We saw Dugongs (very similar to a manatee) swimming near a 16 ft saltwater crocodile in Australia. The guide said the crocodiles have no way of killing the Dugong. Crocodiles drown or thrash their victim to death but the dugong can hold it’s breath (plus it is very strong and hard to hold down). The croc can’t thrash it to death b/c of the size and the fact their are really no limbs or neck. The fat also protects it from damage.

There are 3 manatees in this river all the time. However, one can see them only occasionally, mostly in the afternoon, when they come up to feed. The crocodile just ignores them.

There are 50 million year old fossils discovered in jamaica of a manatee which could still walk on land, before they became totally aquatic. Jamaica seems to be the homeland of the manatee. And now, after 50 million years, still there. Good job jamaica, good job.

Not afraid but intimidated by thier size and curiosity, manatees will approach crocodiles and alligators sometimes even touching and bugging them.
It's a strange relationship but it's one I'm glad of.
There's no known manatee deaths due to alligators or crocodiles.
Not to mention a manatee wouldn't be easy prey, they are bigger, heavier and can swim up to 20mph with alot of force.

Manatees are too big for crocs, that's why crocs don't bother them. Crocs probably can take on smaller ones tho, but an adult would be too much even young ones the size of a croc will be hard to kill for crocs.

Nile Crocodiles and Australian crocodiles on the other hand will kill and eat a man like we’re part of the menu.
