I was so inspired by Laura's book & Seabiscuit himself, I made two videos (back in 2005-ish), one about the match race with War Admiral, the second about Seabiscuit's
comeback, both drawing from the American Experience documentary. By accident, I happened to see the film 'Untouchables', with Kevin Costner & Sean Connery, with soundtrack by the late great film composer, Ennio Morricone. There was a very exciting scene involving the Untouchables (on horseback) intercepting a shipment of Al Capone's booze on the Canadian/US border. As I watched it, in my mind, the music conjured up the images from the match-race with War Admiral. Although I liked the Film, I thought the heroic drama of that music was somehow wasted on the drug-bust. So I cobbled together the video track from the match-race, with Morricone's wonderful music.
When I played it back the first time, I was astounded. It was as if Maestro Morricone had written that score exactly, stride-for-stride, to portray that seminal moment in Seabiscuit's career. I had always hoped that I could somehow get a text message off to Ennio, because I think he would have been truly pleased and amazed at how perfectly his score for a film made 40 years later, matched up with that magical day in 1938. Unfortunately we lost Ennio a couple of years ago, and I'll never know if he saw it. Note to Scott Hazelton, I'd love it if you could pass this along to Ms. Hillenbrand, who did so much to bring this story to life for me and many subsequent generations of Americans.
My youtube channel is not monetized, I'm not seeking subscribers (and I've tried to get RUclips to not use it for ads, but they ignore my requests). In any case, anyone who loves this story will, I believe enjoy watching this video, with the little bit of dumb-luck I had stitching it together:

I also did one on Seabiscuit's comeback at Santa Anita which is pretty good too:

I seldom comment on RUclipss; I have never made a negative comment, until now. You (Scott) repeatedly refer to Laura's books* as novels, which neither is. Both are extensively-research non-fiction histories of their respective stories. This is a real disservice to, IMHO, the best non-fiction author I've ever read (& I've read a bit). What's amazing is that she has so much class she didn't call you out on this. I would ask you to please consider correcting this on your channel. Thanks for your consideration. * Seabiscuit: An American Legend and Unbroken: A World War II Story of Survival, Resilience, and Redemption
