Your granny squares look amazing! maybe you could bind it all together with contrasting banding throughout the sweater to give you more of the look you’d like, or do a mix of granny square colors. 7 blue and whites, and the 7 orange and and whites etc..

The crocheted flower is so cute. But I completely understand, there are many different perspectives, it may look good to my eyes, you said it looks different on camera, and then there’s your personal preference, so many different perspectives. I wonder if you can dye the yarn 🤔 Crochet is fascinating to me, it was something that always confused me, so I am always impressed by anyone who can do it.
Sewing with lace, that type looks like nylon, a small stitch length and French seams can be helpful. If you can find a nice lightweight bias tape (not standard bias tape), that can be helpful for finishing raw edges. Or, a lightweight fabric for a facing. Or, if you can find some water soluble stabilizer you can finish the edges with a tight zig zag stitch (aka a long buttonhole stitch). Sorry, that’s a lot of options, but I know not every method is going to work for all. I’m eager to see your make.
Sewing with rayon is frustrating, oh but I agree, the fabric is so nice to wear. Lots of extra fussing and straightening and keeping track of grainlines, but ultimately worth it, I think 😊
