Hey Darcizzle and Puddin the hole in the second ribbon fish that you caught was made by a sea lamprey, which is an ell like parasite fish which attached itself to a fish and suck it to death sometimes.
We catch them here in Galveston all the time biggest ive ever caught was over 5ft always considered them a trash fish that will trash your mono with those teeth! My tae kwon do instructor was from korea and he would swear by them as good eating so i would give them to him!
I hate to say it (not really) but,, I told you they was good! Now I know they catch ribbonfish off of the boats around here, but how we catch them off the pier is a variety of lures. During the day we mostly catch them on metal jigs,, like Big Nics Spanish Candy, or diamond jigs, but have also caught them on trout lures (jighead with a grub body). But the most common way they are caught off the pier is using an underwater light with a 6" steel leader under it with a 2/0 hook with cut bait. After you catch the first ribbonfish, cut the tail section off where it's about an inch across and put it on the hook for your next cut bait. But from what I've been told, you really need to scape off the "chrom" color on their skin. It's supposed to contain mercury. Now maybe that's just for our area,, but the ones that told me are the ones that fish for them the most,, the Asians.
dear darcizzle you called them ribbon fish over there and here in Australia we call them hair tail as their tail trail off to what looks like some hair
One trick to keep the flys away while you’re cleaning fish, put a small fan (battery or corded) next to your table top. Flies cannot hover around with a slight breeze.
Never have I ever trolled for Cutlass. I fish Galveston and our normal size is the size of your second one. The first one was a King Cutlass! The make great Kingfish bait on a three hook leader just flat lined or trolled.
One day when my wife and I get some ribbon fish, I’ll have her cook it like they do in China. You must cut them in steaks for you waste a lot of meat the very hard fillet it’s better just to cut them and stay and eat them that way I’ll send you a video when we prepare it like that.
Holy cow! The Mrs and I were just talking about 'do people eat ribbon-fish?' when y'all caught some, recently. Excellent knife skills on the cleaning. We catch them a lot in the Galveston and Surfside area. I'm glad you were adventurous enough to try them.
Hello Darcizzle and Puddin, in Europe we find them in the Mediterranean Sea also and they name it "poisson sabre" (sabre fisch) At the island of Madera (Atlantic ocean) they are black as the night and they call them " Pesce Spada. They cook them with banana's. Cool video's guys. Kind regards from Belgium.
That's pretty cool. Used to catch them by the dozens in south Texas on white bucktail jigs. Never ate one, used them for bait. Even worked great for catfish on trotlines at the lake.
I presently live in Dalian China and the ribbon fish is eaten here on a regular basis. Most people find them delicious. They are prepared here whole, head and all, which is very common in Chinese cuisine.
Way to go catching some ribbonfish with the RUclipsr tackle box!! That's gotta be the wildest-looking fish anybody has caught using that tackle box so far! Thank you for handing the tackle box down to me, I can't wait to film an epic adventure with it!!
Hi darcizzle! Last week, on your Brag Board on Facebook, you shouted me out and I got the picture, bracelet, sticker, and inspiration! I love your videos!
Brian I am glad she isn’t in her bikini. I love her fishing and that’s what this video should be about and if you have to draw people in like that they aren’t watching her talent fishing.❤
We have been catching ribbon-fish the last couple of summers while bottom fishing in about 60-100 feet near shore fishing for flounder and sea bass, out of Indian River Inlet, DE. Size-to about 3 ft or so. I'm not sure of the range for this species. They just showed up in summer a couple of years ago in our waters. Our kids love catching them. They taste pretty good, but are a PITA to fillet IMO. Keep up the great content.
I was born and raised in SE Fl and have seen quite a few of the ribbon fish caught (usually if they catch one they catch a mess of them) but never heard of anyone cleaning and eating them. When I was a kid I seem to remember they would head up a canal and stack up to the point the water seemed to boil with them.
Great lookin' paints Darcizzle LOOKIN' GOOD! Brian show those seasonings a little slower I like the way you cook all your fish, you give me good ideas on how to change things up in my fish cooking.
Puddin, is going to be in the doghouse for that remark. I don't think I need to repeat it you know what one you said that yourwifedid not care for, I think I'm about an hour and a half drive from you guys but you could probably stay one or two nights at my house the rest here on your own . Luv you 💓 guys !
Are they fish that are from Florida? I'm a commercial fisherman and I have never caught one. The ocean 10 days at a time. That's not counting having fun taking my father out fishing. Great job guys never seen that fish before ever
When I lived in China with the eat ribbonfish there and they would Cut them into orange steaks you Brian I need to remove the top boards and it’s almost like that comb for your hair pulled off the bottom and top and then it pretty much full in the middle on both sides has bones that stick out like spikes we just gotta be careful when you eat it they don’t poke your lips but they’re so easy to eat.
Landshark and Brooke said they were mushy fish and made fish patties out of them. They were not soft and bony? Good content anyways. It will be interesting ( even if we don't get to see it) where the tackle box goes and then finally ends up
@Jordan R No run down the back canal. It was part of all this trash fish episodes. Showing people you can pretty much eat anything but a sucker fish. As Bluegabe found out. Deermeat and Kelly Young wouldn't even try it.
Maybe they didn't ice them that day. Who frigging knows. I watch videos. 2 months from selling my house and coming for a tuna/ lobster til I puke it out my nose. The price for what you dream about is astronomical. You'll just take it for granted
@Jordan R Nothing personal. I'm going to need help. Alot different than a bass or trout. Dude the biggest 2 fishes I ever caught were trout in a dryed up creek. 36- 37 one was a female with roe. I have chartered a couple boats. So I caught and filled my freezer with rock cod. Never have I ever caught my fish of choice .
Damn Puddin🏳️🌈…. If Your Not Gonna Fix Her Grille… Let Me Startup A GO FUND ME Page For D’s Fans To Help Hook Her Up. That, And Also A Nail & Tanning Salon… Where She Can Stop Looking Like An Oompa Loompa. Let’s Face It… “Most” Don’t Watch The Channel Because Of Her Great Angler Skills. Darcizzle always fire, but Puddin was killin it with the jokes today 🤣

I'm convinced all salt water fish taste good minus hard heads when cooked correctly.
Never have I ever trolled for Cutlass. I fish Galveston and our normal size is the size of your second one. The first one was a King Cutlass! The make great Kingfish bait on a three hook leader just flat lined or trolled.
Thank you for sharing. God bless you both and your whole family...🙏❤🙏❤🙏😊🙂😀

Just found out yesterday I've been hunting and fishing with your uncle in S.C. for the last 15 years.
I recall that for years the Jacksonville Greater Kingfish Tournament was always needing ribbonfish for anglers to troll for the 'winning fish'.
Ribbon fih is better than snapper my grandmother use to fry it all the time when I was growing up in carribbean
Brian, you should buy a bus so you have something to throw Sizzle under.
We call it cutlass fish in Trinidad and my grandmother would fry that up it was better than snapper
Love you both. Thanks for the great videos
I like the reel.
I presently live in Dalian China and the ribbon fish is eaten here on a regular basis. Most people find them delicious. They are prepared here whole, head and all, which is very common in Chinese cuisine.
When I was a teenager, my dad and I caught them in Pensacola. They were about 3 or 4 feet long. They were eating fish were trying to land.
Way to go catching some ribbonfish with the RUclipsr tackle box!! That's gotta be the wildest-looking fish anybody has caught using that tackle box so far! Thank you for handing the tackle box down to me, I can't wait to film an epic adventure with it!!
