Bf3 was really made to last. The animations stand up pretty well even for today's standards. May have some funny ones like the RPG just dropping down when you fire or the LMG reloading isn't exactly realistic. But, the lighting, the particle affects and even character models and movements are still top notch. Bf2042 has some work to do. It looks great but like someone said in the comments, it's rushed. If they were to just take a look at bf3 and update 2042 with some of its physics and animations, the new bf can be a superb game. The guns look like bb guns with blanks firing out them. Bf3 has a nasty recoil, blur affects and that sound design is nice too. Bf2042 needs work. They could've grabbed the guy's from bf3 and bf1 to make the environments, atmosphere and maps and have the bf4 guys do epic levelution moments. And have real vets talk about and analyze recoil and sound design. It would've made for a pretty cool game if they only took the time.
Bf 2042 looks great? What!? Its a 2021 game that looks worst than bf3. Not even mention that the gameplay is an insult to any veteran. They could not have done a worst job.
Regarding the reloading movement, I think this work is the best ever.However, I feel that basic movements such as walking have rather deteriorated.I want DICE to take it seriously
i'm surprised no one has mentioned the fact that the faces for the 2042 portal models (aside from usmc support, which is an actual unique face as far as i can tell) are lifted straight from bf1 and bf5
Transitioning from BF3 to BF4 I learned that the AN-94's magazine well is canted slightly to the right. I now appreciate this little detail in the newer shooter games as it's an uncommon detail on rifles.
I only noticed it when I saw the customization menus in bf4. However, I did always wonder why you couldn't see the mag on the gun in 1st person view, I just thought that every game that modeled the an94 just coincidentally had this oversight, when in fact it was modelled correctly 😂
Personally, I think they did the soldiers' overall appearances dirty in Portal, at least for the US team. They all have the eyes of dead fish and some of them just look so ... weird to me, especially the medic and support. (Edit: Also, it's hard to improve on perfection)

One detail I noticed is that the helmet is different in the russian assault, the original used a mich 2000 but in portal it is more of a russian helmet like the bad company 2 assault (with the difference that battlefield 3 uses a mount nvg). Likewise, the Russian portal support has pants with gen 3 knee pads, whereas in the original game they were just very typical and common military knee pads.
Only texture? Graphics and shading options are much better in BF portal. 3rd person reload animations are much better in Portal. Models also well detailed. Some gun sounds and all rocket sounds are better in portal. All reload sounds are better in portal.
I have to admit the TPS reload animations in portal are pretty good especially with weapon parts are moving aswell. But i prefer the soldier TPS movement in BF3 especially when they look around and how their upper part turn first then lower body follow when the upper part reach the limit.

I gotta say, while there are a lot of steps back in 2042 and I like to shit on that game as much as the next guy, I gotta give credit where it's due--the third person reloads sync up excellently with the first person ones and that's really nice. Since the animations didn't line up in BF3 it was common to see someone firing his gun already while it appeared like he was still reloading his weapon.
The problem I see with 2042's animations is that they are the same in both 1st and 3rd person. It may look decent in the latter view since you wouldn't be focusing that much on other soldier animations while playing the game, but it looks vary stiff and robotic in 1st POV. BF3's separate animations make it look more refurbished and immersive, having more detailed animations from the player's perspective while the one's with slightly less effort are seen by other players (which as I stated before isn't as big of a deal).
BF2042 has both 1st person and 3rd person animations made in mocap. In all out war, the first person animations were remade at 90% by hand by Oskar, dice’s animator for BF1, V and 2042 before leaving 3 months ago. In portal, the first person animations were remade by ripple effect, a small LA studio already working on multiple projects
Portal is a great concept but was made in a rush and came out totally ASS as far as animations...Same for 2042's anims, they are just terrible IMO...MW2019 set the bar tooo high for some games, but still past BF games made and still makes a better job than the current one...Not changing my mind, i tried 2042 and now i'm back to BF3 and 4 and they just feel waaaaaaay better, PERIOD.
They dont only feel and play better, they're in fact just better in nearly every aspect. Hell, these new devolopers at dice really fucked it up with 2042. Sadly, It seems like there is nothing of the old Dice left and THIS is what the battlefield Franchise has become now.

In bf3 they actually make angry faces or even some minimal expressions while firing or standing idle. just look at 17:55 compared to it's predecessor. that heavy gunner in 2042 looks like "welp another Monday" with the most basic poker face there is.

I have no idea why they didn't just reuse the SMAW or AKs74U animations from the original game, they would have been fine. The M1 garand though might be the worst in Portal
I love the voice lines, It makes the game more authentic and it’s funny to hear. I don’t know if anyone else noticed but if you look to the soldiers' face (mostly the Americans) you will notice that when you shoot, the facial expression will change, what a detail.
Different dev studio made the portal mode so you will see some difference in character movement. I’m sure they tried to duplicate but usually you can never get the same as the original

Also you dont twist the shell, you just shove it in. The tube does have U-shape lock, but thats it)
In my opinion bf3 had the best player models and melee animations out of all Bf games, bf4 is definitely my number 2 for both. The immersion aspect was also great in bf3 from the voice lines, clunks of gear and the heavy breathing when sprinting mixed with the wind made you feel like you were watching a helmet cam. I also loved the gritty, dirty feel that everything had, nothing is sterile in a Warzone.

Did anybody else notice that the fire selector for the M16A3 in Battlefield Portal is upside down during the equip animation?? The arrow on the selector meant to point to your current mode of fire is pointed downward, towards nothing but the pistol grip (rendering it inoperable, as the safety is manipulated by cutouts in the selector itself), before your character flips the selector THROUGH the notches on the receiver in order to set it to full auto. How in the FUCK did they mess that up?

Call of duty has been known to only care about first person animations, such as reloads. Player movements were always odd looking. You can see this culture crossed over into 2042, not surprising when COD developers develop this game. Modern Warfare 2019 did set a benchmark for reload animations, so 2042 does have good quality reloads. But everything else is just neglected because that’s just how COD developers have been making their games for years.
I saw a video where they showed the animation of a btf5 character that when colliding with obstacles the character reacted by losing his balance. does anyone have a link to that video?
Another reminder on how much Dice has changed and how all the original developers who made battlefield great is gone. Dice is no longer the company we use to cherish in the past. Now they are just another cog part of the AAA machine used to churn out more unoriginal half-baked bland softwares.

also american assault have different helmet too unlike the original one, and majority of the bf3 soldiers have different default camoflague on 2042

they took "reject modernity, return to monke" too seriously
They should've instead done the modern warfare remastered treatment, same game, updated graphics and slight tweaks here and there, it wouldve been 10x better than portal
And plus... the control in BF 2042 is stiffer than previous battlefield.
Call of duty has been known to only care about first person animations, such as reloads. Player movements were always odd looking.
You can see this culture crossed over into 2042, not surprising when COD developers develop this game.
Modern Warfare 2019 did set a benchmark for reload animations, so 2042 does have good quality reloads. But everything else is just neglected because that’s just how COD developers have been making their games for years.
