Cross 2 - Ground Aluminum art piece

  • This is a simple cross on ground Aluminum sheet. It was lightly airbrushed with a deep blue to give a bit of depth to it. The video shows how the viewing angle can change the brightness of the "rays" behind the cross.
    The glossiness comes from a coat of clear resin which protects the aluminum, and gives it a beautiful finished look.
    (also: the home made contraption I use to make the camera orbit the piece is...not as stable as I'd like. It's on the list of things to fix)

    I still cant figure out how to get straight lines with grinding, you did great with this piece

      This piece was made with a battery powered Dremel using abrasive polishing bits. To get straight lines I used blue masking tape to mask off the area I was working on and then used the Dremel polishing bit to grind the metal. Because of the barrel shape of the bits, the grind marks are also straight. The two main keys to keep in mind when doing this is to cover each masked segment with grind marks that are consistent in their direction, and to not let any two neighboring sections have the overall same direction for those grind marks.
