I've found this role works *extremely* well in PvE board games with a lot of fiddly bits and rules with frequent edge-cases. I fill this role every time my group gets together to play Gloomhaven.
Is this somewhat an indictment on what might be too much admin and difficulty inherent in Gloomhaven? Who could say, really, but it has made the experience more engaging for my players and kept me engaged and having fun as well :)
I've also seen that with most of Leder Games' titles this is frequently warranted, as they have pretty low "fun" player counts to begin with and it just helps keep the game flowing smoothly while allowing less of a chance that someone completely checks out an hour in since they fell off the complexity wagon after turn 2.
