Isn't it a pleasure to interview a writer with an actual personality? Strong viewpoints and something to say...love him or not, Harlan never disappoints.
WOW. incredible interview. 'i'm telling you this, when you get to be 80, it's not easy folks...you are somewhere between 80 and death.' i gotta share this and more harlan with my son. smart as a whip that young man is. and a big sci fi fan. he can also quote lengthy passages of poe. ;)
I love the discussion about how he doesn't know how the stories come out so good. I've done the same thing and they ended up published! The subconscious mind is facinating.
GREAT interview! Fascinating from front to back, but the "Rolling Stone" anecdote -- about the time Ellison toured with "The Rolling Stones" -- because now I can vividly imagine Ellison, pissed off by the behaviour of the unnamed band member, and resolving the issue (this took place during the late 19'60s/early '70s, and since Wyman, Watts and Jagger were mentioned, I keep picturing Keith Richards) with a knife at his throat. It might've been Jones, but...Richards seems like the safe bet.
Jeez it sounds like Harlan's talking to the freaking Monolith.

I totally agree.
He's a jewel.
Raw honesty, respect for his readers / listeners, all those core qualities on show. No bullshit. Love it.
He is right on.
"You have to keep your chops working" so true Harlan. What a privilege to listen to you.
You Will Never Be Forgotten! ❤️
A wonderful interview! I could listen to Mr. Ellison ramble on all day.

"I've been a show-off all my life," Harlan says. Me too, dude.
Thank you for this.
Oh BTW, the game expansion of I Have no Mouth, and I must Scream is excellent.
"I am a Scream, and I Have No Mouth"
Sind scherze nur?
Glorious.
I wish he was paying me money to type this right now as I am trademarking it. ;)
Harlan looks like Gollum now.
blow it off.
