Hi Crystal! I'm Jamaican, living in Austria 5+ years now. While I do miss Jamaica and the US (Florida too), I love Austria and have only had good experiences in almost 35 years of experience. Although in some towns there are more "melanated" people, we are a novelty, hence the staring. Hope you will decide to come back. Tirol is really great...so please reach out if you come back this way.
By being in the Air Force for 20 years…my son and I lived in Germany for 10 years…and he still calls it home because I raised him there from the age of 3 years…It took some getting use to…but would go back in a heartbeat… Austria is a beautiful place…been there a couple of times…Holland!!! Yes the windmills are beautiful…We loved our travels in Europe…I thank God I was able to give my son that life experience…👠👠👠
Crystal!!! They love our babies!!! And they probably thought you were stunningly beautiful!!! Believe it or not!!! I was treated like a Queen with my son!!! They were admiring you!!! Please take it from me…I’m the same shade as you…They love us…👠👠👠
I was born in South Africa and I have been living in Austria for about 40 years. Austria has become my second home , I have and still interact with many open minded Austrians. Of course negative incidents occur , as we are all not the same. Not everyone has been exposed or experienced different cultures and people. Austria is a beautiful country, so many amazing historical sights and cultural activities. I'm sorry to hear about your negative experiences. There were some memorable moments as seen on your video.
I am an African American woman, and ironically my stepdad is German. I have traveled all over the world, and the staring is sometimes curiosity, not hostility. I never expect to see a lot of “us” in European countries. In fact, I don’t go looking for us in these countries that I visit. The point for me to visit different places is to see different people. However, when I do see us, I’m happy, especially when we talk, and they tell me how they like living in such and such a country. I’m the, “When in Rome, do as the Romans Do”, type of person, so I always get invited back to whatever country I visit. I lived in Italy for 4 years and traveled to different parts of Europe from there too. I never experienced hostility, but then I never set my mindset as to expect any. Of course, there are pockets of places that no one should go to, even white people. Of course, there is racism. Heck, Austria birthed one of the biggest racists the world has ever known. Germany, interesting enough has laws, where they can’t even mention (celebrate) Hitlers name or have propaganda celebrating that era. They have museums that talk about WWII. So remember, this is a country that has a turbulent history already. I hope this trip doesn’t discourage you from traveling to other places in Europe. You’ll be surprised of what you might find and experience.
When I hear stories about people feeling uncomfortable on a vacation it makes me not want to visit. I need to get over that fear but I am glad that people share their experiences so it will not be a surprise.
I actually check travelling videos of black people going to different countries to see their experiences. I also had a gfriend who has family in Austria but not in Vienna who she visited and said it was okay because she was with them . And a guy friend of mine who's friends had him over but not Vienna. He said it was okay too. But like I said not Vienna. After watching Crystal's vid , I went to go and check about 5 other vids of black people who specifically was in Vienna , the one girl grew up there and they all had the same experience as Crystal. The girl that grew up there said some of the older people were ,very what people would say in my language 'Verkramp' like set In their bigoted ways. They all describe the same behaviours. So, I think Vienna isn't very open to black people. My thing I always do your research first not just the scenery but the people aswell. Do you want to use your hard earned cash to be treated like nothing
Crystal didn't say Americans must not travel. She was telling us about her own experience, which the majority of non-white people go through when they are in racist countries.
@@snoodysnoody8118 Just do your research. Just because it's Europe doesn't mean it's all racist or unsafe.. There are countries in Africa, that you shouldn't travel to also. So just because you see "familiar" looking people, doesn't mean it's all good. And if you want a list of places to go in Africa, let me know😉
I expect to return to Germany in the next year. I couldn't figure things out when I first arrived there some years ago. However, after three weeks I figured it out and understood why many Americans would never come back to the USA. Yes, some folks stare, but that's not a problem for me. Folks like us have been in Europe for centuries. We are not an oddity. Current events however shares that there are racial issues, so that's not a surprise. I entered Austria via Tyrol. That is where the Swarovski factory is. That tour made me feel as if I were in Heaven. I loved it. I travelled further into the town and came across a number of stores that reminded me of my childhood in N Y, that no longer exist. Following travel expert Rick Steve's advice, we hired a cab, and we got the actual one Rick Steves recommended, and we toured Vienna. We toured Mozart's home and learned of his extensive history which was probably portrayed in the movie Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. We then attended a fabulous concert at the Vienna Opera House. At the bakery we purchased Sacher torte. It was wonderful. I've travelled from Berlin to Bavaria and to a town near the Black Forest. most Black folks you see in Europe are not American and these people do not consider themselves Black. They identify only with the country in which they were born. I did have two rude issues in Germany and two rude issues in France. Neither of those issues would prevent me from returning. I'll just be more prepared. The way to correct the issues is to be able to speak in the language where you are and that changes everything. Europe is beautiful. The oldest Christkindl markets are 1,100 years old, and there's nothing like them in the world. There is one in Helena, Ga, and it pales in comparison. I think there's one in Washington State and one in the middle north of the country like Wisconsin, Minnesota, or Michigan. I will have to check. There is also one in Texas in the Austin area. The world should be at peace so that more folks would be willing to explore countries they learned about in Geography and World History class.
Well said. A lot of Europe (at least the older folks) get their info about Blacks from the media (coming out of the US). If you try to speak their language just a little, even screwing it up, I find Europe just opens up to you. Again.... research. The people say the French are rude, even white people say that. The thing is the French are very "closed". They are not as aggressively friendly as Americans or as loud. They're subtle, they have boundaries, and we may see that as rude. It's just like America. New York, is very in-your-face, Utah has a totally different vibe.
I would love to hear your girls sing, I'm pretty sure they have a beautiful voice together. Crystal I wish you and your family a blessed and a wonderful New year. 🙏💐💯
I lived in Germany 🇩🇪 three times in my life in different cities, Aschaffenburg, thats were Elvis Pressley was stationed, Frankfurt, and Pirmasens. You should of gotten some of their Velvetta Cheese and the mustard, Bratwurst and Hellmans mayonaisse. So good 😋 I loved it ❤❤❤ Definitely a culture shock. Munich has the Ocktober Fest thats nice its a festival held in the month of October.😊
Hi Crystal, I too noticed the same behaviour in Copenhagen Denmark. It might be helpful to share these experiences with local tourism boards or organizations that can work towards improving the situation.❤
That's right, Mama! The family is going to Austria. We are all going baby girl. Not even a question... what a blessing! Edit: I am so sorry the people were not welcoming. Sometimes... SMH
Hi Crystal, Thank you for sharing your journey with us. Your children are simply beautiful! I teared up along with you regarding your girls singing together because these unexpected surprises are so amazing! I'm sorry that you experienced a frightening situation with the bus driver as this could of ended up very differently. Thank God for covering you, your children and everyone on that bus! Your right the Cathedrals look beautiful, I could only imagine in person. You picked some meaningful gifts! Glad you and your family were able to experience this vacation together and most importantly, a safe return home. Keep shining queen!❤
Hello, thank you for sharing happy you enjoyed your trip. Awesome for the children to get a chance to spend time in a different Country. Loved the sound of music. ❤🙏🏾
Beautiful, historical architecture. Thank you for sharing. It takes curiosity and courage to travel across the world. This planet is OURS. I am guessing that most of the white people weren't used to seeing a black QUEEN and her BEAUTIFUL children. As far as babies go? Did you see very many at the sites you visited. I think they are more apt to leave them home. Travelers with the patience and energy to travel with babies and small children are likely a rare site. I think it came down to you were "a rare siting". Ha! When ever people act weird, I will lean into the positive because it makes ME happy. Those people that "go there" are reflecting outwards whats going on inwards and what sad little lives they live.
Hi, I enjoyed your trip with you all. Thanks for sharing, very proud of the great job, lovely young lady. Great job, mom, and a great job being a big bother 💙
Thank you so much for sharing your trip Crystal !! 🤗 Austria is Beautiful !!! So picturesque. Its unfortunate about the people. Glad you all are home safely ❣
Hello Beautiful Crystal and Beautiful Family. I certainly enjoyed your video. I kept pausing it to take in the sites and your narration of the different places visited on your trip. I can feel the excitement of the trip and I wish to thank you because you made me feel like I came along on the trip.
You are a OWESOME mom PLUS PROUD mom. Crystal when I met you after doing my hair, i knew and felt you were a great person etc. I am sooo happy for you. You have great children and they are a reflection of you. GOD BLESS. You are OWESOME!!!
Im sorry you felt uncomfortable while in Europe. Do not let that stop you and your family from seeing the world. Do not let anyone have power over your energy. Now I want to watch every documentary about Franz Joseph and cousin wife. This is all very intriguing. My boyfriend (he is brasilian) played Captain Von Trapp (Father/Captain in the musical Sound of Music). With that said, my love for christmas and his love of the musical looks like Christmas will be in Austra next year. I am looking forward to future vlogs Happy New Year to you and your family. Much love from Buffalo NY #Billsmafia
I’m glad you and the family had a safe trip, but yes I heard that Rome, Italy was the same way, it make me very upset that we as brown skin people still have to go through this and yet they come to America and we are very ACCEPTING of all. I’m just glad y’all made it home safely.
Congratulations. Congratulations. How cool to be traveling with ALL your kiddos in Europe. And to have your girls perform together; truly memorable for them. As for the bus tour driver --- WTH?! And as for the stareing ot lack of human decency or lack of home training or whatever, that's very disturbing! There's an Elite Hair Care Austrian follower in the comments who thought YOU got it wrong about the people of the country and I have to disagree. If anyone, regardless of language is peering at another in FEAR or DERISION, anger or mistrust THAT emotion is being translated. Because the eyes are the window of the soul; she would've FELT invited. But they obviously didn't smile with their eyes OR part their Austrian lips and say in their language " How are you? "Where are you from? Are you enjoying our lovely country?" But NO. And I have to say this, DAMN the internet is a THING, lol, she was with two children walking around, so why the stares and glares?! You don't have to be Austrian to FEEL like an outsider. And she couldn't utilize Google translate because no one approached her with kindness to even inquire in whatever language they spoke to meet her. And this is a Black woman who's spending her COINS in their country, with ALL FOUR of her children. So, there's that tidbit. The Sound of Music the movie music is soooo iconic and incredible. And so many incredible performances throughout the film. I echo everyone in the comments when I add my voice of gratitude of YOU sharing your experiences with us. It's most helpful. Happy 2024!!!❤❤😮
Dear Crystal, I really like you as a person and LOVE you for your positive energy, but I am also a proud Austrian and I think you got it wrong about the people: in Austria the majority is caucasion and we are simply not used to see much people of colour in our sorrounding! That is why we sometimes "stare". Especially at babys because we find them so cute 🥰!
You hardly see us there, because your elites ran us out! And it's sooo funny how you say your people don't see much of our kind around a lot...But mighty funny We SEE you all, all up and down in OUR countries.
I agree with you. I am black and love traveling to other countries. Wherever I am, if people stare , I make what you said the reason before I attribute it to anything else. You could visit America in some places and get treated the same because they would not be accustomed to being around non black people. In America we intentionally and by choice segregate ourselves unlike your country where many just aren’t there. So try not to take it personal and someday I hope to visit your country to see it’s beauty and learn about it’s history and culture.
I am so sorry they treated you like that. The old world countries with small bergs, are isolated and everyone k owns each other. Apparently strangers are not welcome. I hope the rest of your vacation wasn’t ruined. Your daughter and your other children got a once in a lifetime vacation. Welcome back home.❤
Hey Crystal, good morning! Looking at the little women, they've grown so much and they are beautiful! I can't believe how much Christian has grown, he's a cutie and he's going to mature into a handsome man. Baby C is absolutely adorable and I'm here for the cooing! Unfortunately, Germany has not progressed and that's too bad because it's really beautiful. Thank you for sharing with us. Too bad you didn't take a few JESSE OWENS T-shirts with you! 🤣 They want to hold onto the teachings and propaganda of Hitler, I would have let Jesse be a gentle and silent reminder that holding on to hate and prejudice is a kick in the a$$! I'm sorry Christian had to see such a thing! My son was about the same age when we went to a restaurant in South San Francisco. I'm from California (Oakland) and I didn't know they got down like that! The Sound of Music is one of my favorite movies. I watch it often. I recently found a movie that's based on the oldest daughter, it's called Von Trapp, I'm going to watch it soon, if you can, check it out. I believe it's on Prime Video.
Glad you enjoyed the trip for the most part. You should be very proud of your girls. What an amazing experience for them. There are just places in the world where there aren't a lot of blacks, just as I'm sure there are some parts of Africa where there are not a lot of whites. There wouldn't be as many blacks in America if we weren't brought here as slaves.
I heard other Black Americans being stared at when going to certain countries . My anxiety is too bad for that . On the bright side, it looks like a beautiful place.
Yes the cultural challenge is real. My daughter is a flight attendant and has experienced the gazing and double takes 1st hand. But I'm glad you held your head high and owned the room🎉
Beautiful Crystal and Family ❤. I hate to comment on racial profiling but as a Black person that would like to one day travel to Europe but I’m apprehensive about it as a Black person. I love sightseeing and experiencing other cultures but I don’t want to do it with people staring at me which will make me so uncomfortable.
People will sometimes look at you because they are curious. I would walk up and say hello, in their language, and next thing you know you made a new friend. Don;t always think the worst of people. I am over 60, Black, female. I travel alone and have never had a problem.
Went to Grrmany twice, during the 90s...mainly to visit a friend, who was living in Germany at the time (she's now back in the UK). Remembering the clean streets, which was usual to see, as I've never seen streets so clean...BUT never, ever will I visit Germany again. The reception we received from many living over there, was despicable, to say the least. 1st time experiencing racism, full on, and the folks wasn't even trying to disguise it either. One scenario, I was faced with, was when the party I went with, booked to go from West to East Berlin and our passports were required. All but one had full 10 year passports, the one with a 1 year passport were interrogated, for over an hour, simply because her face didn't look like her photo, (which was black and white, in those days). The security staff wasn't interested when we tried to tell them she was who she said she was, and as we wouldn't leave her, we didn't make it over the Berlin Wall, until the early hours of the next morning 😢😮. If it wasn't for excursions and the party of friends, I went with, plus new friends I encountered, the trip would have been a total disaster for me. The trip taught me something though....never make assumptions that racism doesn't exist...because it does. I don't let it get to me, in life, certainly ain't gonna change my skin colour or personality to please folk....so therefore, they will need to deal with it😊😊😊
My nieces lives in Germany …….she married a young man from Germany!!! She is a photographer and post the most magical pictures! It is a gorgeous place! I am sorry they were ugly to you all!
I feel so sorry for your children. Using them for social media fame while they are not old enough to consent should be a crime an I hope it is when they are old enough to sue you.
I went decades ago. I didn’t see anyone Black, so got lots of stares. Never bothered me. I remember whites coming to my all black neighborhood and people would stare at them. I looked different in a foreign country. They had never seen a Black person except on TV. No big deal. They didn’t try to attack or call me names. They weren’t friendly, but then neither am I. My major complaint was the food. Not very tasty. I have no plans of returning.

I ask for your safe return home but so happy you enjoyed your daughter's singing God bless you and your family ❤
Congratulations! Happy Happy!
Your Baby C is such a Cutie Patootie! 😁 Thanks for sharing your experience!
Baby c is so handsome and you have a beautiful family
Dear Crystal, I really like you as a person and LOVE you for your positive energy, but I am also a proud Austrian and I think you got it wrong about the people: in Austria the majority is caucasion and we are simply not used to see much people of colour in our sorrounding! That is why we sometimes "stare". Especially at babys because we find them so cute 🥰!
As a black Austrian I can tell you confidently that she did NOT get it wrong about them. They are known to be generally racist. It is what it is
You hardly see us there, because your elites ran us out!
Stare and smiling or staring in disgust and annoyance? We can tell when people are staring at us in annoyance and/or disgust…like cmon.
We all know that Europeans are getting their views of Black people from the racist negativity on news…so stop being ignorant.
Hi, thank you for sharing. You have a beautiful family. Some people are very narrow minded in different parts of the world. Love your souvenirs.❤
Loved this experience through your eyes.❤
He Is Soooo Cute. Kidnappable!!! Adorable!!!

Crystal you have a Beautiful Family and Cassim have gotten sooo big
You should Always be that proud mother cheer on your as we all should 🎉😊❤
Salzburg is in Austria, not Germany. The uncomfortable feeling you had on your short trip, we have all our life. Nice you came around. 🤗
That is so awesome crystal.
The baby is soooo stinking cute! 🥰

The scenery is beautiful 🎉
They call ham bacon. If you wantwhat Americans eat you ask for streaky bacon crispy. I have been to Europe twice but never Germany.
I love Christian’s braid.
Thanks for sharing, we were there with you for those uncomfortable moments.
❤ baby 🍼 C is too cute !
It was amazing
Julie Andrew's played in the the sound of music movie.
My dream trip, I want to visit the Sisi Museum.
I love your video, just subscribed.
bonne fin d annèe à vous deux et gros bisous💞💞💞💞
Thanks Crystal, very interesting
I heard other Black Americans being stared at when going to certain countries . My anxiety is too bad for that . On the bright side, it looks like a beautiful place.
Omg he is so cute ❤❤❤
I am so happy for your young lady's ❤❤❤
LOVE the pen!!!!
Yes the cultural challenge is real.
My daughter is a flight attendant and has experienced the gazing and double takes 1st hand.
But I'm glad you held your head high and owned the room🎉
Beautiful Family and
your Baby is handsome as ever ❤
Super everything🎉🎉🎉👏👏👏
Christian is very handsome too❤.
❤😊❤
Beautiful Crystal and Family ❤. I hate to comment on racial profiling but as a Black person that would like to one day travel to Europe but I’m apprehensive about it as a Black person. I love sightseeing and experiencing other cultures but I don’t want to do it with people staring at me which will make me so uncomfortable.
People will sometimes look at you because they are curious. I would walk up and say hello, in their language, and next thing you know you made a new friend. Don;t always think the worst of people. I am over 60, Black, female. I travel alone and have never had a problem.
I hope that you get a chance to go back…I truly do miss living there…👠👠👠
We all know the sound of music movie.
The world is still Unlearned. 😏💯
Your hair is sharp
Girl!!! You are beautiful!!!👠👠👠
I feel so sorry for your children. Using them for social media fame while they are not old enough to consent should be a crime an I hope it is when they are old enough to sue you.
Crystal, you look so beautiful; what products are you using on your face?❤
I went decades ago. I didn’t see anyone Black, so got lots of stares. Never bothered me. I remember whites coming to my all black neighborhood and people would stare at them. I looked different in a foreign country. They had never seen a Black person except on TV. No big deal. They didn’t try to attack or call me names. They weren’t friendly, but then neither am I. My major complaint was the food. Not very tasty. I have no plans of returning.
