  • I had the great fortune this week to spend some time on the 2024 KTM 1390 Super Duke. There have only been a handful of these bikes delivered to the US so far so getting the opportunity to take this bike out and see how it performs was a fantastic. The bike is everything we've come to expect from the SDR and in many ways, just a bit better. Thanks so much to my friends @faymyersdenver for giving me the opportunity to make this video. I've been doing business with Fay Meyers Motorcycle World for nearly 20 years and I won't go anywhere else to get my bikes, or have them serviced. Enjoy the video and let me know in the comments what you think.

    Just laid down a deposit on one,Havent had a super duke since 2015 model. did they upgrade steering damper?

      @upshiftingadventures4034  2 месяца назад

      I don't think they upgraded the steering damper but it's easy enough to pull it apart and put some heavier gear oil in there. Or you could just go with an after market one. I have a Muopo progressive, adjustable damper on mine and it works great. I think I paid around $300 for it.

    Hey, thanks for the video! I've been contemplating an upgrade to my 2021 MT-09 SP, I've got it down to this and the M1000R. Do you have any experience with the latter? The BMW dealer has their 30y anniversary this year and are offering a 0% interest rate, so that would (with the comp pack) go up to 38 k €, the Duke with the Akra exhaust and some extras would also go similar, but that would go the extra 10k € with interest over 6 y, so common sense tells me to go with the M R. I'm pretty sure the bemer will hold better after sale value and seems to be a bit more refined and most likely more track oriented? Last fall I went to my first track day and was super excited, so I'm planning on taking it more seriously. But other than that it would mostly be non track related riding. The BMW would also have a longer factory warranty. But as you mentioned, the smiles per miles probably will be higher on the KTM, well definitely. Gonna try to test the duke this friday, but it's snowing right now.. and the M R on Saturday, not many of them around here and the season is almost starting. Cheers from Finland.

      I don't have any experience with the BMW but I agree that resale value is probably higher. I have heard that the M vibrates horribly at highway speeds but that's not something I can confirm.

    Finally the duke of superdukes reviewed the beast, one thing you didn’t mention which i always focus on is how was the heat compared to previous gen and other bikes?? 🙏🏻 thanks

    • @upshiftingadventures4034
      @upshiftingadventures4034  3 месяца назад

      The heat was about the same, maybe a little bit less but I can’t say for sure. But with a naked that has the exhaust coming out under your leg, there’s not much that can be done

    I think I know why the motor is a bit smoother at lower RPMs - it doesn't have the aggressive cams of the Super Duke 1290R. The 1290R needs them to be more aggressive to give the 1290R more high end power - with the variable cam it can use less aggressive / more optimised cams under a certain RPM thus giving the bike a bit more "refinement" at lower RPMs. Undoubtably has as good or even better torque everywhere as well.

    • @upshiftingadventures4034
      @upshiftingadventures4034  3 месяца назад

      I would agree. The cam shift gives the bike an all around smoother feel, plus the larger throttle bodies give better response. All in all the bike is much more refined

      @@upshiftingadventures4034 Being honest, that makes the Super Duke less interesting to me! Good thing I have a 1290R Evo. ;)

      @ShamanWS6 I completely agree with you. While the new 1390 is a fantastic bike, I still prefer the rawness of the prior generation bikes

    Was thinking about getting the 1390...but my 21 1290R is NASTY with the tech pack an BT-MOTO FLASH!!!
    Anyone with a 20 to 23 get the tech pack an BT-MOTO FLASH before you buy the 1390 an your welcome 🤘🤣🤘
    Performance mode or track with the throttle in track mode....hope you understand she's only happy on the rear tire passing everyone 😂😂😂 BEST HOOLIGAN BIKE!!!!🍻🤙🏼🤙🏼

      I prefer my 1290 over the new one and it's because the 1290 is just more raunchy, which is why I like the bike in the first place. I think the 1390 will probably do better in a track setting, but I don't ride tracks so it's a no brainer for me. Where can you get the BT-MOTO flash and is it downloadable, or does it need to be installed and dyno tuned?

    Duuuude! You have a super duke too? I have an EBR 1190 SX and a KTM 690. We have very similar tastes in bikes.

    I'm sure it's restricted from the factory like ever other bike is these days. I wonder how it is once it's fully unlocked.

    2023 Super Duke T Evo 1,100 full coverage at 500 dollar deductible, 1100 a year. 2024 1390 Super Duke R, 5000 a year. No thanks. I am 41 with no accidents and no tickets on my record, and I have shopped 6 insurance companies. Just saying, not worth it if you are financing the bike. I bought a 2023 Super Duke R Evo, about 300 a month less in insurance.

    • @upshiftingadventures4034
      @upshiftingadventures4034  3 месяца назад

      I guess it depends how bad you want the bike. As I said in the video, I prefer the more wild nature of my 1290 to the refined ride of the 1390. But 5000 a year seems really pricey in comparison

    Good review. As a fellow 1290 owner, what I want to know is are you trading yours in? I’m still happy with my 2020, spent thousands on mods already and still many more ideas on this bike, like a tune next year. Still not sold on the looks of the ‘24.

      I think the 2024 looks insane, I’m super keen on the looks. That being said, no I’m not tearing my 1290. The 1390 is a great bike but it has lost some of the rawness of the older gen bikes with the new cam shift technology. What I love most about the 1290 is the gruntiness of the motor and the new bike doesn’t have that

    • @kmfiz
      @kmfiz 3 месяца назад

      @@upshiftingadventures4034 Good to hear that. Yeah I think the shift cam motor is better for track, more steam up top. The bigger hit of torque in the middle is just perfect for the riding I do on the street on the gen 3.

    This year I became a Duke owner. I was going to buy the 2024 but several people including the dealership I was at told me that it's not a great idea to buy one the first year, new model, so I bought a 2023, that being said I love it. It's awesome, but I can see a 1390 in my future in 2025. Keep up the great work. Love you videos.

      I really think the biggest difference between the two is just the aggressive behavior of the motor on the 1290. The 1390 is a great bike, make no mistake about it, but it is more tame than the previous version.

    My wife just bought me the black and orange 1390 Evo R yesterday. I had the same thoughts, so much smoother than my gen 1 that I owned.
    The first thing I noticed was the torque. You can leave a stop sign with almost zero throttle. I just wants to go.
    How do you get the navigation to work? My Bluetooth is set up but that icon is blacked out. I'm guessing that option isn't open to me yet.

      I’ve heard a few others mention difficulty with the nav system but I’m not sure how it is fixed. Maybe contact KTM directly?
