  • In this video I try to find out if I'm actually getting any better. Watch as I redraw cringy past work, refine awkward characters, and give them a new life with updated skills and a fresh perspective. This process proves that practice truly makes progress-and maybe some good laughs too.

    As someone who is struggling to find their illustration style, and regularly gets frustrated, seeing your early work showing the same apprehension is so comforting, knowing where you are now.
    I love this idea and would love to see more videos like this and you explaining what has changed in your style/confidence etc. Your channel is such a comfort to me and I love your work so much so thank you for putting in so much effort, it is appreciated!

    Yes! Everything I am drawing now will get redone by future me and you give me hope it will be better. Like, now they are great ideas but my skill is not there to bring them to life in the way my minds eye sees them. Skils and techniques gaind over reputation and many that you have shared too, will make future me awesome, like you. I just have to get there.
    Thanks Chris.

    I'm just getting into graphic design professionally and I am really enjoying your channel! This video has taught me to ask "What is this character thinking/feeling?" to help motivate interesting expressions.

    Its always amazing to go back and look at old art work just to see how much you have improved or how your style has changed. Great video amazing work as always.

    great seeing your redo your old work and yes, it's helpful and looks way better. The shape drawings and colors of the modern versions feel more confident.
    I also redo some of my drawings, loving seeing the progress I've made. I'm more detailed now and the lines ooze more confidence.

    I think we are always our own worst critic. Seriously, your original wasn't that bad! and I soooo appreciate you sharing your older work. Yes, you are miles improved from your old style and you are a great inspiration for starting a drawing a day to work out a personal style of drawing. And, I also love that you have warned against getting complacent after finding a style.. gotta keep going! Thanks Chris! I absolutely love your work and the fact that you share your process and ADHD struggles! Also, you make me laugh! :)

    One thing that I noticed is to trust your method.
    I still regret using guidelines in figures which is good overall but not for me. So I tried to use this method for my next arts and it was so frustrating. It destroyed my mind cuz you just think about line , not about the actual art !
    Now im just using the old method of "drawing eye and then the face " which is more suitable for me.
    Btw great channel ❤

      Yeah, sometimes you have to just trust in your process!

    I get this feeling a lot but I guess it’s part of the process. If people liked it back then, then it worked.
    It’s good that you find it bad cause that means you’ve gotten better.
    At least that’s what I like to think so avoid that imposter syndrome creeping in every few weeks.

    Anyone that hates their own art shouldn't be an artist cuz every art is amazing and you will get better as you go. You should never be hard on yourself about anything. Life happens. Life is full of many surprises so enjoy it. Never be hard on yourself. What are you doing? If you were hard on yourself, your body deserves love and imagination so treat it very very good cuz life is amazing and never ever be hard on yourself

      I dunno, I think it's pretty common for artists to hate their work from time to time, especially old stuff. It can be a great motivator to make more and better art. I appreciate most of your sentiment though!

    I have no concern with my art getting better because i have learned to appreciate the value in having my own style Having my own style could make me more money than following All my favorite artist big and indie hace they own style and dont follow the rules

    • @chris-piascik
      @chris-piascik  8 дней назад +2

      I don’t consider better and style to be related. My style has stayed pretty consistent as my work has improved.

    Man, i have a very simple, but complex question. How can we animate a longer drawing? How did u do for the video clip for example. You do separated documents and takes or you do everything in a single document?

    • @chris-piascik
      @chris-piascik  День назад

      Fresco's motion tools are really geared towards looping continuing motion as opposed to sequential animation like you'd find in traditional animation software. From time to time I will make individual sequences in Fresco and then bring them together in Photoshop or a video editing app-just because some things are so much easier to animate in Fresco. In this video I assume you are talking about the animated version of me. I did that one in Adobe Character animator because it makes the lip sync so easy. I made a video about that a couple weeks ago.
