He would sit me on his lap and let me shoot the torpedo's once he put all the info in and wouldn't press the button until I said it in German. I couldn't for the life of me remember the name of this game until i saw clips of it from another Chanell and I ended up finding you from them. Been watching through all of your SH3 and SH4 vids, love your vids keep up the good work
Literally nail-biting stuff. The way you've edited these videos together really conveys the stress and tension those crews must have felt. The whispering crew reports in the game also really help. Not bad for an almost 20yr old game.

I noticed your periscope discipline is excellent. I silently criticize Taff for that as he carries out a conversation with his periscope up ! (He is one hell of a good fighter pilot though). I read that the Kriegsmarine tried to fight off aircraft with extra guns on the additional platform while sailing in company with two or three Uboats. It didn't work and they ended up getting rid of the extra platform and eventually the deck gun as well to reduce weight. This made it faster and easier to drag the boat up and out of the depths apparently, using less compressed air and helping to counter any seawater that was aboard. two extra tons of metal weight makes a difference at depth. I doubt the game models this.
The U-boats got rid of the deck gun eventually, not necessarily to reduce weight, but because the Allies started putting defensive guns on the merchant ships as standard thus rendering the deck gun redundant. It would have been a skipper with a death wish to continue to use them in a slugfest with convoys bristling with guns. It would have been a pretty unfair fight. The invention of the schnorkel allowed U-boats to remain submerged while still using their diesel engines. I do agree with you about Taff's lack of periscope discipline, though. I keep shouting in vain at the screen, "Put your bloody scope down, Taff!" but he never does! He is an okay fighter pilot when he's fighting in a turn-fighter such as the Spitfire or a Hurricane, but stick him in a Bf-109 or an Fw-190, and he still tries to conduct a turn fight when he should be booming-n-zooming. His tendency towards tunnel vision means that his situational awareness is not great and he doesn't check his six nearly often enough. I've lost count of the number of sorties he has flown where he gets jumped by an unseen enemy, and he goes, "Ooooh hello, where did you come from, Sunshine?" He is perhaps foolishly brave and doesn't know when it's best to bail-out. When you're a long way from home base, out of ammo and your engine is sounding like a bag of spanners and spewing black oil all over your windscreen and you still have half the enemy air force on your tail, you should bail out!

I still don't have a clue what destroyer that is 😑 Not even sure about the class, though my best guess is that she's at *least* an A-/B-class destroyer, or even as new as a G- or even an early H-class, given the quad torpedo launcher. The amount of compressed air wouldn't really change. You're just changing what point the ballast tanks are filled to to achieve neutral buoyancy.

I always fire at the warship escorts when I can . Have sunk many with one Torpido .
He exceedingly rarely attacks warships, so it's not really perplexing. He does consider carriers worthy targets, though.
