"A perfect blossom is a rare thing.
You could spend your life looking for one and it would not be a wasted life.
They are all perfect."
Thank you! No one reacted to him seeing the perfect blossom. Its a beautiful death!
“YOU have YOUR honor again; let ME die with MINE.”
So true. To apply to humanity, every life is unique and one of a kind, so all life is perfect. That is why Jesus Christ defined the standard of perfection as accepting His gift of salvation, a supernatural standard.

Tom Cruise saying "I will miss our conversations" and then seeing Ken's slight smile before being put out of his misery is honestly one of the saddest most well done scenes ever for me. Right up there with Maximus's death in Gladiator when he's reunited with family on the Elysium Fields.
You people don't care if something is historically accurate now do you...
Just playing on emotions, weak asf
@@asavapowell7480 Bruh, art exists to evoke emotions in people. That's the whole point.
No movie is historically accurate, that's about the weakest criticism there is.
If a movie portrays a historical event.... Oh no imagine liking it to be accurate.
This is not avengers or something, lmaoo... But whatever. It's still My Oppinion and so do many many others.. Dumb movie
@@asavapowell7480 They would not have trained a non American in reality and In reality the Ninja were good except the ones that became hired killers for the Shoguns and the Samurai and Shoguns were bad and the enemy of the Ninja but it is still a good movie.
Katsumoto joined Ragnar Lothbrok and Maximus Decimus Meridius. They all walked through the Elysium Fields to the Pearly Gates and entered Valhalla, where the brave live forever!!!
i consider myself a really strong person, and when i watched this in theatres as a kid i cried. as a grown man i can say that the ending to this movie still has me balling my eyes out every time, was fighting tears the entire video
I agree 100%, I RARELY CRY, in fact I can count on both hands and have spare fingers how many times I’ve cried as an adult. I didn’t even cry when I lost my mother unexpectedly 6 weeks after she found out she had pancreatic cancer. The worst I ever cried was when I lost my dog Precious after we had to put her to sleep 2 years ago because as a almost 40 year old fully disabled combat veteran and an Avowed Atheist I knew I would never get to see her again and my dogs ARE MY “Kids” because I never wanted kids. So losing her was just like losing a kid and I will argue with ANYONE ANYTIME about the FACT that they’re the same especially with how I take care of my dogs! I’ve lost military brothers and one sister, never cried. For some reason this movie along with Meet Joe Black and The Notebook all made me weep like a little b*tch!!

Most people seem to misunderstand that Tom cruise wasn't the last samurai. It meant that the samurai as a whole
Exactly but they do have the mental state of 15 year Olds... So yeaaa
I think it can be interpreted to refer to either the Samurai as a whole, or to Katsumoto himself. Or both. Either way, it's certainly not referring to Tom Cruise.
It was a problem with marketing. You've got a movie poster of Tom Cruise in Samurai armor, with the title The Last Samurai over his head. That's where the impression came from. In a perfect world, It would've been a picture of Ken Watanabe as Katsumoto with The Last Samurai over his head, but would as many people have gone out to the cinema to watch it? Who knows. But a Hollywood studio isn't gonna roll those dice. They'll put their biggest name as front and center as possible. Just the nature of marketing.
@@TheLanceUppercut Agreed homies. But haters gotta hate :/
Of course Tom Cruise was not a samurai and he cannot be.

Cruise should have won an Oscar and movie should have won best picture
Yo, the dude at the end... that's me every single time I watch this movie. Makes me cry every single time. Love this movie.
Didn't see a comment about it, but the movie is about the battle of shiroyama. What makes it so tragic is it played out in such a one sided massacre. The samurai, futile but courageous, would rather the code die with them than before them. They weren't fighting a specific enemy. They didn't fight for a lord or a clan. They were there to fight for an idea. They were fighting the very course of time. A fight they knew they wouldn't win, yet worth their lives.
Which is exactly why it’s so important to document and keep these stories of history alive for future generations.
A real tear jerker film ... Sacrifice , braveness and a lot of tears ! Ken Watanabe's acting as Katsumoto , is unbelievable ! And credits to Tom Cruise too

"I will miss our conversations." That's the part that gets me
I recommend to watch the scene with closed Eyes. Just the maschine sound of the gatling gun combined with the dying man and horses gave me goosebumbs and tears. You really feel how meaningless and inhuman war is.
I cry with this scene and also the practice sword fight in the rain but in a different way. There I feel truly identified with the never surrender spirit no matter what.
My favorite line from this movie was this one:
“What happened to the warriors at Thermopylae?
Dead to the last man. “ *smiles*
There’s a damn good reason these stories about bravery, courage and making a stand against overwhelming odds echo across generations and centuries and eventually find our way to us. There is something to learn from them. Honor.
Katsumoto hopes that sometime in the future, hundreds of years from his death, two warriors sharing a trench in a hopeless battlefield will be moved to bravery by the memory of how Katsumoto gave his life in this battle, like Leonidas and the Spartans at Thermopylae gave their lives in that battle.
It is the one of the greatest things a true warrior can aspire to. To be the memory that inspires bravery in the face of overwhelming odds and inevitable defeat, that your death may echo through the generations as a powerful moment upon which history turned and, in a way, was more impactful than your victory could have been.
Well, not always those stories are known by the masses. There's A LOT of this events in history still unknown for the majority because Hollywood hasn't made movies about them...
“The Way of the Samurai is found in death. When it comes to either/or, there is only the quick choice of death. It is not particularly difficult. Be determined and advance.“
- Tsunetomo Yamamoto, book Hagakure
I was right there with you bro. I am a big strong man who cried my eyes out during that scene as well as one or two before it.. This was a truly amazing movie. Who would have thought that Tom Cruise was the last Samurai. He definitely had to go back to that beautiful lady and those cute kids. Tell me how he died. I will tell you how he lived. Those two lines still give me goose pimples.
I always took it as Katsumoto was the last samurai and the movie was a story of his passing. That is why they showed honor to his death.
@@DanteShadowfall Well the last Samuri was meant to be Tom Cruise cause he lived on. He is the last samuri. Great movie. I know when I first watched it. I was never expecting it to be such a great movie. Well being Tom Cruise doesn't take away from honoring Katsumoto's death. The story is more about how a non Japanese person would end up becoming that last of something that has been a big and important part of their history. The last samuri wasn't japanese, but an American. You know, one of those twists hollywood loves to put in their movies. The last true blooded Samuri was Katsumoto.
But he wasn't even a samurai... Didn't take he's life Tru senpuku.
This is just trash
@@asavapowell7480 He was a samurai, that is what the title means. This was a great movie. Your in a very small minority if you didn't like it. Everybody has a right to their own opinion even when it is trash.
Tom Cruise character Algren was not the Last Samurai, the title refers to the all the Samurai as this was the end of an era, an end to the samurai way

Seeing honorable/moral men dying a Beautiful Death will bring almost anyone to tears. It touches the soul seeing them sacrifice themselves for a great cause. Its painfull to see men like this go extinct but damn it Thank God they lived in the first place. Beautiful life & Beatiful death!
They're not extinct the ideals and philosophies they left behind are still there waiting for people in the modern age to apply and use to become men of character and substance the kind who would sacrifice themselves for a greater ideal, in short, reject modernity embrace philosophy and manliness.
This movie is considered one of the movies that brought men to tears,
as for the list of these movies they are:
1- Braveheart
2- Gladiator
3- The last Samurai
4- The Green Mile
Don’t forget to add the movie called: “The Powder” (1995)
And also: 47 Ronin with Keanu reaves.
"They are all perfect"
And the kneeling...the respect
Dude. I've seen this movie at least a dozen times, and I'm still bawling like a three year old here at the end
Watched this a dozen times and it hits EVERYTIME.
You can argue that Ken or Tom was the last Samurai.
you could also argue that all of the Samurai who died in that last fictional battle were the last Samurai.
You could also
, also argue that Tommy should have committed senpuku as he lost he's honor in defeat..
Oh wait, he didn't have any to begin with.
Alright continue
Seeing brave men mowed down is always painful but a) can't help crying during this scene and b) always want strangle Ohura looking him in the eyes...
Nice lady exclaims: ''They can't win.''
My reply: ''They can't lose.''
If you look closely in that scene you can see ujiro in the back of the charge when they all get torn to shreds

壮絶な死は永遠に敵にも語り継がれます。そして敵の心も変えれます。

I think it's because many men in general strive to be what the samurai were - strong, honorable, courageous, stands up for their beliefs, and just plain good men. Also, Samurai were just one group, but I think every culture has these traits ingrained in what a warrior should be. And that's why many men relate to this, no matter what their culture or ethnicity is

Every time i see the last samurai i think of the Paul moody line.

Ladies, please keep in mind this is but a movie.. A touching, tear-filled movie.... But just a movie.. Man's inhumanity towards man. Humans have done this to each other since the beginning of time. And to think that gun was invented by a doctor.. Kinda like Nobel and his explosives.... You all take care AND have a Happy New Year......!!!!!!!!!!
When firearms were a realization that began the trend of heart wrenching loses all over the world today. Now we need it without retrospect in order to protect.
Gatling and howitzers, that is our (Western) contribution to changing Japan. Weapons created to turn as many people as possible into mincemeat in one fell swoop.
You allow me to feel not pride but disgust.
This is a true history. However, the film maker made some creative liberty. Ex. the American Cpt. is actually French and etc.
The last guy was struggling so hard
I have to say from the reactions I have seen, it hits everyone hard, but it hits men like a fucking freight train. I was ugly crying in the theater. I don't know why that is, but seems to be the case.
Unfortunately the last act by Tom Cruise character (Nathan Algren ) to assist in helping Katsumoto played by (Ken Watanabe )who shined the most in this film my opinion, commit ''Seppuku'' the death of a samurai was not intended as a quick death to immortality, rather it was a extremely painful way to go, by the tradition of the samurai code it attached importance to the manner of the samurai death, taking your own life, was seen as a Valiant glorious, death, rather then at the hands of a enemy, that's why when Seppuku or suicide was performed there would be hopefully be assisted by a fellow samurai who would draw his katana and end his suffering with one swift stroke to remove his head,
This act of suicide (seppuku) in battle, is not the same as another form of taking one's life in japanese traditions ''hara-kiri'' was a ritual suicide this method involved a short sword plunging into your belly, at same time drawing the blade across your stomach hence the name disembowelment, unfortunately death wouldnt be quick bleeding out could be slow , however the pain would be something else, it was generally performed if one had brought great shame on the family or failed in a task back in the day , taking your own life brought honour back to your name, it was also used as a form of protest or punishment .
There is a clip of a deleted scene from this movie here on RUclips. The guy who taught swordsmanship is walking into the city and 2 men dressed in suits tease him about wearing a samurai outfit. Then they stand in his way trying to humiliate him. It does not end well for one of them. Worth seeing for sure.
Which would be bullshido...
Since bushido teaches restraint instead of getting your feelings in a bunch over an insult lmfaoo
@@asavapowell7480 sometimes you gotta chop a dudes head off in public so that everyone that steps to you comes with the proper measure of respect. 😜
@@asavapowell7480 Perhaps, but at the same time, as far as the samurai was concerned, he was simply executing his rights. Not sure when the law was repealed, but at least in the time before the Meiji Restoration, samurai were permitted, by right of law and privilege of class, to immediately kill any commoner or peasant who insulted or otherwise showed disrespect towards him. That could be interpreted as physically or verbally assaulting him, or even something so minor as failing to bow your head in deference to him as he walked past, and everything in between.

So many conflicts...so much war and death. Sadly, and historically, the human race solves nothing with it. We are always looking for a way to destroy each other. If we only knew how much we truly have in common! It's so sad....
We have historical bias on our side, violence has been bred into us for the simple reason that the people or cultures that were not violent have all been exterminated by the people who were violent long ago. Now we act like it's a universal human truth, the reality is that it is a universal truth only of the civilisations that have survived.
The girl at the end, and her looks...
Yep pathetic tbh
in reality, the imperial japanese army got the gatling guns and used them against the samurai, after capturing them from a different samurai clan who used them in their castle defence against the imperial army
The samurais were already master of firearms after being introduced to it by the Europeans in 16th century.
😂😂😂😂😅😅😅
men really cry in this movie because something about in our DNA about honor, duty and respect! something about the samurai that no woman, or other race but such a honorable race can do..this is why it is not about "race mixing" it is about "preserving" ones "roots"

The real thing to remember is the sacrifice of one's self for duty and HONOR, cry if you must at this scene. However never forget that we in this time and age will never have the chance to show or prove this level of devotion to anything other than our own desires.
Did you take the shots to keep your job? Wear a mask even though you knew it was useless? Go along with a man can get pregnant? Honor can be found in many different places. Do you not know that Malcolm or Bobby knew the danger? After Martin was shot, Bobby stood up in the back of a pickup truck to speak in front of hundreds of angry enraged blacks. The police told him they could not protect him, that he would be on his own. That city did not burn. If honor was easy, it would not be worth so much.
@@jantzfitzgerald6115 I haven't had a shot, I don't wear a mask and no men can not get pregnant in my opinion. Good job going on your little rant, but I have no fucking clue who Malcom, Bobby, or whatever you seem to talking out of your ass about , just shut up I don't care.
