Omg we‘re finally here. My absolutely favourite season. I have rewatched it so many times. Noel’s my favourite (has been before I even knew Taskmaster). His mind just works differently. It’s so fun. Lolly was also on a British sitcom called ‘Ghosts’ and was amazing in it. There’s an American remake of it but it’s definitely not as good. That show would definitely be worth checking out.
Yay!!! I'm always glad when I hear that a season is someone's fave. Thanks so much for sharing your thoughts on it. Oh yeah Ghosts- I watched the first episode of the American one and didn't get into it. I know sometimes you need to give a new show more eps before giving up, but my test is that if it's a comedy, and I literally did not laugh at least one time (and you see how easily I laugh), then nah. But I did know that it was a remake of the British original, and I'd be happy to give that one a go :)
@@DavidvsFilm it’s a shame. Because the original is so lovely. It’s got many Taskmaster contestants in it (though Lolly is the first you have seen on Taskmaster at this point, the others come in later seasons). There’s also way fewer episodes in the British versions as there usually is if a sitcom gets picked up in America. It’s 5 seasons with a total of 34 episodes (6 episodes per season plus 4 Christmas episodes in seasons 2-5). I can share a google drive link to them if needed or wished. They're currently filming it with Ben Kingsley, Pierce Brosnan, Helen Mirren and Cilia Imrie. Christopher Columbus is directing, Steven Spieldberg is the producer. The humor is RIGHT up your ally.
Joe Lycett has some great shows too, I love how he is able to write the most absurd emails to government people and companies to really get under their skin and promote change in England etc. He is wicked smart!

I feel like we need to point out 2 big things about this season, both based around Mel 1. Mel is the only contestant Alex ever wears a tie for, when asked why on the podcast his response was simply ‘because she’s Mel Giedroyc!’ No further explanation 2. Mel refers to Hugh as ‘Desky’ several times and I don’t think it’s ever explained why on the actual show, the short story is that Hugh went to Cambridge University and felt he needed to work much harder than the other students to keep up, so he didn’t socialise as much and they nicknamed him ‘Desky Dennis’ as he was always studying, he told this story to Mel and Sue on their show once and Mel found it so hilarious she has called him it ever since 3. You may notice Mel collect the little wax seals off the tasks in her pocket, she saved them for a little bit who is a fan of the show Hope this helps and you enjoy this series, I love it!
I don’t know if you’ve watched Bridgerton: Queen Charlotte … but Hugh Dennis is King George’s Butler’s dad. The part of King George’s Butler is played by Hugh Dennis’s kid!
Hey David, been loving the reactions to taskmaster. My wife and I do our own scoring for each task just to see who wins at the end of each series. Would love to see your take on it.
Ahhhh I love this line-up! Mel is human sunshine and Noel is just bonkers 😂. There’s a team task this season that makes me HOWL. Mel used to present Bake Off with Sue Perkins (who will show up on Taskmaster eventually too, they’re both awesome).
it’s so curious as well because for some reason this season has *so* many tasks that involve needing to have good drawing skills.. i wonder why they decided to give him that advantage 😅
I absolutley love Joe Lycett. His stand up is amazing and really postive. He does a consumer justice show called Joe Lycett's Got Your Back; where he exposes companies for unfair treatment and extorsion of customers; at one point he legally changed his name to Hugo Boss to expose the brand for their absurd legal litgation against small companies. Plus he just regularly does stunts using his status to draw attention to general social and environmental issues.
Oh no!! I’m sorry! I don’t know British celebs as well, but I’m learning! Thank you guys for educating me in who they are- that’s why I love watching this way :)
@DavidvsFilm just kidding of course 😊. Mel and Sue's departure from GBBO was a huge deal at the time. They, and the celebrity chef, Mary Berry, left in protest when GBBO left the BBC for more money at Channel 4. The BBC had nurtured the show and given it its chance at life - then once it was a massive hit the production company showed no loyalty or solidarity. It would be like Sesame Street dumping PBS for Netflix. Mel, Sue and Mary's decision cost them a huge amount of money. They showed huge conviction. Paul Hollywood is... Paul Hollywood.
I do like this season a lot. I like Hughes demeanor, Joe is so funny as is Mel but I love Noel the most. Maybe because I'd seen The IT Crowd and Mighty Boosh before this.
HOT DOG!! The wife JUST asked me if you had uploaded any new Taskmaster yet and I told her no. Now I have to hide this from her, as a surprise, so we can watch it this evening. Thanks, my man!!
Also: if you enjoy lateral thinking, you are going to *love* Hugh Dennis. IMO, the best lateral thinker in TM history until this point (17 seasons + CoC + specials)
Susie Dent is the lexicographer on Countdown & Cats Does Countdown, the only reason why she got a mention in series two is because Joe Wilkinson and Jon Richardson were regulars on Cats Does Countdown, a program that both Greg and Alex have appeared as guests.
This was such a brilliant reaction, you should definitely check out more of Joe Lycett I'm sure you will love his style he likes to be awkward to the world doing things like disputing parking fines, he once changed his name to Hugo Boss to annoy the corporation, he is a petty lover 😅
I love Mel, she is a joy to watch. She used to be part of a double act called Mel and Sue which is why there was a round of applause when ALex said "Mel and Shoe". As others have pointed out they were the original presenters of the British Baking show. Mel and Hugh were at Cambridge together too, and You will meet Sue at a later date, but for now enjoy everything that Mel brings to the season.
Ahh thank you so much!! Yeah, I honestly didn't know anything at all about her. But needless to say that even just barely in (I've seen Episodes 1 and 2), I love her.
Hahahah, not what I expected after full mirror access, let's just say. But then again, I had no reason to assume that Hugh was an "arteest". You're right though- hilarious regardless.
Joe is just excellent. A really excellent guy. He has a very anarchic live TV show that he presents from his home city of Birmingham, and the best bit for me is that most of the jobs the crew go to local media students and graduates. He also does some very good campaigns and stunts about various social and political issues.
Yaasss! Hey David - S'up! I hope you're well Sweetheart. Here in the UK, it's Friday evening, I've got my glass of rosé. Let's go Season 4 (definitely a favourite)! -x-
So...Hugh was the bank manager in Fleabag, Lolly was the woman at desk in Mission Impossible Fallout, but she's done tons of stuff since then. Mel is as mad as a box of frogs and was one of the presenters of the Great British Bake Off before Noel and Joe is one of my favourite comedians, you should check out some of his stuff.
Ah, I love this series so much and I love all the contestants. They just spark so well. Mel is the sort of person who just brings sunshine with her wherever she goes. It's a shame you weren't going to get the Mel and shoe joke as it's great but there is an out take of that bit that's is brilliant and won't spoil anything for you. You will see Mel's comedy partner, Sue Perkins, in series 16. They first appeared on our screens in a 90's programme called light lunch, so when bake off came around they were the natural choice as presenters. At this point Noel knew he was going to be the next host but no one else did and you can see with hindsight that this effects him on a couple of occasions. Joe Lycett is a funny man and sends the sort of emails as part of his stand up that we all wish we were brave enough to send. Check out some clips of him if you have time. Hugh was in a series called Outnumbered, about a family where the child actors improvise most of their stuff. He was also a captain is Mock the Week. I don't know if you've seen any of that but it was one of our many panel shows. Lolly stars in Ghosts (the original UK version) and some of her co-stars crops up in later Taskmaster; the first of which in series 9. I am looking forward to the first team task. The dynamics of both teams are very different but equally good.
You need to check out The Big Fat Quiz sometime, both Mel, Joe and Noel have made several appearances on that pub quiz show hosted by Jimmy Carr...so funny. Greg has also been on the show once.
I wanna know something ChatLanders and David: Has anyone played/tried the TaskMaster VR game? It was released just this last year and I've been curious if anyone has enjoyed playing it.🤔☺️💚
You,and all of us,are in for a treat eith season four!!! Have you heard of the TV show Ghosts? There is a UK version and an American version. I had initially watched the US version .then came across it's original, across the pond, version. I wont say who else from Taskmaster is on thbshow but you are now meeting one of my favea...Lolli!!!!
Oh heck yeah, he's hilarious. Thankfully, like last season, I really like them all though. Hugh is kind of quiet, so it's taking me a little longer to get to know him, but a great crew!
@@DavidvsFilm Yeah Hugh has mellowed quite a bit after starting out in standup and become a very competent actor, Mel also started out doing standup with her partner Sue and now are both actor's and presenters.
One of the things I should add. Hugh and Greg are old friends. And like many of his friends who end up on the show he cares about the show, not the victory.
This is how I deal with favorites BC Roisin is my gurl. The one I'd be besties with just kickin' it laughing over the most ridiculous of things but also seems like she'd have tour back and throw down for you! Some friends are Silver some are Gold, these ones are new and some are old. It's okay to fall for more favorites .. Love/ Laughter multiplies not divides.💚😂 Ok ..now I sound mushy!!!
Hugh is correct!! Looking at me directly is very different than seeing me in a mirror!!! I'm on Hugh's side on this one!!!! His art is horrible tho, as if I can do any better .. I can't!😂😂😂😂
This is a great cast and season. Also another great reaction, I'm excited for what's to come. As an aside this might be my favourite Joe Lycett clip, it's from a live show he had. ruclips.net/video/UMUKoYysUXg/видео.htmlsi=PEtkcMtqdwin3WA0
You're going to *love* this season, I think! Mel is indeed adorable and, even today after so many seasons after S4, a fan favorite. But you're going to enjoy all the other 4 contestants a lot too! Also, a fun fact to add to the "Mel is one half of the original TGGBO presenters previous to Noel and other people": when this season of TM was being recorded, it was publicly known that Mel and Sue (and Mary Berry, the original judge along Paul Hollywood) had resigned to continue in TGGBO (who was at his hughest point of popularity at that point) because they didn't like how the producion team had dealt with the change of channel from BBC to Ch4. The production company made this change in a not very... honorable way, but to add insult to injury, presenters and judges found out about it at the same time as everybody else: on the press. It was a huge scandal at the time. What was *not* known by anyone at the time of this TM season recording was that Noel had already been hired to replace Mel. So, he spent the filming time having to hide that information from her... who is an old friend of him from the 90s (Mel and Sue and The Mighty Boosh started at the same time their careers in comedy and even shared dressing rooms in some tours). So, it probably wasn't very easy for him at the time (and knowing this, if you pay attention to him every time a Bake Off joke is directed at her during TM, you'll see him looking away and desengaging himself from the moment).
Mel is so great! He has her own show called Unforgivable on the Dave channel which is hilarious! The format is 3 celebrities tell true stories of things they've done that are unforgiveable, and Mel judges who is the worst. Some of the stories are truly outrageous!
@@DavidvsFilm yeah i know you figured out she is also "a baker" didnt see you figuring out that she is the original presenter of the great british bakeoff :the very one you recogniced noel from :P

Mel wasnt happy Noel won the price task because she had to go the extra mile to acquire those signatures while Noel was at the time working with David Suche so he might have just tossed the bean to David's room to have it signed. Or at least thats what Mel said on the Taskmaster podcast....
I really like this series. The only downside is it gradually becomes obvious that Greg is prejudiced against Hugh's educational background. Mel being positive is always a treat.
@@BlameThande Hugh and Mel were at Cambridge together at the same time so I'm not sure Greg's prejudice is educational 😄. Hugh is just this season's fall guy, each season has it's own, and Hugh owns the role well 😄

And we back and we back!!🎉🎉
Woohoo!!! 😁😁😁
5 of the lovliest people around. Enjoy. 😅
Thank you! Yeah they definitely seem like it. I like them!
Joe is hilarious and Mel has an epic task...she's great
Awesome, thank you!! So much to look forward to.
I feel really bad for Hugh, he's treated like a punching bag (sometimes deserved), but he looks so genuinely upset when Greg scores him low.
Taskmaster!!!
Yeeaaahhhh!!!!
I wanna know something ChatLanders and David:
Has anyone played/tried the TaskMaster VR game? It was released just this last year and I've been curious if anyone has enjoyed playing it.🤔☺️💚
You,and all of us,are in for a treat eith season four!!!
Have you heard of the TV show Ghosts? There is a UK version and an American version. I had initially watched the US version .then came across it's original, across the pond, version.
I wont say who else from Taskmaster is on thbshow but you are now meeting one of my favea...Lolli!!!!
You should watch Joe Lycett got your back
Hi mate, so glad you luv Joe
Oh heck yeah, he's hilarious. Thankfully, like last season, I really like them all though. Hugh is kind of quiet, so it's taking me a little longer to get to know him, but a great crew!
@@DavidvsFilm
Yeah Hugh has mellowed quite a bit after starting out in standup and become a very competent actor, Mel also started out doing standup with her partner Sue and now are both actor's and presenters.
Love/ Laughter multiplies not divides.💚😂
Ok ..now I sound mushy!!!
You’re going to absolutely love Mel! Also, I forgot Greg started off clean shaven. He has a full on beard now!
@@ianp1986 Oh you’re totally right! by the end of the episode I already do. 😁
As an aside this might be my favourite Joe Lycett clip, it's from a live show he had.

mel & joe are such delights🥰
People love this series but I think Greg's favouritism towards Noel and extreme bias against Hugh totally ruined it.
I think my own bias against Noel makes me less of a fan of this season, but I'm still excited to see you react to it!
Mel is so great! He has her own show called Unforgivable on the Dave channel which is hilarious! The format is 3 celebrities tell true stories of things they've done that are unforgiveable, and Mel judges who is the worst. Some of the stories are truly outrageous!
@@carlgibson285 Thank you!! Yeah I didn’t know her at first, but by the end of this episode I was already a fan. ♥️
Hi david how are you doing today?
@@DanielDeLeon69 doing good Daniel, thanks!! How are you?
@@DavidvsFilm I'm Doing good
i think if they used a celebrety thechances of the voice being recognized are way to high.
Ohhh yeah, that makes sense. Good point.
bit of an insult to mel there calling noel the baking guy :P
@@JohnDoe-xz1mw I didn’t know her when the video started!! 😬😳 But keep watching.. I find out.
@@DavidvsFilm yeah i know you figured out she is also "a baker" didnt see you figuring out that she is the original presenter of the great british bakeoff :the very one you recogniced noel from :P
@@JohnDoe-xz1mw Oh no, you’re right, I didn’t. Never watched the show actually, but I’ve seen clips of it from it. I didn’t see her, just Noel, a lady with glasses, and a white hair/beard guy.
@@DavidvsFilmI think you would love Bake Off. It’s a lovely, positive show, and the bakes look delicious.
Mel wasnt happy Noel won the price task because she had to go the extra mile to acquire those signatures while Noel was at the time working with David Suche so he might have just tossed the bean to David's room to have it signed. Or at least thats what Mel said on the Taskmaster podcast....
Calling it now, I predict Mel to be this seasons fav.
♥️♥️♥️ I’ve only watched the first two eps so far (watching the next 2 today), and you may just be right about that. 😁
Mel's positivity may get an honorary mention later in the series.
Hugh is just this season's fall guy, each season has it's own, and Hugh owns the role well 😄
I honestly think this is one of the weakest opening episodes of any series, but the series itself and Noel Fielding in particular are definitely a favorite of all-time.
Hey well you know I'm a relatively easy sell anyway, but that makes me even happier hearing this. Thanks!
