I remeber going to the bar right after a horrible day of work for a beer and some food and this was on the TV , I was like " is that fucking peter gabriel on a segway?!?" Made my night ...
I love Peters art. Some people are musicians but Peter Gabriel is an artist who uses his music as a backdrop. We need more people like him. If you're not pissing 1/3 of your audience off then your artistic message needs to be reconsidered.
@atoosas This show was called "Jeux sans frontières" (Games without frontiers in french), which is what he sings in the "chorus" that was sung by Kate Bush in the original version. The show has been adapted in the UK with the title "It's a knockout!"
Peter Gabriel is a Great singer and I think he has a big imagination to presents his shows to the world (e.g: ovo tour) . graserman64 i think he was trying to relate the game with that, I can imaging them playing as children, it could be a possibility.
Folks have complained about the Segways? C'mon, people! Gabriel's been a showman since his Genesis days. What do you want him to do now? Sit in nice La-Z-Boys singing his hits? Great version of the song - waaaaaay back when in college a guy in my dorm would blast this song 1/2 hour before each scheduled final exam period. It would get us pumped before the exams (and wake up anybody who crashed while studying).
i love the idea with the segways.. let's the old coot pull of some sweet quick moves without causing a heart attack. and some 20 years after listening to this song i finally realize the one line i could never figure out is actually in french, not english. thanks youtube comments!
I appreciate his music and performances more over Time. Never tire of watching his videos......just noticed his "Papal like" Wave toward the end, always a little odd. lol!
The man who died, Jimi Hasalden, didn’t invent the Segway, but had not long since bought the company, when he died. Apparent cause of death was falling off a cliff while riding a Segway, in West Yorkshire, England.
@SuperAWaC This video is taken from the "Still growing up live" DVD which, unlike the regular "Growing up live" DVD, is indeed made up of footage shot at various venues throughout Europe. I have both DVDs and though the "Still..." one contains some of my personal favorites that he rarely plays live, I prefer the regular one which is much better in terms of visual show.
@Songs4LovesGods Indeed, this is SO great! May I offer why this is so great? Nearly 4 decades ago, my friends looked not at race, color, creed. We knew in 1976 when I was 18 we are all human, nothing else. "dressing up in costumes, playin silly games". We did that and laughed about it.
@greaseman64 Peter Gabriel has always been a sucker for new technologies, so it's no wonder he used a Segway. And like Cassiel pointed out, it could very well be a reference to the Segway accident. Ironically, the company owner died last month from a Segway accident over a cliff...
Worried, really worried I remain here. This is great video, great song and the focal point remains a Seg? The man has some age? Oh my, really worried who cares for me when I get old.
George Carlin said it best, "That's what I consider myself to be, an 'old fuck'. 'Old fuck' is a very special term. It's not like 'old man'. 'Old man' is different. 'Old man' isn't really a time in your life or a period of years. It's an attitude. 'Old man' is point of view. It's a way of lookin' at things. Some guys are 'old men' when they're in their twenties"...

@Cassiel2007 Well, it IS Games without Frontiers, and the original Game without Frontiers was a weird game show in France, according to Wikipedia. So may be he's keeping with the weirdness of the game itself.
There is one politician at North American continent who like to send his army to many contires in the world to bring them democracy and other goods. So once that politician has fallen off a segway though its' inventor was sure that it's impossible. Using segway here is quite conformed to peaceful message of the tune.
@CaroVonAuersfeld well Gabriel marches around the stage during this song like a soldier from the Nazi regime from WWII...I've seen him live several times and brings his arm up as well, so he emulates their entire march and shows it on the video that plays in the backdrop ... he is making a statement with this song ..... i'm not promoting or trying to make any political statement , just observing what I see.
@cutta1966 I guess so. I saw video many years ago. It's about innocent kids playing "WAR" and kids will play with anyone, regardless of race. It seemed like innocent song to me about playing a game of pretend.
@VirgilwithanE The album version dates back to 1980 dude, of course it doesn't sound as good as a modern recording! However, I still prefer the original, it was more creative in terms of sonic experimentations, and also had a more playful feel.
@jatdesi13 lovely song would like to dedicate this song to a beautiful girl Nita , whom i travel with to office - she has saved my life unkowingly , wishing to marry her but my past is stoping me from asking her out
@frazerpmobrien My apologies. I assume you refer to Mayan long calender? Some say 12/22/2012 is end time? Or 23 as it were. Recently "discovered" brick as it were says he/she descends from the air? Or so those who study say? Said brick was installed backwards as if not meant to see? Or at least not to the commoners?
@frazerpmobrien My bad, took a sec for me to get the humor, reference, etc. I know, have less time than that my friend, remain aware I do. Tipping point looms quickly. But thank you for noticing, saying?
One of the greatest showmen in the history of Rock 'N Roll.
Peter Gabriel is a great singer, and has a big imagination to presents his shows.
This was such an amazing looking show..
He's a genius.. He knows exactly what the visuals should be for his music..
You got to remember Segways came out round about then,Gabriel was so avant garde then, must have blown there minds.
I remeber going to the bar right after a horrible day of work for a beer and some food and this was on the TV , I was like " is that fucking peter gabriel on a segway?!?" Made my night ...
one of the best "chilling", "exciting", "brilliant" song. always give me the feeling of "war is coming"
Wow...he is one of the most...if not the most..brilliant performance artists of all time..in addition to being such an interesting composer...
Peter Gabriel is the epitome of cool. He could care less what any of us think about "riding a segway" WHO GIVES A SH--!! The music is awesome!
This is pretty cool. That whole (1980) album is great.
Awesome song and performance. This clip actually made me buy the DVD.
einer der besten Musiker unserer Zeit!^^
He is so amaazing that guy. He is my favorite singer!!!! I am a fan of him!!!!
Omg how did I miss this all these years!
Great song and good show. Love it. Peter is the best.
She's so funky, Yeah!!
STILLLLLLL KILLING IT...GOD LOVE HIM..
I love Peters art.
Some people are musicians but Peter Gabriel is an artist who uses his music as a backdrop. We need more people like him. If you're not pissing 1/3 of your audience off then your artistic message needs to be reconsidered.
I can't believe peter gabriel can rock a segway
I love the absurdity of it!
I LOVE that little keyboard riff throughout the song! Especially on this version. Makes the song sound more tear-jerking, lol.
It sounds so much better in this key. And I love how Tony Levin just takes a picture at the end of the song.
Segway, the ultimate prosthetic god. Thank you Freud!
the best song ever made i gru up with rap music and i still live at 40
Absolute Awesome.
@atoosas This show was called "Jeux sans frontières" (Games without frontiers in french), which is what he sings in the "chorus" that was sung by Kate Bush in the original version. The show has been adapted in the UK with the title "It's a knockout!"
Now every time I see a Segway I'm gonna think of Peter Gabriel.
Peter Gabriel is a Great singer and I think he has a big imagination to presents his shows to the world (e.g: ovo tour) . graserman64 i think he was trying to relate the game with that, I can imaging them playing as children, it could be a possibility.
I like the segways and his facial expressions. These separate musician from those who are artists who use the musical spectrum to express themselves.
LoL, I'm glad I wasn't the only one who thought Kate Bush was singing "She's so popular" when they were a kid... =P
Man's got style.
very Gabriel,very brilliant
Peter reminds me of Uncle Fester on the Addams Family!
LOVE THISB SONG
PETER GABRIEL - Games without Frontiers 2003 ces bien et ces cool pour les 2 guerre mondiale nous Frontiers
What a great Performance !
I really like this Version.
That drummer is badass
Who needs Genesis Peter has done a wonderfull job on his own.
I'm sorry but the Segways rolling around the stage is totally Spinal Tap-ish.
Of course it is! It's a Peter Gabriel set piece!
i love the idea with the segways.. let's the old coot pull of some sweet quick moves without causing a heart attack. and some 20 years after listening to this song i finally realize the one line i could never figure out is actually in french, not english. thanks youtube comments!
Guess he wanted to look like a robot, and he knows that a Segway is the best way to achieve that.
@SnakeWearingaVest
Peter Gabriel is timeless. As good as it gets for sure.
I appreciate his music and performances more over Time. Never tire of watching his videos......just noticed his "Papal like" Wave toward the end, always a little odd. lol!
I rode a Segway once and it's really hard! I would've driven it off of the stage and into the front row!! 😂😂😂
The inventor of Segway actually drove off a cliff and died on one in Ca.
+Paul Sowinski Yes, I've heard that 😳
Paul Sowinski not true
The man who died, Jimi Hasalden, didn’t invent the Segway, but had not long since bought the company, when he died. Apparent cause of death was falling off a cliff while riding a Segway, in West Yorkshire, England.
Mel's got really similar eyes, never noticed that before.
Jay Trader yes she has her father's eyes
This is awesome...
I have loved this song for decades, but this video is bizarre.
I like it!;-)
peter gabriel de la perfection
Peter Gabriel >Brave Man< !!!
@SuperAWaC This video is taken from the "Still growing up live" DVD which, unlike the regular "Growing up live" DVD, is indeed made up of footage shot at various venues throughout Europe. Peter please come to the NW, USA

LEGEND
@astronautagogo you are so right brother.. good thing there are still people like Flavor Flav around to keep it real
Peter's daughter looks like Peter when he was in Genesis
this video rocks!
AWESOME!!!!!
@Psalm696969 lol, I'm aware of what decade the song's from. And I agree with you there, the record version DOES sound more "active"
AWESOME

Well, I kicked the habit, and shed my skin, 8 days off dope, and benzos, and methadone, and cigarettes.
LOL That looks like fun!
I like how his daughter moves roboticaloy

@Cassiel2007 Well, it IS Games without Frontiers, and the original Game without Frontiers was a weird game show in France, according to Wikipedia. So may be he's keeping with the weirdness of the game itself.
@EnergiewendeMagazin :You are correct.
No need to say sorry. Our "evolved" minds
should get us beyond petty hatred.

So once that politician has fallen off a segway though its' inventor was sure that it's impossible. Using segway here is quite conformed to peaceful message of the tune.
Games without Frontiers (Live)
They remind me of the Borg the way they're rolling around with the headset mics...
Rewelacja!

this concert remind me of stanley
kubrick.
@Nercrophage
That's because he's the only one who can make doing that, look more than interesting!
segways are friggin' hilarious and peter gabriel knows that.
I thought it was she's so popular also, but it's Jeux san frontieres."
This is cool!
AMAZING x
looks like this was cut from several performances... unless i am crazy and they have clones playing on different stages at the same time.
Woot!!!
@florinovich Indeed.
@cutta1966 I guess so. I saw video many years ago. It's about innocent kids playing "WAR" and kids will play with anyone, regardless of race. It seemed like innocent song to me about playing a game of pretend.
If looks could kill, they probably will.........
See? My grandpa is hip!
@VirgilwithanE The album version dates back to 1980 dude, of course it doesn't sound as good as a modern recording! However, I still prefer the original, it was more creative in terms of sonic experimentations, and also had a more playful feel.
A segue? A wee bit dangerous, awesome!
His daughter looks just like him.
@jatdesi13
lovely song would like to dedicate this song to a beautiful girl Nita , whom i travel with to office - she has saved my life unkowingly , wishing to marry her but my past is stoping me from asking her out
