The UK Prime Minister just lost the election. This is going to cause some serious ripples in the economy.
No kidding. The pound is probably going to take a hit, and stock prices might get even more volatile.
And with all this instability, businesses will be hesitant to make any big moves. It's going to affect everything from employment to consumer confidence.

Rishi is stepping down as party leader meaning that he probably called the election because he knew he was gonna be voted out. Now, he will probably be complaining that he no longer has Sky TV while sipping a glass of Champagne in his holiday trip in Barbados.
He could just have stepped down as an MP at this election, announced in advance that he was tossing the Tory leadership, then all he'd have to do is resign as PM on the Friday morning and he would have been free as a bird right now. Unfortunately, it is very bad form for a sitting PM to make that kind of announcement because it basically shows they have no faith in their party and their heart is no longer in it. That's a punch in the guts, extremely poor optics, and the opposition parties would be all over it.
A more important question: what does the head of lettuce get after May left?
