"70%" and "be a poet not a reporter". Great advice. Loved the video and the painting. I definitely have to get out there.
Never heard the '70% and move on' saying, but I really like! Will definitely be remembering it.
Hi Peg, it will really have a positive impact. Thanks for commenting.
I love this one! Great saying, be a Poet, not a Reporter! I have difficulties having my canvas in shadow as I can not see it well. You are the first one that pointed out the disadvantage of having it in the sun as the painting turns out darker! When I have my canvas in the shade, my colours are surprisingly bright sometimes. I would love a happy medium.
Hi Sharon, the good news is, awareness is more than half the battle!
Awesome video
Thanks!
This was great
Glad you think so! Thanks.
I really need? to see a demo, for us with “shakey hands”
Love what you’ve done❤️ I can only dream.
A straight line is foreign to me. 😳
Oh, I'm sure that is frustrating! You aren't along though.
This looks so good. Thank you sharing.
Thanks and you’re welcome ☺️
I’m going to start this journey, oil painting, and found this video to be extremely helpful. I’m subscribed and eager to learn more!

What an excellent, fresh look at Plein Air! Thank you for this. It is March 1 and I am about to get busy with Plein AIr painting. I really enjoyed this. New subscriber , Can't wait to see more. Thank you Scott! - Gina in Western NC
Welcome Gina!! Thanks for taking time to write such a nice comment.
This was great. In this short video, I learned from you much more than I have from other plein air painters out there. I have yet to go outside in my neighborhood and paint. I'm a studio painter and the thought of being out there intimidates me LOL.
I know it’s intimidating, but you won’t regret it! Good luck!
Scott, love your helpful videos. I’d like to make a suggestion for a future video-how to do dappled sunlight. It’s always a challenge.
Great suggestion!
Excellent video😊
Thank you!
Thanks Scott!
You bet, Jim! Have you gotten out to paint?
Not nearly enough!
Beautiful ❤

Hi what type and size of brush are you using for the buildings? also are you using any medium? Thanks ! Love this video.
Hi Bonnie,
The brushes used were Catalyst, by Princeton - Polytip Bristle Flats, size 4/6, Robert Simmons Signet flat and filbert, size 6/8, Rosemary & Co Ivory flat, size 8.
As for medium, I use Gamblin's Solvent Free Gel.
Happy painting! - Scott
Monet had lots of sand in some of his beach paintings.
Ha! Good to know. I’ll have to look for it next time I see one.
