I always knew that shark represented his latent sexual desires. Much like when I look at gay porn and my throbbing member is aching to burst out of my pants is actually my repressed love of lesbian sex and lust for women in general. It's probably Freudian or something. It's very complicated stuff.
When I first saw this movie, I just thought it was a scary movie about a dangerous shark. Now, Peter Rosenthal has made me understand just what this movie is really about. Thanks, Peter.
OMG, I feel so stupid! I've watched Jaws many times without noticing the homoerotic subtext you've so clearly revealed in this video. Thank you, Peter. Thank you for Peter, Onion!
Living in Australia and hearing about the frequent shark attacks these days, and knowing what I now know about Jaws, I have to consider that in the good old days, shark attacks were rare. I'm also reconsidering Happy Days' Fonzie jumping the shark episode in a new light.
Unlike "Midnight Cowboy", "Jaws" tackled its homosexual theme straight on. Many people do not realize that "Jaws" was also a euphemism for the shark that was the secondary theme of the movie, a double entendre before its time. Jim
Good work in proving that, with proper montage, a narrator that poses as "expert critic" and access to the public, you can make everyone believe the most unbelievable things. In this example, turn the public to think that a thriller(like the Jaws) is a homosexual drama(rotfl). This is one the reasons I like the Onion so much. It makes you *think*.
That is what it is about they just decided to show only the parts that agreed with the point they were making to better convince you that it was all entirely about what they portray it to be.
brilliance. impeccable narration ; audio and video. the dialog was perfect in content. a dead horse was beaten, over and over and. . u get it. . but it still POPPED . u know y? editing. kick ass editing. u people r comical to me. I can only imagine how funny you actually think you are. funny.
Peter Rosenthal is unironically the only film critic anyone needs to pay attention to.
I have a theory that Peter Rosenthal is the only film critic whom Myles Barlow (of Review With Myles Barlow) respects.
His sound of music review could be used to teach a philosophy class
This actually isn't a bad analysis of the film.
I always knew that shark represented his latent sexual desires. Much like when I look at gay porn and my throbbing member is aching to burst out of my pants is actually my repressed love of lesbian sex and lust for women in general. It's probably Freudian or something. It's very complicated stuff.
"The two gay velociraptors" caught me offguard
You're not the only one. A lot of us didn't catch that on our first watch of that movie.
Clever girls.
After years of reviews, The Onion manages to fully dissect the real interpretation of Jaws. Beautiful.
The Onion's film critic reviews Steven Spielberg's 1975 classic 'Jaws'
Trevor Downing You are incredibly dumb... go the theonion.com
Trevor Downing Well done Trevor! Great joke! (straight face)
spot on and brilliant in so many ways
I know that The Onion is usually satirical, but this makes WAY too much sense.
When I first saw this movie, I just thought it was a scary movie about a dangerous shark. Now, Peter Rosenthal has made me understand just what this movie is really about. Thanks, Peter.
Urrggg! Now I will never see Jaws in the same light again!
sam e here :D Thanks a lot Peter!
Well it’s best to watch films in a dark room to avoid glare.
I will never see Martin Brody the same way again. That's for sure.
@@troyterry6919 Give David Cronenberg's 'Naked Lunch' a watch to see if it can change your mind.
Brody spelled backwards is Ydorb the Siberian God of gaytitude
I was afraid I misinterpreted the movie back in the day... Now it's clear I was right about all those metaphors and symbolism!
Why Do People Type Like This?
Krwiomocz.Bogurodzicy Idiocy will always be mocked. Nobody is forcing you to be a dumbass. It is up to you.
DID I WIN?
Musta been easy in ‘75! Isnt that when Pacino did Hustler too?
"We're gonna need a bigger boat"
... That's some bad hat, Harry! Well yeah he's circumcised.
You know for a fact that if Rosenthal made one for Top Gun that's the one film he'd play off as a 100% straight film.
It sounds like one my bloody english essays -_-
I think I now I understand the meaning of 'salty sea captain' on a much deeper level.
My new favorite segment on The Onion. Seriously, this felt like half of my literature courses.
This is still the best onion movie review.
I love The Onion's movie reviews. The one they did about The Wizard of Oz is one of the funniest things I've ever seen in my life.
OMG, I feel so stupid! I've watched Jaws many times without noticing the homoerotic subtext you've so clearly revealed in this video. Thank you, Peter. Thank you for Peter, Onion!
this is actually the best film critic that exists
Wait does this mean the movie Brokeback Mountain is really a horror film about sharks?
A highly controversial movie those many years ago, but truly a heartfelt classic.
A very interesting, well preformed rendering giving us a very different point of view of how we should interpret what the shark really symbolizes :)
I'll never be able to watch Jaws with a straight face again.
perhaps a gay face then?
Brings a whole new meaning to "We're going to need a bigger boat"
down to his knees
Do you ever think what if a regular shark attacked them when they came back?
Hmanthe6th Never thought of that. Great point! 😂
This... Is just a piece of art.
If one were to submit this for an analysis for a film studies class it would probably get an A
This remind me of that philosopher Slavoj Zizek.
Now I can finally enjoy this movie the way others do.
every time I watch jaws I refer to brody as a severely repressed homosexual because of this video
Author: haha big shark go burr
Teacher: the creator is using the shark as a physical manifestation of.....
I no longer want this man to do film reviews for my church group
Wrong, looks like you didn't get it.
Broke Back Mountain was about Koreas division into two countries.
Living in Australia and hearing about the frequent shark attacks these days, and knowing what I now know about Jaws, I have to consider that in the good old days, shark attacks were rare.

‘Severely repressed homosexual Martin Brody’ wtf 😂💦

Jim
Already I've heard the expression "being afraid of sharks", if you know what I mean.
Barely a parody at all, actually. There are a multitude of interpretations of films and books that run along these lines, and are just as absurd.
+redcatofdeath
yea all this interpretation they do is completely subjective, you can project anything you want onto any movie
I enjoyed the whole thing but I laughed out loud at the girl in the red dress joke.
I love that he is dressed like Han Solo while doing this review.
You should cover the homoerotic classic, Fight Club.
I always thought they looked at each other just a little too long. LOL!
You silly goose ! Brokeback mountain was about a shark stalking two cowboys in the woods.
“The shark drags the barrels into the water... repression.” Haha
When I saw tis as a kid I didn't get all the deep hidden symbolism, but it's all just an allegory -- I see that now. Very deep.
Broke back ocean.
Gives new meaning to the term, "Jumping the Shark "
This whole "sharks representing repressed homosexuality" puts a whole new spin on Sharknado...
Please keep making these, they're amazing
I want one of these on every DVD of every movie.
I'm doing a study on the movie Jaws, and this video helped a lot with my essay, The Onion, thanks! My Teacher's gonna love my work.
Critics more insightful than the movies themselves. Thank you Dr Rosenthal
my lecturer literally mentioned this theory in yesterdays class, I am now thinking he may just of watched the onion and added it into his class
I'm gonna come here, I'm gonna say I'm gonna come here.
Here I am.
I thought it said "The Onion Looks Back At Jews"
Honestly, it might have been even more entertaining.
0:08 I'm I just going mad or are those the fist 5 notes of the "city of tears" piece from hollow knight

2:31 I don't get it. is the red coat saying the little lady is saying she's lesbian? a
please i beg you do this kind of videos every week
Why didn't I ever thought of that! It all makes sense now!
Pete Rosenthal needs to review Broke Back Mountain. I can't wait.
If only I saw this one earlier, I could have use it as my high school film review eassy
This was very informal.
I just might need to watch it again.
Surprised at how many people ate the onion on this one.
Welcome to the Onion.
Stick around.
The Onion is extremely clever in its writing. The critic has a Jewish name of course.
JINO
I sincerely hope you are not suggesting he is in fact a Jew
lazy homebody
Yes
You mean someone will argue it actually wasn't.
next someone will say top gun is gay....
Grange34 We can’t handle that truth.
* used as adjective.
Thank you for the correction I don't know if I would have caught that haha.
Wonder what he thinks of Top Gun??
haha, awesome review, i never realized the background symbolism in this movie
Best. Film analysis. Ever.
Now you know why Spielberg likes Blue Is The Warmest Color so much.
Sometimes a shark is just a shark.
I had no idea Jaws was so deep
So it's "Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde" retold
This presenter makes me laugh. Funny stuff
its so clear now
Wow.
This plot is better than the actual plot of the movie.
That is what it is about they just decided to show only the parts that agreed with the point they were making to better convince you that it was all entirely about what they portray it to be.
I wish more did but I think that they have either been removed from the internet or have learned that The Onion only seeks to make fun of them.
You say the shark is Brodys fear of his own homosexuality but when they almost killed him you say it's repression.
I'm getting really close to believing this is actually the story behind Jaws.
Hmm. I wonder what this tells us about the relationship between ET and Elliott in that other Spielberg movie?
“Or the little girl wearing the red coat in Shindler’s List”
brilliance. impeccable narration ; audio and video. the dialog was perfect in content. a dead horse was beaten, over and over and. . u get it. . but it still POPPED . u know y? editing. kick ass editing. u people r comical to me. I can only imagine how funny you actually think you are. funny.
Does The Onion ever show outtakes?
There are none. All in one take.
Nj Njhjh Exclusively
Amazing review of this amazing thriller.
Awesome content!
The mechanical shark used in _Jaws_ was referred to by the crew as 'Bruce'. Just saying.
Omg shark week makes a LOT more sense now...
Called it!
That title is easy to misread: "The Onion Looks Back At Jews" with a picture of a shark XP
This is some heavy Freudian observations here that even Freud himself wouldn't have pointed them out.
Damn!
SuperMechaGodzilla, it's good to finally see your face
How about a Jaws/Mommie Dearest double feature?
Topgun 3 should have jaws as the antagonist
This makes perfect sense, as someone once told me that Jaws was gay. I guess that's why he was always swimming with his mouth open.
I don't think we watched the same movie Rosenthal 😂
