Blake Nellis & Brando (Aaron Brandes) in Contact Improvisation duet together at Earthdance. December 2009. For more info contact Brando @ heyBrando.com
Stunning! 1.06 the hand support on the back while turning. Loved that, it clearly show the point of trust and share, of course the guy is not only reading his partner's movements but helps them and makes sure his partner is safe. Amazing connection, this piece is a poem. Thank you!
Too bad about the ignorant and negative comments. Contact Improvisation is a form that speaks especially to those that are curious. The skill of listening (with your body) and being daring enough to trust the process of sharing weight. This is different than a strict dance technique, and encompasses an internal awareness as well. You can see the form in a performance piece, a lab, a jam, as part of choreography, or as two friends playing casually exploring. I felt inspired when I watched this video, and it made me long to be in that magical dome again at Earthdance.
We humans mostly move through life as if the designation is the only point of our movement. Here the movement is the destination. the play of time, gravity and momentum with another soul where the politics of gender or purpose is left at the door.May we all allow ourselves time for this. To experience this is to know moments of happiness.
absolutely stunning! looks like the two gorgeous men have known each other or at least have danced with each other for a long time. so much trust and vulnerability. so beautiful and inspiring
So nice. I've been doing CI, on and off, for over 20 years and this is one of my favourite CI vids at the moment. The art of simultaneous relaxing and surprising.... :-) Thanks!
I feel like if people had a mating dance this would be it and you could watch documentaries of it on Nat Geo Wild or something and the commentary would go something like "here we observe the human male in his natural habitat performing the mating dance. We have not yet figured out if they are trying to woo each other or someone from the audience but when they are finished, (using safety precautions) we will approach them and calmly ask them who it was directed at"
I empathise with you. It's hard in dance school when you are required to engage in forms that aren't right for you in the moment. It could also be that the form wasn't taught in a way that was sensitive to the needs and realities of the students. Looking back on it seven years later I wonder what your perspective is now?
