Victoria Mullova ...fantastica ...gifted .....superba ......

Technically amazing. Not one pitch problem. Amazing bowing technique. Bringing out all the bass lines and counterpoints with total ease (except at around 9:10), almost organ-like. As of now (2016) in my opinion the most accomplished performer of the S&P, having learnt from the brutality of Gidon Kremer, and from Alexander Goebel's tuning, using natural gut strings and the Guarneri to great effect. Already in this one, she uses the acoustic characteristics of the venue to carry the sound as far and transparently as it gets. If anything, this has become even better now. Precisely because of her austerity and precision, which some here comment as "cold", which it is not, I have experienced her recordings as the most satisfying.

Thanks for sharing this masterful interpretation. So significant that this presentation has been played in Leipzig, where the work of J. S. Bach genius progressed, and where he also completed and showed for the first time this piece.

Powerful playing. Intense concentration.I really liked it. Regardless of who's playing, Bach always emerges as the awesome one. Thankfully so!!

Bach would be so honoured to see Viktoria Mullova's renditions of his compositions. She says she had problems with Bach, but opened herself to the insights of other artists to find entrance to his work, and she found her way.
    She is so magnificently gifted.

I also find Szeryng's playing of Bach to be very fine. I owned his vinyl version of these pieces for years (at least one of them; he may have recorded multiple versions as have Mullova and Milstein). Gradually I came to prefer more austere readings such as Milstein's. Then there's Rachel Podger whose emphasis of the lighter dance elements is most illuminating. In Bach as in most music there is no definitive recording.
Yet for me right now, it's Mullova.

it's technically clean, but it's as emotional as hearing someone practice... Please, listen to Perlman.

    • @trijezdci4588
      @trijezdci4588 7 лет назад +4

Perlman plays the Chaconne as if it was a Paganini carpice. Most horrible. Only Heifetz did it worse. Bach isn't about showmanship.

    • @musicclassic5938

Sorry, Perlman like many other musicians of Jewish origin do not know how to play Bach properly, in the right attitude. Unlike them, Victoria almost does not use vibrato in Bach, which is absolutely correct. Jewish violinists are often too emotional to play Bach with the right attitude. His is two-dimensional spiritual music; it is meditative, not emotional, it is nothing like appassionata. Jewish nature is too emotional to play Back properly, theirs is the romantic repertoire. By the way, Victoria does not like romantic music too much. She loves Baroque and modern music.

If you guys like other performances better that's fine. But to deny the absolute mastery and transcendence of this performance makes one look horribly ignorant.

She is a good violinist but not an artist--while Gitlis slaughters the work unmercifully
she gets in the way of the work not letting it speak for itself .
