a hard time finding them!
hi! I am in love with ur guys work! I was wondering if u could recommend a POP! that would be great to use for a Bucky Barnes civilian? like the scene where he's buying plums, lol...thanks & I subbed to ur guys channel as ur tips help so much!
I LOVE THAT IDEA
So what do you do when you have your fingerprints on the clay?
RedDeadAndres once u bake it then u use sand paper to remove them
Yep it's lot's of sanding to remove imperfections. you can try a wet paintbrush to smooth them out before you bake.
I'm doing my very first custom, I'm so happy and terrifying because for now I'm doing good...
Did I really need to Prime it if I using the DIY POP?
The reason I prime my pops is so that I'm left with a finish that takes paint well. Vinyl alone is too smooth. You don't have to prime but I find that not priming leaves you with having to apply more coats to get full coverage and in turn can result in lumpy paint. It all depends what is easier for you personally this is just what I do and what works for me.
how do you put the head back on?
YOu can use E6000 Glue to glue it back on.
