  • One of the best ways to learn Samoan is to just dive in and begin communicating with Samoan speakers.
    Marlena is here (with her son Denzel) to teach us a few useful words and phrases for when you're just beginning to speak Samoan.
    We call these 'toolbox language' because they're words and phrases that should be in every language learner's toolbox.

    Teach me I need to brush up

    Hello. In our school, we have students from different nationalities, among those a couple of Samoans. I want to write a welcome message in different languages but I don't want to do it incorrectly. Could you help me? I would really appreciate it!
    Welcome back to school. we are so happy to see you again!
    Toe fo'i mai ile aoga. matou te fiafia tele e toe feiloa'i!

    • @anavatau
      @anavatau  2 года назад +2

      Hi Harold. Apologies for the late reply. You've done great so far with your welcome message...I would just make a few changes:
      Fa'atalofa atu! Matou te fiafia lava e toe fa'afeiloa'i atu ia te outou!
      Quick explanation: "Toe fo'i mai..." is an imperative statement, not a welcome... "fa'atalofa atu" is not reeeally a welcome either (it's more of a warm hello), but we use it here because our Samoan words for welcome are too formal and not suitable for addressing students.
      Please let me know if you any other questions. :)

    how to say calm down in samoan

    • @anavatau
      @anavatau  2 года назад

      "Ko'a filemu' is the generally accepted way to say 'calm down'...or you could say 'ko'a mai lalo'. Malōlō means rest, or relax...but with the right tone (i.e. annoyed? concerned?) you can also use malōlō to mean something like, 'give it a rest'.
