I have a Hosta plant on my deck that's at least 22 years old. It's very low maintenance and thank the Lord it blooms every year and I have a vine plant that you can just take a couple of pieces off, stick them in soil, water them and they will continue to grow. I wish I knew the name of it but vine plants are pretty easy to grow.
They are something very precious, I have a ficus tree from my Dad’s funeral 25 years ago. It was 12” tall then. It’s 8ft. Tall And beautiful in my living room now!
I'm disabled and garden with storage totes, 3 & 5 gallon buckets, half plastic drums, grow bags, etc.. I have sand cherries🍒, blueberries and a fig tree in the drums and lots of everything else in the containers. I grow lots of Swiss Chard, 🥬, collards, green onions, bell peppers, tomatoes🍅, cucumbers🥒, 🍆 eggplants, zucchini, summer and winter squash as well as herbs of all kinds.
I would be very careful using a laundry basket for growing any fruit or vegetables. Toxins from the plastic can leach into the soil, thus into the plant. Especially in the sun as the pot/basket is heated. There are specific plastic containers that are acceptable which you can research on line. Also, Dollar Tree plastics have been shown to contain high amounts of toxins that cause cancer. Not just a laundry basket but the food containers and children’s toys (that they put in their mouths because that’s that kids do). Anyway… just saying be wary.
I bought two large plastic totes from Menards for around $3.50 each. they look similar to a planter, except the handles. The handles are low, so not too noticable. Kind of a beige color with some swirl in the plastic. They are as big or bigger than the laundry basket, so the handles are handy. Not sure how well they will do over a Michigan winter. They are flexible, so hopefully I can get several years out of them. I miss my old galvanized washtubs. They were great, and no plastic!t
My mom is 93 so this year we did the container plating. So she has tomatoes, bell peppers, cucumbers and collard green! They are doing well! She has had a garden since I was a child and I am now 59. It is very rewarding to share this with kids and show them how they can have veggies of their own to grow! We also use the dried out seeds that we dry out out and place on medicine bottles and label for next years planting.
Tip on using larger containers - if you don't really need all the soil for a huge plant, save using some soil and take up room with empty smaller nursery pots, empty plastic bottles, pieces of pool noodles or Styrofoam.
I put packaging styrofoam in the bottom of 3 LARGE pots about 20 yrs ago & they're still there. You really don't need that much soil depth for most plants. About 6-8" is usually sufficient.
I decided to Winter over 17 geraniums. They flourished all winter. The beginning of April I took several cuttings from the plants and still have the mother plants. If all cuttings root I will have 50 geranium plants to share with my friends. Our daughter gifted me for my birthday and November to succulents a month for a year. So I'm watching those babies grow quickly right now this spring.
How did you winter them? I don't have alot of luck with keeping them alive. This year will be my year!! Do you think the red flowers in do better or more hardy?
@pamelajefferies3197 I have camping tables.2 of them. They have legs that are adjustable. These tables are long & narrow. So I leveled the tables to the bottom edge of the window sill. My window sills are only two feet off the floor We have huge corners windows 6ft by 9 ft. I put them in the South window. We have a two foot over hang on the outside of the house. Left geraniumsin the house there with saucers underneath them. And watered whenever they were dry. They will have leaves that die off, not to worry. Continue with faith. Hope this helps.
i have a fig tree in a planter. I'm from Toronto, Canada and so happy to be able to take my fig tree outdoor finally because the weather is much warmer.
I love growing rosemary. I live in southern Alabama so it gets super hot. These things don’t need extra attention. They have remained happy in sun and rain and didn’t die in winter. I highly recommend them as they can be used in cooking and they help keep mosquitos away. I also have a Meyer lemon tree and several other potted plants.
I like how you repurposed the hanging plant. I do that all the time; it's a great tip. In the Spring or around Mother's Day, hanging plants often go on a deep discount sale and are actually cheaper than buying the individual plants many times. They've also been put together by a professional designer, so you know the colors, shapes, and textures go well together.
Hi to all! I am enjoying this video. Yes I have almost all of my flowers and vegetables in containers. I find it easier to grow in containers than in the ground. I grow lettace, potatoes, beets, beens, carrots, tomatoes, spinach and sweet potatoes all in containers. Some are on my deck and some are in the yard. To take up room in the bottom of large containers I put broken sticksand leaves you can also put shredded paper, all of these will break down over time and enrich your soil. Good luck to you on your growing adventures! Just remember the smaller containers need watering more often than larger ones.
I have A LOT of plants iin containers of all sizes outside after discovering they're much easier to care for than things in the ground. I'm in Southern CA near the beach and get morning sun in front, so have a lot of succulents and rather drought-tolerant things that can take full sun. To keep things looking good all year, I focus on planting perennials that won't die out seasonally. A little searching online provides plenty of information about growing plants in containers.
So I suck at growing things. I'm trying but I don't think it's my talent. But... I did put a green onion root in some water and it actually grew!! Y'all! I was so excited that I was telling everyone like I discovered the secret to life lol
Thank you! Sometimes I feel stuck on how to decorate, so far I have done nothing because of the budget not allowing...😢, but I think some of your ideas had make me come to realized I have so many things I can do without spending too much money! Also live with some style! Thank you so much!
Thanks so much for all your great ideas on planters! They are so creative! I have lots of indoor plants about 20 plants inside some are cuttings from ladies in Bible study group. I also have raised beds and I’m growing tomatoes, peppers and cucumbers. Happy gardening!
Hey there, we grow strawberries, blueberries, thornless raspberries, have fig trees, cherry trees, a fruit cocktail tree as well as a vegetable garden. We also have tons of beautiful lavender, lupine, garden pinks, merrigolds, snap dragons, sunflowers, hanging baskets, some blue grass, a beautiful Tropicana, a couple of hydrangeas, rose bushes, a huge honeysuckle and more. I also have my houseplants that are taking over my kitchen lol.
I am constantly planting sedums such as Hens & Chicks, then repotting little starts to give to my friends. They are definitely the easiest plants that keep on giving 🥰
Great video. I really like the laundry basket/laundry bag idea. I live in San Diego so everything grows here. Right now I’ve got about a dozen avocado pits growing in pots. The one that might work for you is a fig tree though. You can keep it trimmed to a manageable size and get fruit that is great for making jam. In your area you will need to move it into a garage or basement during the winter but still fun to grow. Thanks so much for sharing!
I bought the Wildflower blend, sunny mix, from the Dollar Tree, and put them in 2 separate pots, thet are all growing! Im excited to see what comes up!
I’m so glad you made planters for live plants. I’ve been waiting on someone to do a video on this. I have a lot of plants and needed some ideas to spruce them up a bit.
Most of my rear garden is containers apart from the larger well established shrubs & trees - perennials mainly so we get back year on year. Hostas, Astilbes and ferns in the shade. Lavender, alpines for sunny/hot spots. Inbetweeners are roses and lupins. Lots of climbers, in particular clematis (they like their feet cold but apart from that they like part sun/shade) I have a few small Acers/Japanese maples too! Great content 🌟
Currently growing heirloom pear and super steak tomatoes, asparagus, sunflowers, lettuce, celery, green onions, as well as some lillies, elephant ears, and various other house plants. They are all on the patio for now but come indoors before cold weather. Thanks for the video.
Yes I have aloe vera, mother-in-law tongue, case iron plant, spider plant, and some Ivy. I love plants. A lot of my plants froze in the freeze in February. So I have to start over.
That laundry basket pot is genius! Big pots are so expensive! I have a 6ft x 12ft balcony that I have kale , broccoli, spinach, cabbage, onions, carrots, all spices you can think of, tomatoes, lettuce, 10 different peppers, cucumbers, beans, peas and lettuce! Also a couple varieties of flowers 🌸 it’s crowded but beautiful 🤩
I have many things growing all year from clippings from store bought vegetables and seeds from fruits. Onions (green, cooking, purple, Spanish and vadalia) Horseradish from roots, ginger from risomes, romaine lettuce from core roots, celery from core root, broccoli from core stem, Orange tree from seed, papaya from seeds, apple tree from seeds, pineapple from leafy root. I'm always trying to grow anything that I have bought but I also forage to find plants to grow for medicines. I do have many house plants as well.
You have great ideas and tips for planting flowers and seeds. Everything looks very nice. I know this is from 2y ago. All in all you have a great channel. Have a wonderful week. 😀👍👍
Alive in pots we have a blue berry bush, aloe, succulents, avocado, rosemary, chives and other onions, ivy... several herbs...my husband LOVES plants lol!
I have many plants in pots that I keep in the house, I also currently have bell peppers-red, green, yellow and orange inside in large pots. When they get a bit bigger and the weather gets a bit more stable I will move them outside but still keep them in the pots. We have a lot of voles that love to eat our produce. So we have planted tomatoes and potatoes in pots as well. So keep on trying. It is really nice to be able to bring your planters inside in the fall to prolong the season a bit.
I have hostas planted in big containers on my shady patio. They come back every year and just need a little watering. Lots of varieties and some cute plant picks or sidewalk lights stuck in are really nice.
Have loads of plants in pots. Herbs veges flowers hanging and climbing baskets. Just getting into seasoning pots - so autumn - winter and spring - summer plants so hopefully will begin to have semi - continuous planters. Love your diys thank you for your ideas. Blessings
I SOOOO LOOOOVE THESE I COULD CRY!!!THANK YOU SOOOOO VERY MUCH GOING HOME TO PREPARE AND TRANSFORM SOME OF THESE IN A FLOWER POTS!!!! I CANT THANK YOU ENOUGH QUEEEEEN!!!!!!BLESSINGS 💖💝💞
I currently have a garden with tomatoes, peppers, squash, and cucumbers. In pots I have herbs, peppers, and a cherry tomatoe plant. I have Begonias, pansies, and Cockscone.
I have a dozen African Violets indoors. I also have a large pony tail plant and philodendron. I have herds of deer in my back property so it’s difficult to keep vegetables or flowers. I have a large vinca garden that the deer leave alone. It’s nice that you can grow plants on your deck. Everything looks so colorful
This was amazing!! Learned about ferns. I’m actually doing a series of planting using recycle, reuse materials so this was great to see how you dolled up the containers. And the laundry basket idea is amazing!! Thank you again!
In pots in my home? Well,.... I have a 5 year old Chinese Fan Palm, a large Aloe Vera and 2 of her babies, a 10 year old Double Hibiscus tree, a beautiful Monstera plant, a Bromeliad and a basket planter with a small palm plant and a small prayer plant. THEN I just started some carrots, broccoli, onions, acorn squash, sugar snap peas, cherry tomatoes, and I'm rooting some sweet potatoes. AND I'm getting ready to root some white potatoees and going to start getting my yard ready and also build some raised beds to transplant the veggies I started indoors. Also, I'm also going to trim my blackberry bush thats in a large container outside and I still have a lot more planting to do: corn, melons, herbs, etc.! I used to have over 50 indoor plants but stopped growing so many indoors. Now I enjoy growing edible plants outdoors and a few indoor plants. Gardening is FUN!!!!
Plumeria Tree’s, Sedum, Banana Tree’s, Broom Bush, Rose Moss, Salvia, Lemon Tree, Squash, Tomatoes, jalapeño pepper, Lemon Grass, Penta’s, Ti Plant l, Plumed Cockscomb, Chinese Ixora, Mexican Heather, Egyptian Star Clusters, Passion Fruit, Angel Trumpet Tree, Garden Star of Bethlehem, Plantain Lily, and so much more!! I had no idea until I continued typing!!!
I live in Arizona so I have several huge 'Mother-In-Law Tongues' & a couple of Madagascar Dragon Trees(your spiky plant in your hexagonal planter- its a common name for them). Also corn, tomatoes, different lettuces, potatoes, onions, a couple of different peppers, watermelon, oranges, strawberries, & cherries. I also have a wildflower mix that I planted, some hollyhocks, different types of flowers & things to attract hummingbirds, butterflies & other pollinators. I have them planted in pots, raised beds, a bathtub & a porcelain urinal. My next project is going to be a fairy, gnome, griffen & gargoyle village in my front yard & getting rid of my robot that's there now.
@@StyleMySweets it was definitely a challenge. I'm originally from Illinois & I had a massive amount of houseplants & a garden every year. It took my a while before I was able to keep anything alive here but once I got the hang of it, there was no stopping me. All my plants, inside & outside give me a sense of peace & calm in our hectic lives. And I can't think of a better way to give back than by sharing what I grow. If you're thinking of moving to Arizona, be prepared for culture shock & summer temps of 110° to 122°+. The first summer I was here it broke a record & was 122°. But I still can't think of anywhere else I would want to be except maybe my own private island in the tropics somewhere! LOL!😁
I have a huge tomato plant covered with blooms. I have grown it all winter on my sun porch. I intend to do more then one this fall. I have basil, aloe Vera, and a host of succulents And A Philodendron.
Here's a tip I got from another RUclipsr: use empty water and soda bottles with the labels removed, in the bottom of your planters to help with drainage and use a lot less soil! It works great especially in large planters!
Ivy is easy to propagate Take the clippings, pull off some bottom leaves and you can root them in water. Even better to dip the roots in rotting hormone but not necessary. I love Ivy. You can also use it on live floral decor.
Good morning sunshine!! I just bought the things to make 2 different planters you did. I'm so glad this video popped up. It shows me everything I needed to know. Thank you so very much!! Have a fantastic day today. Much love. 🌷❣️🌹
I have 3 peace lily plants in my house. I got one when my brother died last year and 2 more when my sister was murdered 2 months ago. I’m trying to keep them alive. It’s the first live plant I’ve had since I was little. Never really had a green thumb, but these mean more to me so I’m doing my best!!
Zone 10/ Southern California- I have globe artichokes in pots, asparagus and various herbs. Getting ready to pot up potatoes this weekend. We also have several plumeria trees and palms🌴🌞🌴
Things I have in pots now include (in addition to houseplants) potatoes, tomatoes, lettuce, peppers, garlic, green onions. Probably some other things. Also flowers: petunias, snapdragons, violets, alyssum. Most of my stuff is in the ground but it's nice to have a few things in containers.
I have a clearanced coneflower that I originally planted in the ground last fall in a container. I put it in there because it wasn’t doing well after the winter and am nursing it back to health. It seemed like it was dying in the ground. It was only a temporary rescue but it is loving the pot and I will return it to the ground after it is stronger. Next year I am going to have several flower planters on my deck. I plan to plant my cannas in them. Last year I grew all my Bell peppers in planters and got a really nice harvest.
At one time I had a house full of plants. However, my cat “Romeo “ has developed a taste for them. Now I grow potted plants outside. Since I live in Arizona, my plants are under my front or back porch. The front gets the harshest sun, so lots of flowering perennials. The back porch has some flowers such as Geraniums, but the majority are succulents. I’m constantly giving cuttings to everyone including my Vet. I use to have an herb garden, but I can no longer tend to it.
buy him a little grass kit specifically for kitties. in that case he will have his own grass to chew on 😉 and will stop eating yours. Learned from experience.
@@carolynbrown4112 Hi Carolyn, I keep them moist and in bright light until all danger of frost is past. I take outside in shade and every day or so move closer to sunlight, keep moist but not soaked.Yes they do drop a few leaves when taken out and when they come in.Fun to see how long I can keep.Good luck !
Again, totally great ideas and just in time for spring! Thank you so much!!!! I'm really excited to start getting my sunroom ready and boy, did you help! 😊👍🌿🌵🌸🌾🍀💛
I went to Dollar Tree to find flower pots and didnt have any at mine. I will have to go to other Dollar Trees and look. Love your ideas for the flower pots! Thank you. You are very talented and creative!!
I have quite a few containers full of beauty both inside and out. I am growing Dianthus, different daisy varieties, Irish moss, and succulents outside in my fairy garden worlds. Inside I am growing tons! I have almost 100 indoor plants and love them all!

I am a serial plant killer but I currently have yellow marigolds in planters. Fingers crossed because it's been two weeks and they are still alive!

You can also use shredded newspapers
Pool noodles…awesome 😊
Styrofoam is not good for plants, vegetable, nothings, for that you need perlite, better than that❤
I just saw the cut up pool oodles trick yesterday and couldn’t figure out why I hadn’t thought of that already. It seems to work perfectly

Oh and lavender! I would love to grow some of that!
Wow! That is awesome!! Good for you!! 🙌🤗❤️✨🌿
I have a gardenia that’s doing great. I started it from a flower I wore in my hair for a couple of days, and it took!
Everything for real for me I have from corn to asparagus cauliflower a salad, tea, husband, blueberries, strawberries. I love it.
I grow orchids, succulents, cactus, ferns, roses, hibiscus, lilies, so much more. Fiddle leaf fig my fav.
Thanks. I’m modern minimalist and surprised the white with the gems might be my favorite. The gray with the beads is a close 2nd.
I have a lot of live plants...love Month of May when most come back to life and I get to add new
I love to put a Foxglove as a centerpiece. I have lots coming up in my garden and can pot them
Love the clothes basket planter. What a way to save a bundle! Planters, aside from $Tree can be quite ridiculously expensive. 😊🪴
I enjoyed this video.Thank you for sharing. XO from Tennessee
Glad you enjoyed it!
Loved, loved this video. Such good ideas for making pots. You’ve inspired me.
I have many things growing all year from clippings from store bought vegetables and seeds from fruits.
Onions (green, cooking, purple, Spanish and vadalia)
Horseradish from roots, ginger from risomes, romaine lettuce from core roots, celery from core root, broccoli from core stem,
Orange tree from seed, papaya from seeds, apple tree from seeds, pineapple from leafy root.
I'm always trying to grow anything that I have bought but I also forage to find plants to grow for medicines.
I do have many house plants as well.
Those jewel stickers are beautiful to me.
You have great ideas and tips for planting flowers and seeds. Everything looks very nice. I know this is from 2y ago. All in all you have a great channel. Have a wonderful week. 😀👍👍
Wow, all those planters were really great!!
Love your decorative white planter pot
The tall plants turned out so pretty.
Have loads of plants in pots. Herbs veges flowers hanging and climbing baskets. Just getting into seasoning pots - so autumn - winter and spring - summer plants so hopefully will begin to have semi - continuous planters. Love your diys thank you for your ideas. Blessings
YES! I THOUGHT I WAS THE ONLY ONE WHO USED STYROFOAM. WORKS GREAT! even in the ground
My 100 roses all are in the the pots and come back every year for me.
Great pot ideas. I have several potted plants. Mother's tongue, succulents ferns and others. Love plants.
Love the video! I have green beans successfully growing upside down in a hanging pot.
All your planters you made are so beautiful. What great ideas I love all of them. Thank you. Blessings.
I love in Florida and the summer is so hot everything burns up, but I grow cactus and succlents, and they do great!
All were really nice. Like the idea of using a hanging plant that has a variety to use.

So many plants! Is it challenging gardening in AZ? My dream is to move to AZ someday and I always wonder what gardening will be like!
I have basil, aloe Vera, and a host of succulents
And
A
Philodendron.
Here's a tip I got from another RUclipsr: use empty water and soda bottles with the labels removed, in the bottom of your planters to help with drainage and use a lot less soil! It works great especially in large planters!
Great idea
I do that, too! Makes it sooo much lighter!
No way! Doing this forever now
Do you leave kids on or off
Lids not kids. Lol
Red Robin and Micro Tom tomatoes! They are micro.. no more that 12" high! 👍 Thanks for making the video, God Bless.
I have an ivy plant I have had for years, I have to cut sometimes and replanted in another pot. Love it.
Ivy is easy to propagate Take the clippings, pull off some bottom leaves and you can root them in water. Even better to dip the roots in rotting hormone but not necessary. I love Ivy. You can also use it on live floral decor.
Sage, Rosemary abd luckily flat leaf parsley made it through the Winter here in zone 7.😊
fantastic ideas, loved the laundry basket and bag.
I am growing supertunias. No deading heading.Water and fertilize. Happy gardening. MK
I mostly grow veggies in containers and I know they can be pricey. Your ideas are amazing!
I have a air plane plant I have had for about 12 years. And Christmas cactuses, hydrangeas, wandering jew.
I have several $2 Poinsettias from past Xmas that I kept and gave them lots of TLC, they are now about 2 feet in height.
That's awesome!!
Hi,style my sweet,I also have 3year old piontsitta plant. A lot of fun to see how long I can keep it !Good luck with your plants,♥️👵
@@patriciajustice5299 My poinsettias always die, I am curious how do you care for yours to Last long? Do they shed their leaves?
@@carolynbrown4112 Hi Carolyn, I keep them moist and in bright light until all danger of frost is past. I take outside in shade and every day or so move closer to sunlight, keep moist but not soaked.Yes they do drop a few leaves when taken out and when they come in.Fun to see how long I can keep.Good luck !
@@patriciajustice5299 Thank you!!!
Again, totally great ideas and just in time for spring! Thank you so much!!!! I'm really excited to start getting my sunroom ready and boy, did you help!
😊👍🌿🌵🌸🌾🍀💛
Please keep us updated every so often on how your lettuces are doing!! I'm thinking of doing that!!
Yes, I do regular updates on everything in my Instagram stories! Most of the seeds have sprouted are beginning to come up now! I can't wait!
Love love that last trifle bowl planter!

I went to Dollar Tree to find flower pots and didnt have any at mine. I will have to go to other Dollar Trees and look. Love your ideas for the flower pots! Thank you. You are very talented and creative!!
Hope you can find some! I just found mine recently!
I have quite a few containers full of beauty both inside and out. I am growing Dianthus, different daisy varieties, Irish moss, and succulents outside in my fairy garden worlds.
Inside I am growing tons! I have almost 100 indoor plants and love them all!
Wow! That's amazing! 🙌🌿✨
