As someone who is both disabled and immunocompromised, this means a lot. Hearing people say "oh, it's only the disabled that get sick and die", it's like, what, my life is worth nothing to you? You don't care if I die? It's like people don't realize that you are talking about ACTUAL PEOPLE. And besides, my disabilities are invisible - if I'm having a good day, you'd NEVER realise that I have serious disorders.

I know I’m super late but yeah it sucks that people are selfish like that. Their negligence about the people around them sucks. I hated seeing guys on insta comment that the sick people would be the first ones to go, that they’re healthy and don’t need a mask. And then the antivaxers who didn’t want their kids yo be vaccinated for school. (Yet in order for their kids to attend school they need, polio, chicken pox and other vaccines). But sorry just me ranting lol

Felt this so hard! Covid wrecked my immune system! Long Covid caused autoantibodies to produce in my body, which means flu or similar infections can literally kill me! Same thing with my chemical intolerance to otc’s! It increases my risk of complications because I can’t take any medications!
Edit: I also almost forgot to mention the constant joint pain and weakness. Long Covid can cause a lot more problems than people realize! Mask up during high and medium case levels! Get vaccinated if able!

I hate to say it, but only 200,000 deaths at the end of this pandemic would really be a better case scenario for us, even though it's still a tragic loss. The US is huge compared to most other countries. We rank 3rd highest in population only behind China and India, at 331,002,651 total people. That's one country being almost half of Europe's entire population. So it makes sense that statistically more people here will contract the virus or die from it compared to other countries.
I've been keeping track of the charts and numbers reported on www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/ . The US is 1st in both total cases and total deaths. We have over 650,000 more cases than the next highest case totals, and 20,000 more deaths than the next highest death totals. But if you compare each of the top several country's number infected to their total population, then the US's infection rate is in the low-mid range. Many countries have a lower infection rate, but a lot of others have even higher rates than we do despite us having way more total case numbers. Also, if you arrange the charts based on 'Deaths per 1Mil Pop', then surprisingly the US ranks 15th at 144 deaths per 1 million population. It's not great, and we'd preferably be lower down on that ranking, but it's still better than the countries who have between 1,100 - 200 deaths per 1M pop. Especially considering we have 100s more million people than those other countries.
But honestly, nobody really knows how many people are going to catch this virus or die of it. The numbers are changing every single day, so every prediction they've given is just pure conjecture. Even scientist's and expert's absolute best educated guesses are probably going to be wrong. I guess what I'm trying to say is that as bad as things are now, I truly believe that things could be MUCH worse, and I hope it never gets to that. So yea, I think 200,000 could be considered a "success" rate while still being absolutely awful and tragic.

    • @jesuschrist4752
      @jesuschrist4752 4 года назад +21

When the predicted amount of deaths by this point was up in several millions category, technically it is a net win. Not saying that 200k deaths is ideal, but its better that what we all were expecting

    • @itsjustnadia

And it sounds even worse when you think about how the Pontic genocide at the hands of the Turks came to a number of about 500.000 people that is not far away from the number of deaths from the coronavirus. And how many have died worldwide because of lack of protective measures?

I actually wrote to her saying I was scared and that I felt like if I didn't have a diagnosis I could pretend I didn't have a problem.
Turns out when I finally got my lupus diagnosis I was glad that I was able to make the pain go away with medication, and when I found out it comes with depression and chronic fatigue it was relieving to know it wasn't really my "fault" to be a sad lazy potato who fell asleep anywhere (craziest one: at my boss' office during a meeting while standing, not even sitting, I fell to the floor)

This pandemic is bringing the best and the worst out of people. Sadly, discrimination and xenophobia have spiked during this time, especially towards the Asian population around the world. I live in Toronto, a city that houses a large Chinese community that is facing lots of hate from ignorant people due to misinformation around the Coronavirus.

And it’s real funny, because in the beginning there was a lot of false info being spread so there were a lot of elderly, both Chinese and non, who were being dumb about covid-19. Even the Chinese were being “racist” to our own race, eg. Saying don’t go near the “PRC” aka people’s republic of China which refers to people born in china. I live in the GTA (but not Toronto) and my best friend/coworker is half Chinese, born and raised in Canada, never left the country even to travel. Taking the bus she’s gotten so many ignorant comments, at work one day a customer outright asked her if she was Asian and she said she was half Chinese not thinking anything of it, and they started asking her if she should be at the Home Depot “spreading her disease” around. Every one of our coworkers were pissed. Lucky for them they left (in fear from my friend solely because of their racism) before any of the managers could show up because they would have been banned. Managers told her in the future, don’t even respond just immediately call out for a manager, that she should not be dealing with that.

My best friend is severely immune compromised. I went about a year and half without seeing her in person but we FaceTimes every few days and texted every single day, despite living less than a mile apart. You can totally maintain relationships online with your immune compromised friends, it’s just about putting in that effort. Nowadays we live about 2,500 miles away from each other, as we both moved after highschool, but maintain contact just the same. She told me it’s hard for her because many people give up on having a friendship with her because of her illness. Isolation isn’t easy for anyone, especially for the chronically Ill. The point of this is to say if you have a friend in isolation, be there for them (online, not physically though).

I hold the door for him, he goes straight to washing machine and strips, don't touch sides it washing machine with clothes and go straight to the shower. I have had several panic attacks and many days of absolute fear. I am in pretty extreme isolation since I had inadverntant contact with an infected tourist (I work as a tour guide) and that was Feburary 27th. I do not leave my home except to walk my dog. I avoid contact with every other human being besides my husband. My hands are a mess from constant hand washing. I spent two hours yesterday disinfecting my grocery delivery. I bring disinfectant whipes every time I leave my apartment to disinfect my door knob, the elevator buttons, the front door knob, my mail box.... I also have no idea when I will be able to go back to work, let alone safe to go back to work. I current have daily panic attacks becuase my parents are in legal quarantne due to contact with an infected person and are awaiting their corona test results. When people ask me how I am doing I just say "ok enough" becuase at least I am not dead or infected but really, this is daily torment.

I've got a medical condition that makes working a traditional job basically impossible, so the feeling of being dead weight and worthless really hits home. I've got a job I do from home, but I still feel like it isn't enough. Our work culture just doesn't give a shit about people with disabilities, plain and simple.

"Genocide by negligence." That really hurt to hear. So many people think "It's not me or those I love dyeing, why should I care?". We can't think like that. Because if we do, no one will ever help or save anyone. If we do, we have no doctors. No nurses. No fire fighters. No one to help us, or anyone, when we need them. We can't think like this. 8:50
Found the poem I was thinking of that said it perfectly. First They Came - by Pastor Martin Niemöller:
First they came for the Communists
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a Communist
Then they came for the Socialists
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a Socialist
Then they came for the trade unionists
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a trade unionist
Then they came for the Jews
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a Jew
    Then they came for me
And there was no one left
    To speak out for me

Also was on the phone with my mental health case manager near the start of this pandemic and I mentioned something about being at risk and she literally scoffed and asked "how are you considered at risk?". Can you do "I spent a day with Dyslexics"?
Not just Dyslexia, but also they surrounding learning difficulties too, like discalculia, dysgraphia, and dyspraxia! Dyslexia is very misunderstood and people need to stop ignoring it.

I have a chronic illness and am therefore immunosuppressed, and one of the biggest problems i had is from earlier this year when my government (in australia, but specifically my state govt) was saying that "if you're healthy and young you'll be fine". They didn't see fit to mention what would happen if you weren't healthy or weren't young, or what the chances were it'd be serious. I got really upset by that because not only was it almost dehumanising, but it was also anxiety inducing because I had no real way to find out what it'd be like for me, and it meant that everyone around me acted like it was no longer an issue

It's a sad reality when it's easier to imagine people dying for the "economy" than capitalism changing.

there was a german comedian saying something in a podcast that fits this quite well: companies dont die, humans die.
its horrible that people put the economy over the lives of thousands of people

    • @Tessa_Gr
      @Tessa_Gr 4 года назад +9

@@Ariyl I think in general people have to learn that companies aren't humans. It may sound stupid but I think some people at least subconsciously feel like that and companies take advantage of that. Just think about fast food twitter where fast food companies hire people to make sassy/funny/.. tweets for cheap marketing. If you even show concern over these marketing practices you get angry comments for "ruining the fun", even though people know that that's not the sassy company mascot tweeting but just someone hired who exploits those people that think they're not influenced by these marketing strategies.

God why doesn't Anothony get more recognition like the guy deserves all the good things to come to him. He just seems so nice and genuine.
My dad has asthma, if he gets the virus he'll most likely die so my family has taken this very seriously. I also have grandparents at risk. We planned that if any of my family (not my dad) get it we'll disinfect the house and make whoever tested positive live in our caravan so they aren't near our Dad. No one I know is taking it seriously. I hope you are happy I hope things get better for you. My Dad was stuck in the house without leaving for 18 weeks. My Mum did online shopping because she didn't want to go in a shop and catch it then give it to my Dad.
