Buzz's house is a tad ugly, but Aunt Jackies' house isn't any better. Maybe Aunt Jackies' house is the better idea so you can save money to buy a better house, and then perhaps maybe your mom can move in after you leave? Fixing up Aunt Jackies' house won't cost as much as owning Buzz's place.

Not saying you want my advice, but i would go with aunt jackies place first to get your feet wet. Get accustomed to paying bills and taking care of the house, lawn, etc. Owing is awesome as well, but it can go south very fast and can trash your credit. Just my opinion. There are always gonna be nice houses for sale somewhere. Like they always say, never rush into anything without sitting on it for awhile. Hope i helped somewhat. Peace.............. Plus, aunt jackie will prob let you do what you want to as long as it is within reason. I've owned and rented. Owning, if something breaks, you have to fix it. If your renting, usually it's their house and they have to take care of it. JMO

I never commented on a page before but I feel you need some adult advice. Like Uncle Larry said, you need to put aside feeling of what feels "good" or "empowering" & do a list of cost breakdowns. What are all expenses at Jackies' vs. Buzz. e.i. monthly mortgage payment, electricity, water, gas/propane, insurance, taxes, phone,cable,Internet,food & misc expenses. Then additional cost at Buzz's would be lawn maintenance (do you have lawn equipment-mower,show blower,rake for leafs ?) How about trash collection fees. You need extra $ for damages or repairs to inside/outside property. I think you need to just do cost comparisons on each property because the last thing you want is to be in Buzz's spot a month in & can't pay the bills then have to ask your Dad to move back in. Imagine the pleasure he would have with that. Be careful, don't rush into an important decision like this & maybe talk to a financial planner. Good luck!

Listen Jess. There's 2 things you gotta think about. 1) Buzz's place has one huge issue. The fact that you're too young, and blinded by pride, to make a commitment to a full house. 2) Aunt Jackie's has a huge problem in that you'd have to build upon what's already there. That being said, you wouldn't have to worry about the huge commitment of mortgage, home owners insurance, etc.
But the good thing about Buzz's place is that, you would own it. You wouldn't have to worry about being too loud, or anything like that, because it's your property.

Hey. You keep talking about 30000 dollar down payment. Make sure that you understand that a down payment is not usually all you will have to pay for the house. If he spent 80000 on the house the down payment will go towards the house and you will still owe 50000. Then you will have to worry about loans for the remainder. Be sure you ask all of that and that you can be preapproved for the entire amount.

Owning a house is good when he's set. Don't just think that paying a monthly bill is just it. There home maintence, paying off the mortgage and loan. Plus electric, water, internet/tv. It's not that simple. When you step outside that little bubble of yours. You'll understand real life.
