    One of nicest Stravinsky compositions.

    Although not prominent in this recording, 2:00 is one of the greatest Bass jams ever. (to a non-bass player)

    Sounds so much like Rite of Spring

      There are few later Stravinsky works that do so, but this indeed does hearken back to the Rite.

    wow.. this might be the first time I see Solti slow down due to stiff technique.! he's normally so energetic....what was going on then, i wonder?

      This is a very difficult score ,maybe more than " Sacre.." I' ve listened Solti live with same piece,but with LSO. He was concentrated the same way, and less comunicative than usual...

      He also takes a bit slower tempi then the score requires. I miss energy in the music. I suspect he should have rehearsed more.

      @@mozartmahler61 this score is way easier than sacre, actually, speaking of experience

      @@renep9968 well, energy in stravinsky is imperative, but nobody misses more energy in classical music these days as that I mostly all young conductors can offe

      He always conducted with stiff arms, driven from bent elbows. Look at the famous footage of him conducting the legendary Ring recordings in the late 50s/ early 60s- you'll notice he conducted the same way, even as a young man.

    why the lid closed on the piano? It needs to breathe air and sonority But Solti is amazing interjects and extracts sound from every player/instrument twinning

    • @and7barton
      @and7barton Год назад

      I suspect that during sound checks prior to the concert, the piano might have been considered to be overwhelming the sound balance in some way. Note- The lid hasn't been entirely closed. Maybe its volume has been precisely adjusted using the lid ?

      The sound of the piano is indeed too subdued in the tutti. It's not heard. Other than that, a wonderful performance.

      A raised lid would have blocked the view of the conductor for some players.
