The ignorant, drug use, sexist culture is rewarded. Intellect is not respected by the puppet masters. The young cats will sell their souls for any buck and fame. Not because they hit you with crazy time signatures and shredding guitars, but because they can literally play anything at any time with almost no prep time ON TOP of putting out amazing original music. I had to check this out just because I wanted to see what's going to take y'all 45 min to react to. Now I know. I watched the whole thing. There was a lot there to break down. Good job at the dissection, inspection, and relevance of the material. It seems most comments are 1) react to (......), 2) y'all should've done Loaded Lux, 3) Black Thought flow and length of time made this freestyle epic. (Which it was EPIC!) What's not being commented on is the truth spoke. ONE (not the only) recurring theme he addressed is that we won't elevate ourselves collectively when individually we relish in foolishness. The foolishness of promoting garbage. Whether the garbage is music, thought, talk, actions, desires, etc. Is this movement we're on (individually) into our own gilded cage or is it into our own personal enlightenment?

  • @dontliethetruth

    for those of y'all who wonder whether the freestyle was pre-written or to what extent it may have been. first of all, think about how likely it is to completely remember a 10 min. rap you don't rehearse like yer bands regular songs, done fluently to a beat you haven't heard beforehand... so i recall asking a german rapper once how you come up with all this stuff in an instant. he answered by asking back how i do it on guitar (freestyling on the guitar is called improvisation) and i told him you internalise phrases and riffs, i.e. add them to your own repertoire, by practising a lot and listen to other solos/improvs for inspiration. he replied 'well that's pretty much how you learn to freestyle, after enough time of doing it, you acquire a set of figures of speech you can fire off at any moment and the rest you construct around that on the spot'

      for a rapper at black thoughts level memerizing a 10 min written and then performing it to one of the most iconic beats isnt a crazy thing. much more likely than something this complex and long being totally off the dome. still insanely impressive and one of my favorite raps ive ever heard, especially considering the perfect lyricism and the breath control, but very likely not off the dome

    • @df3kt
      @df3kt Год назад

      I rap I am not great but I can freestyle pretty well. A good friend of mine and a lot of people I know are very good. Coming off the top isn't really that hard but you can always tell and no matter what you are always gonna say things you have wrote or said before. Also if you are really coming off the top you will have some set up lines especially if you go for 10 mins. This was definitely a written to some degree in fact some lines are in some of his songs in some capacity. With that said this is far more impressive than any freestyle. The reason it is so impressive is because I think he was just kinda going with lines he might have had arranged for something like this. Which idgaf who you are sputting for 10 mins straight on demand and never messing up at all and delivering the whole thing super on point is just unbelievable. Ask any Mc too freestyling isn't really that difficult especially if people understand it is off the top because you are gonna fall off. However writing is so much more difficult. I can freestyle all day but I can't write for shit. You could give me a lifetime and I could never write something like this and do it at anytime. So basically these lines are all pre written at some point that he probably just came in and started spitting and mixed it up with some freestyling as well. The dude is one of the best ever! Even if he wrote all of this and rehearsed it a 1000 times beforehand it is still super impressive.

    After I first heard the Funk Flex Freestyle (last month) that Black Thought spat greatness on, I repeated it maybe 30 times a day for many days. That's how impeccable his lyricism is. I knew about BT years before he rapped this Funk Flex freestyle. As a young kid and adolescent, I was always listening to the lyrical greats in my crib. That's how I got started with poetry 10 years ago when I was 12. I have been writing ever since that age as a poet. "They tried to capture me and brand me on the cheek
    With a fleur-de-lis" referring to runaway slaves who were re-captured, subjected to punishment and afterwards were branded with the sign of the fleur-de-lis (mainly in Louisiana). In terms, everyone would know of their actions and punishment also, if they were to be sold or traded other slave masters or slavers would know. And now people brand (tattoo) themselves happily with the symbol.

    I'm impressed that you cats knew most of the analogies being used. It speaks to your intelligence as well....felt like I was back in school learning all over again!

    I absolutely hate reaction videos. this isnt a reaction video its a class. I love that you broke down everything down quite eloquently. I bumped into this trying to find other MC's reactions or the talking about it. The way you dig into was fuckin dope. Thank you! back to listening
