Has a worn Wrist Pin can hear it plain as day . The 6 hp Evinrude and Johnsons were rental motors all over the usa . They came with 2 blade props 6 X 7 1/4. After hundreds of hrs they develop wrist pin noise, but still Idle at 300 rpm in gear. They were the best and most bullet proof engines of all time. Certified Outboard tech 45 yrs
That motor sounds good but needs a few more hours after the cleaning to run its best. Those, and their Johnson cousins are some nice engines. We ran them on a 19 ft square stern canoe for years with extended side plates (whaletail). It helped pick up the rear just a bit and helped with the stability at speed.
Oldie but goodie, one of the best trolling motors from past. Smooth and quiet idling, reliable and easy starting. I used one too and it never let me down! Now I have even smaller, 4hp model w/ internal tank.
Awesome how it started first pull without any choke. Guess it must of been a nice warm day, and maybe you had put some Nulon "Start Ya Bastard" down the carby? Excellent video 💯😊
I have the same motor. Rebuilt carb cleaned and reset points. Starts fine ,idles fine, but won't get a 12 small v bottom on plane? Any suggestions? Thanks love your videos!!
The difference is yours is a V bottom, the one in the video is a flat bottom, (Jon boat). The V bottom means the boat sits deeper. 6hp is just not enough to get it out of the hole & on plane. I have the same motor, (‘77), on a 14’ Jon boat. My boat has 2 benches, & two padded seats, slightly heavier than this one. With almost no gas & by myself, it will just barely get on plane. Once up, I had it to 11.5mph. It would not get on step going into a moderate wind or waves, or with additional small (100lb) kid on board. You can try making sure most of the weight is rearward, but unfortunately, the only real solution is more HP. I also have an Evinrude 8HP, & it easily gets up with two adults
only way is tiller extention and you sit in the middle or remote steering.. i have a 12ft v with a 5.5 that will plane with steering wheel. or get a 9.9 of course
Know you're busy but this boat looks like center seat is removed. Do you have much experience with this? I would like to remove center seat on my 1440 Jon. Thanks much, Paul.
I have the '64 fisherman 5.5 and the small filter from inside the glass is broken in pieces and spare part is hard to find. I just added an inline fuel filter and all is good.
@Oscar Zamora Sounds about right. Incidentally, I haven't bought one yet that doesn't need atleast $50 in parts. If someone took that to a marina... even changing a fuel pump and lines thell charge you 2 hrs in labor. Crazy.

That IS a gem, and it really scoots along nicely
Gezz....that is FAST for a 6hp! Great to have the SPEED shown on your vids!

Wrong!!!

100 % correct
That’s the best running 6 I’ve ever seen.
They all ran perfect unless a douchebag screwed with them
beautiful little engine, nice job.

It had to be pre started for the video
Very nice motor. That fuel filter is twice as big as the piston. :). :)
No just 10 % bigger
Sweet little motor. Thanks for sharing ..
Thank you for sharing. Awesome boat and Motor 👍
Looks like fun!! Thx for sharing!!
Very cool. Nice design also :)
The full dimensions of the boat .length, width, height.the width of the nose.please
I put my 1966 fisherman on my 10ft Jon boat. It's twice the max rated horsepower but from my experience it isn't dangerous
Jorgan Morgan™ 6hp? Also most aluminium boats with low transom rating can usually hold way more being metal
If can can will you do a speed test with this motor on the 1436 war eagle boat?
What size prop u running and 2 or 3 blade
It will be even slower on War Eagle, it is heavier. You going to see War Eagle with peppy Mercury 25HP pretty soon here, once it gets warmer.
Bravo!!!👏😍

Too heavy, none planning hull, bad rigging or motor running on one cyl

If you dont mind could you describe how you ran your filter on your gas line ??? Thanks in advance
In line ,arrow pointed towards the motor.
Nice, I have a 76'.
Is it a good idea to have a fuel filter on the fuel line?
Yes it is.
I have the '64 fisherman 5.5 and the small filter from inside the glass is broken in pieces and spare part is hard to find. I just added an inline fuel filter and all is good.
Its exceptable if it's metal even though, there is a filter in the fuel pump
2 blade prop or 3 ?
2 Standard 6 X 7 1/4
great information, is that lake allatoona Ga?
yes
+vojomatusenko I live in ga on lake Lanier
What is the knob in the middle for?
DoctorCreepy it's the carb adjustment
Thanks Jarod I just picked one of these motors up at a flea market and the knob was unmarked.
That adjustment knob is for slow speed - the high speed jet is fixed. Rich counterclockwise, lean clockwise.
Thanks J!
low speed Idle adjustment
I have that same motor way smaller boat and I can’t get those speeds.
An 8 ft Hydro plane Minimax with a 6 hp will go 20 MPH. Motor not running rite, or bad weight distribution .or none planning hull. too heavy.
I have a 74 evenrude like new always chain it down or you'll going to lose it overboard
Good advise!!!
2 stroke??
Of course ,you'd never see a 4 Stroke travel at that speed, there Garbage
Oh, that neutral free revving was just PAINFUL to hear.
Yes !!! verry bad for it
I just found one these motors sitting in a barn for about 10 years. What are these motors worth in good running order?
Sell them for around $500.
about $350. you wont get anywhere near $500 unless it's been completely gone through with receipts and looks mint.
@Oscar Zamora Sounds about right. Incidentally, I haven't bought one yet that doesn't need atleast $50 in parts. If someone took that to a marina... even changing a fuel pump and lines thell charge you 2 hrs in labor. Crazy.
