As a general hub, Somniel's looking quite solid as a MyCastle successor. My only hope that characters do acknowledge the events of the main plot and provide their insight on it, similar to how Three Houses and Three Hopes' hubs do it.
that was one of my favorite things in three houses, comments on current events and the progression locked supports made possible for characters to comments abouts specific events in the story.
Celine's dialogue at 15:25 seem to indicate we will see context specific dialogue, unless "this battle" refers to the entire plot of the game and not a specific battle.
Having the students interact with one another/the events of the story was one of my favorite parts of Three Houses/Hopes. Especially when the interactions changed based on if a (recruitable) unit died. Hearing the students talk about having to kill their own classmates (especially post timeskip Ferdinand, Ashe and Lorentz) was honestly heartbreaking to me and I hope that Engage lives up to that
I hope outfits can be customized for battles too. There’s some character designs that are too much right now, I’ma put those people in more generic soldier/dancer/mage clothes…

Actually, the English version of Fates did have the blowing into the mic stuff. I remember being asked to give my partner a blow j- uh, blow on them after coming back from a bath and it was a bit uncomfortable. I rubbed the mic instead.
As far as Panette's design, her bio on the website does say she has strange interests and likes such as ghost stories and bugs so her outfit makes sense in that way. It also seems like she's trying to hide those aspects and be more proper in her convo with Timerra. Also the casual outfits and accessories are locked to just being seen in Somniel and not worn during battles so there's that
How do you know outfit customization only shows up in Somniel? I don't remember that ever being stated... It'd be so disappointing if that was the case, especially after that beautiful "slay in style" pun that seemed to imply it'd be possible to dress up for combat.
@@Faerghast Just in case Engage doesn't live up to expectation, there's Vestaria Saga 2 on Steam. It's a Strategy game directed by the original creator of Fire Emblem Shouzou Kaga.
I still can't get over how the "Everything Else" section is presented. They mention fishing, fortune telling, amiibos, the bedroom... then right in the middle of it is probably the most non-Fire Emblem thing possible, a Panzer Dragoon wyvern flight sim thing, and it says *absolutely nothing about it*. No explanation. It just there. They don't even give it a name. It's so weird.
Character design issues is something the FE community will never get over with It’s funny everytime I played games with awful designs but in the end it doesn’t matter if it’s a good game

Story wise it seems as though fire emblem engage will be as good if not slightly better then fire emblem 1 but not anywhere as good as shadows of Valentia or three houses. This game seems to avoid fates level of story telling although it seems to have to fates level of gameplay and fates level of map design, i haven’t listened to enough of the music to have an opinion on the Ost. Characters seems generic. Story and character will be the least creative part of the game, with that being said, where this game will rank will solely depend on the music now that we know how good the map design, gameplay and battle animations and visuals look. Awakening has better character designs then fire emblem engage. but I personally didn’t like the gameplay in awakening due to how the enemy units rush at you. Story will probably be as good as awakening if not slightly better.
@@aninymouse1651 Probably, but saying it's better than both Fates and 3H based on trailers which are notorious for generating unwarranted hype is being a bit over optimistic don't you think?
I’ve been avoiding a lot of information on Engage, but to me this entire trailer seems to be fundamentally at odds with the identity of the series. Fire Emblem is always about war, and while it isn’t especially gritty or anything, the games always depict war as a really awful thing that fucks people up. Everything about this trailer suggests to me that this game has nothing to do with war. There is no way they can have these characters going off to war, killing people, and watching their friends die and then immediately shift to Love Island after every single battle. If that’s what ends up happening it will be such an incredible degree of tonal whiplash that it will either completely ruin the game or make it absolutely hilarious.
Bingo! At this point it barely looks like a fire emblem game. Not saying everything needs to be doom and gloom because they’re at war but setting the tone is critical for the story.
@@AkaiOtinashi The “slay in style” line is probably going to be very indicative of this game’s tone. You will be killing people, but that’s actually cool and fun as long as you look hot doing it.
Honestly, the child units theory has legs. They've seemingly stopped revealing new characters and if this is it we're looking at the smallest roster in Fire Emblem history, or at best if some characters are recruitable after all it's in the bottom 3. A 2nd generation would fit the theme of old mechanic throwbacks, flesh out the roster a bit *and* build the feature back up again prior to a potential FE4 remake. It's definitely possible. Likely? No idea. We'll know in a month.
Hopefully this game has an endgame. We’re you can keep your whole crew you played through the game with. That along with world map is what I loved in past FE games like Sacred Stones, Awakening and Shadows of Valentia.
@@aninymouse1651 I really hope so. Infinite grinding is what gave me hundreds of hours of playtime in Fates. The game just being done after the final map in 3 houses really demotivated me for a long time. I'm the type that wants to give every available...thing...to every available unit, max out every stat, support, skills, everything.
I have two thoughts: One, I think what the intention with Elusia characters, or at least with Hortensia and her crew, is that they're going to be one way or another outsiders. Like Hortensia's whole clown get up screams like her character is going to be "I'm going to do what I like and what makes me happy, even if it isn't normal" to me, if that makes sense. Plus you have Rosado who regardless of how their gender expression turns out in the game is gender nonconforming, and Kagetsu who was born somehow outside of Elios. To me it just seems the direction those characters are going for is that something about them is going to put them out of the "norm" Second, I wouldn't be surprised if Engage ends up veering into a sci-fi type of direction. The modern clothing, the fact that Somniel is just a floating islands, how the characters look when they're engaged, how symmetric Elios is, all of these things make the world seem artificial in a way. I wouldn't be surprised if they pulled a "actually this game is set in a simulation world" or at least have something akin to the agarthans again.
the thing i am SO HAPPY about is the fact that weapon durability is no longer a thing. I can't possibly express how much I hated the fact that weapons (Especially special weapons like the heroes relics) had limited use before they broke.
Pannette, in her battle clip legit brings out her berserker aspects & tendencies. Just a good ol' time of "wait until you get the game before you judge."
I think you're judging characters like Panette a bit too early. Her thing seems to be that she's a thug that's trying to not be, but she keeps "relapsing". That's why she talks so overly polite in the support we saw. Her crit quote has her talk in a completely different tone from what I remember. Her bio also said she likes occult stuff. Regardless, we really can't say what does or doesn't fit until we play the game. I like all the designs so far, personally.
I have come to accept that Engage is the silly anniversary Fire Emblem game. All my usual expectations for the series are not going to be fulfilled with this title, all I ask though is that the gameplay is insanely fun and not easy. A Genealogy remake will heal my soul someday soon.
honestly, i expected a genealogy remake after three houses. both games are some of the darker titles in the series, and the battalion system looks like it would fit the more large scale battles in genealogy
@@Underworlder5 According to leaks corroborated by multiple sources, after Shadows of Valentia, IntSys began work on a FE4 Remake for the 3DS but scrapped the idea in 2018. It was never mentioned whether they continued development but it's speculated that they transferred development of the remake to the Switch in the same year and have been working on it the last few years. I wouldn't at all be surprised if it drops late 2023- early 2024, since Engage has been reported to be 'ready' for release for over a year now.
I'm really torn Because on one hand, gameplay is easily Genealogy's weak point On the other hand, the strength is it's writing, which you kinda can't really improve So is a remake needed or pointless
@@1stCallipostle Enhance the gameplay, add much needed QOL features while leaving the story unchanged but enhancing the experience with making the game fully voiced and up the presentation to 11 by having bloody amazing cutscenes, gorgeous art direction and FKN beautiful character redesigns. A remake done right will make FE4 not only a MUCH more well known and respected title amongst not only modern FE fans but the mainstream audience at large as well in addition to providing one of the best SRPG's in history.
Am I the only one who's extremely concerned by the Bond Ring mechanics? I see no reason to make it randomized and based on a separate currency unless they intended to sell said currency for real money. Otherwise it just feels like a really poor design decision...
The more I look at this game, the more I understand that, smilier to Three Houses in some aspects, it's aiming to be more of a quote on quote "standard JRPG" than a quote on quote "normal Fire Emblem game," even if it is bringing back a lot of old mechanics. It's really odd considering the whole premise is a callback for long time fans of the series, yet it has a lot of other mechanics that not a lot of them would enjoy. Obviously, we'll see if this sticks or if it's just a one time thing and there's still the (supposed) FE(4?) remake, but even this far late I'm pretty skeptical of Engage, even though I'm pretty sure I'll like it just fine cause I like Fire Emblem.
You've said exactly what I was thinking. To me, this game feels more like a standard jrpg than fire emblem. I think that's why I'm not very excited. It does look fun but I play fire emblem for the stories, characters and worldbuilding first and foremost so I need more than fun gameplay in order to stay interested.

@@aninymouse1651 In the beginning some people did have a problem with the way Three Houses looked but I never had an issue with it. It looks plenty Fire Emblem to me. The designs are interesting yet grounded.
I gotta admit Alear is kinda growing on me, but I’m still kind of iffy about engage. The concept just feels like a spin off to me. Not exactly a bad thing but it will take some getting used to
I agree, it feels like a side game with a crossover element instead of a main game. It looks great gameplaywise, but I don't think the story will be great, since it has more focus on fanservice, you can see it was initially an anniversary game.

You're pretty misinformed about Panette, her character is about being a former "delinquent" with really weird tastes and a fascination for the occult that is trying to reform into a "proper noble woman" but is constantly failing at it. It's why her starting class is a Berserker of all things. Her weird make up is precisely a result of that where she heard that high class women wear make up but due to her old habits she went and did some pretty out there stuff with it. As for the modern looking outfits, people forget that this game is supposed to take place in the far future of all other Fire Emblem games possibly thousands of years even, where Ylisse was thousands of years after Marth's era of Archanaea which was also thousands of years after Sigurd's era of Jugdral. Is it really that weird for there to be some level of modernization after so many millennia at least with the clothing? People also conveniently forget that there where god damn nuclear missiles and mechs in Three Houses, yet a hoodie is going too far in Engage.
I'm calling it now: Maxing out Sommies affinity with Alear will either be what grants you the highest promotion tier for Alear, or be a kind of Echoes style overclass. I love the idea of just bonding with the plush toy, revealing more and more about what it is and how it's connected to Alear, and it's gonna turn out to be a part of your power locked away, and when you fully bond with it, it's gonna allow you to change into your ACTUAL dragon form!

The big thing that has me curious is the name of the area. "Somniel" is very similar to somnial/somnium. A concept that I am all to familiar with from AI Somnium Files. Somnial, like a dream and somnium a dream state has me curious that we might have a dream twist in the main story. I really enjoyed the somniel but I hope it doesn't feel as necessary as running around garrach mach did. Especially in additional play throughs of storylines I've already done. it really felt like a slog running around what felt like could of been done in menu's to make sure I didn't fall behind. To the subject of the more "modern" clothes I think its fine. I do agree having outfits from other games non-lords/main character would be cool but this is fine too. Part of me is hoping the emblams can have access to their different heroes outfits but that might be pushing it.
I'm so excited for player created maps, I've wanted this for so long! Edit: When you noticed that you can only have 1 map per account... I'm not so excited anymore.. That sucks so bad.
I missed the colourful design of the gameboy advance games sooo badly. I’m so excited by the way this game feels like it brought it back in a modern way.
Great video! I'm really stoked about the map maker! Not to make maps myself lol, but to play others! If you make any of your rom hack maps in it I'll definitely play them! I could see the "If Divine Dragon, also gain" just being a generic name, since you can change Alear's name similar to Byleth just being Professor to everyone, BUT I hope you're right and child units are back. Give me all the wacky FE gimmicks in this game lol. I've loved everything I've seen so far from Engage and I'm so down for all the weird, goofy stuff from the past to return. I'm glad we're only a month out from Engage!
At the end of the day I appreciate that a lot of these activities in Somniel are things that you can do on the side. My biggest issue with the monastery in Three Houses is that while you could skip through stuff, I felt like I was missing out on a ton if I didn’t put myself through it each month.
that is a glorious beard. Also, all the "criticism" over the art, just goes straight over my head, because A) I fucking love fire emblem, B) I fucking love it when they announce and we get a new entry into the series; C) I'd accept whatever art design they go for, because as you just said, 30:00, each designer is brought on to bring life to FE's characters, and that's what we'll get. If maybe, they had a permanent, life-long designer, (although it wouldn't be FE anymore), but the customers/fanbase would have a precedence/foundation for any criticism they may have. Just look at any other long-running anime franchise. They barely change up the formula for character design; D) Voicing out your own thoughts, or arguments for XYZ, in order receive agreement or persuade others of its validity, is an endeavor that ultimately results in nothing. We've already got the designs, the style, the flair, that's what the game is going to have on release. I don't care and am not gonna be affected by anything said online about XYZ, it will not change nor affect my own personal enjoyment. Its discourse for the sake of discourse.
I would compare the map maker to Aether Raids in FEH. Seems like for the most part its that but greatly expanded to be like a normal FE map as opposed to the bite sized FEH maps. Kinda excited to see just how far you can go here.
My character design take. I love Mika Pikazo's art and the engage 2d art really shines but the 3d models look weird. Alear's hair looks like its permanently frizzy.
Reactions like this one instead of the usual scripted analyses from time to time are great, too! Quite enjoyed My Castle in Fates so Somniel being its successor is good news in my book! Personally I don't mind the mix of casual and hardcore elements in more recent Fire Emblem games because most of the time it's under the player's control, the more options the better!
Im guessing that maybe NOA delayed the trailer in a way to better stretch out the english marketing for Engage, since most of the information thats been getting pumped out for us has been exclusively in Japanese
See I'm the opposite I really like the customization! A lot of that is cause I just like options for how they look. Like I know if the ponytail is an option for Alear I will absolutely always use that
I just wanna say I've been playing FE for 6-7 years now and only just now learned what the dodge stat is Also i can actually answer the Panette thing specifically: she's totally obsessed with ghosts, that's why she dresses all Gothic. But for my actual thoughts: Me personally, I'm a fan of all the outfit options! For two reasons. In every game I've ever played cosmetic choices have me foaming at the mouth, like I'm EMBARRASSINGLY into that. Even in past FE games with avatars I'd pick my avatar's class based on what costume looks coolest. Maid Corrin, Cleric Robin, and Archer Byleth being my favs. And id pick a lot of the other character's classes based on what looks coolest, for better or worse😭 So this is my bread and butter. And two, some of these mfs have REALLY ugly base outfits. Pandreo especially. I hate that guy and his horribly colored outfit. So the thought that there's alt outfits that are a bit easier on the eyes for some of these guys is incredibly appealing to me. Cuz as hard as I've been defending this game and its art, bc i DO mostly really like it, some of these characters do look kinda awful 💀 i did a 0-10 rating of every character in this game a few days ago And i gave about half the cast a 4 or lower and the other half a 7 or higher. The characters that are good, are REALLY good and the ones that are bad at pretty bad. Sure maybe I'm not a huge fan of how modern some of the alt outfits are, but since its completely and totally optional how often you see them its not bending me outta shape. If I think an outfit is ugly i just won't use it, y'know? What matters most to me is that the canon/base outfits are older fantasy themed ones. Other than the canon outfits they can run as absolutely wild as they want with optional ones. And with the exception of Panette and Hortensia, they all seem to be. The armor, capes, belts with bags, corsets, and frills you'd see on an old painting of a European Noble are alive and well! Every FE game has its weird designs so those two being weird is just kinda meh to me. I actually enjoy Panette's look, its really selling the love of ghosts to me. And I adore her eye makeup. And for Somniel being resort themed i just don't care much tbh i like what i like from it and anything i don't is not major enough to turn me off from it. I actually think most of it is pretty cute.
I'm not a fan of My Castle, so the only part of the Somniel I'm interested in is the shops and ring area with the skill building. I'm not crazy about a lot of designs in the game either, especially since it pulls me out of the medieval war fantasy. These designs just feel more TMS-like, even the lighting is too colorful for me, and just doesn't give the right vibe for a game featuring war crimes and other atrocities. I'm still holding out hope we get more unique characters who are associated with the main cast, and just have to be unlocked through paralogues or other events. I already have a feeling Veyle is another divine dragon that will be playable, but I feel like we won't have child units cause there's been 0 mention of them (then again, Idr if fates teased them pre-release).
I just like the art design.. as I did with most FE games.. that´s it. If people dislike it it, they can.. It´s just funny so many people complain about the design when I never seem to have an issue with it.
I honestly personally hope that we get child characters. I genuinely think it's an amazing mechanic that more games should have because it can be super fun and meta making or super casual and waifu/husbando hunting

The character designs in Engage all look like they're about to go on stage and put on a show. It feels out of place for these characters to be trying to look their best before heading off to battle. Also I haven't seen a single character call Alear by name yet so it seems like we'll be able to name our avatar. It was probably easier to just have "divine dragon" in the tooltips instead of a name.
Wait, if this is a medievil fantasy world, why are there modern clothes like sweat pants or t-shirts and workout gear? Did they give Itzuki Aoi an Emblem Ring too?
Seriously. All these problems people have about customization are completely avoidable. Just don't change their damn outfits if its so emersion breaking
When I watched the Japanese version I wasn’t sure about all this stuff. But the English trailer has me hyped again. Not sure why it was such a different vibe!
"Hey team, remember that game we sold in 3 different versions that mostly everyone either hated or disliked? Let's literally copy most of it" "Sir, you're a genius"
Is it weird that the main giveaway, for me, that this game culminates so many time periods is seeing the people exercising around 18:20 and immediately recognizing they are wearing quite modern leggings? (Including for us right here on earth. You know like legging designs if I were to go back 20 years, I wouldn’t see.) it’s kind of neat to see what they grab, from what time period, yet still keep in the age of classic weaponry and such. But I digress. Given they have such insanely good looking period-esque clothing in the game, I’d probably never see my characters in modern stuff outside the castle.

I want to state first that I’m someone who likes history quite a lot and loves it when i see things that would be historically accurate to the time period being presented or if it’s a fantasy would have something be accurate to the time period(s) the setting is taking inspiration from. With that in mind I don’t necessarily care if something is super ahistorical unless it’s just too much if a leap in logic (don’t put cannons in a setting based off the Roman Republic even if it’s a fantasy setting). Now FE obviously has had plenty of outfits that don’t really fit the setting but for the most part I can deal with that (sometimes I can’t help but get annoyed and taken out of the game like with F!Byleth’s outfits). It is a fantasy setting but it feels more down to earth and grounded than over the top. Engage, though, really pushes that limit if not crosses it and that hoodie or whatever that guy was wearing definitely crosses it. I know Ash had something like that in Houses but it was subtle and I didn’t notice it at first. this hoodie no. I’m still excited for the game but the designs (specifically the outfits) I don’t really like
Maybe the whole "if divine dragon" meal bonus is in regards to the dlc braclets like Tiki who makes the character turn into a dragon? Who knows, maybe Corrin's ring can turn the wearing into a dragon too but it hasnt been revealed yet
I agree that some of the outfits look too modern for a FE game, but I'll just choose not to buy those. I don't think children will come back, I think the other divine dragon that will be recruited is either Alear's mom, or this game's version of Azura (the girl hiding behind the tree in a previous trailer. she could very well be a dragon). I hope S-ranks are only for Alear. I liked the way Three Houses kept it a mystery as to which characters will end up together. The way some of the characters in game respond, it seems like the dialogue in the Somniel is not voiced and only contains voice clips, like Fates and Three Hopes. It's not that big a deal, but still a bummer for some reason.
i wonder if this game will have any new amibos for the fire emblem seires as the last one we got was byleths smash amiibo in 2021 and the last fire emblem seires we got was young tiki is oct of 2017 i also wonder how are outfits that dont have amiibo going to work like michia has an outfit but not an amiibo so will the outfits be random as long as its a fe amiibo
I had specifically imported female Corrin’s ambiibo and would have loved to have female Robin and Byleth…hoping we get both styles of Alear if they decide to release them.

Agreed. I hope they keep the dynamic storytelling of Three Houses, but I do like that this zone looks a lot smaller than Gareg Mach. XD

How do you know outfit customization only shows up in Somniel? I don't remember that ever being stated... It'd be so disappointing if that was the case, especially after that beautiful "slay in style" pun that seemed to imply it'd be possible to dress up for combat.
@@Faerghast Just in case Engage doesn't live up to expectation, there's Vestaria Saga 2 on Steam. It's a Strategy game directed by the original creator of Fire Emblem Shouzou Kaga.
I still can't get over how the "Everything Else" section is presented. They mention fishing, fortune telling, amiibos, the bedroom... then right in the middle of it is probably the most non-Fire Emblem thing possible, a Panzer Dragoon wyvern flight sim thing, and it says *absolutely nothing about it*. No explanation. It just there. They don't even give it a name. It's so weird.

Story wise it seems as though fire emblem engage will be as good if not slightly better then fire emblem 1 but not anywhere as good as shadows of Valentia or three houses. This game seems to avoid fates level of story telling although it seems to have to fates level of gameplay and fates level of map design, i haven’t listened to enough of the music to have an opinion on the Ost. Characters seems generic. Story and character will be the least creative part of the game, with that being said, where this game will rank will solely depend on the music now that we know how good the map design, gameplay and battle animations and visuals look. Awakening has better character designs then fire emblem engage. but I personally didn’t like the gameplay in awakening due to how the enemy units rush at you. Story will probably be as good as awakening if not slightly better.

I’ve been avoiding a lot of information on Engage, but to me this entire trailer seems to be fundamentally at odds with the identity of the series. Fire Emblem is always about war, and while it isn’t especially gritty or anything, the games always depict war as a really awful thing that fucks people up. Everything about this trailer suggests to me that this game has nothing to do with war. There is no way they can have these characters going off to war, killing people, and watching their friends die and then immediately shift to Love Island after every single battle. If that’s what ends up happening it will be such an incredible degree of tonal whiplash that it will either completely ruin the game or make it absolutely hilarious.
Bingo! At this point it barely looks like a fire emblem game. Not saying everything needs to be doom and gloom because they’re at war but setting the tone is critical for the story.

Honestly, the child units theory has legs. They've seemingly stopped revealing new characters and if this is it we're looking at the smallest roster in Fire Emblem history, or at best if some characters are recruitable after all it's in the bottom 3. A 2nd generation would fit the theme of old mechanic throwbacks, flesh out the roster a bit *and* build the feature back up again prior to a potential FE4 remake.
It's definitely possible. Likely? No idea. We'll know in a month.
They might have a smaller roster because you're going to have a couple dozen ring/bracelet units from FE history also paling around in your barracks.
Hopefully this game has an endgame. We’re you can keep your whole crew you played through the game with. That along with world map is what I loved in past FE games like Sacred Stones, Awakening and Shadows of Valentia.
All 3 of those games had a world map and infinite grinding. Very high chance Engage will be like that.
@@aninymouse1651 I really hope so. Infinite grinding is what gave me hundreds of hours of playtime in Fates. The game just being done after the final map in 3 houses really demotivated me for a long time.

I have two thoughts:
One, I think what the intention with Elusia characters, or at least with Hortensia and her crew, is that they're going to be one way or another outsiders. Like Hortensia's whole clown get up screams like her character is going to be "I'm going to do what I like and what makes me happy, even if it isn't normal" to me, if that makes sense. Plus you have Rosado who regardless of how their gender expression turns out in the game is gender nonconforming, and Kagetsu who was born somehow outside of Elios. To me it just seems the direction those characters are going for is that something about them is going to put them out of the "norm"
Second, I wouldn't be surprised if Engage ends up veering into a sci-fi type of direction. The modern clothing, the fact that Somniel is just a floating islands, how the characters look when they're engaged, how symmetric Elios is, all of these things make the world seem artificial in a way. I wouldn't be surprised if they pulled a "actually this game is set in a simulation world" or at least have something akin to the agarthans again.

the thing i am SO HAPPY about is the fact that weapon durability is no longer a thing.
I can't possibly express how much I hated the fact that weapons (Especially special weapons like the heroes relics) had limited use before they broke.
Pannette, in her battle clip legit brings out her berserker aspects & tendencies. Just a good ol' time of "wait until you get the game before you judge."
I think you're judging characters like Panette a bit too early. Her thing seems to be that she's a thug that's trying to not be, but she keeps "relapsing". That's why she talks so overly polite in the support we saw. Her crit quote has her talk in a completely different tone from what I remember. Her bio also said she likes occult stuff.
Regardless, we really can't say what does or doesn't fit until we play the game. I like all the designs so far, personally.
Personally, the only thing i didn't like in this trailer was Sommie... only because it reminded me of lilith which makes me sad.
I have come to accept that Engage is the silly anniversary Fire Emblem game. All my usual expectations for the series are not going to be fulfilled with this title, all I ask though is that the gameplay is insanely fun and not easy. A Genealogy remake will heal my soul someday soon.
I too hope for a Genealogy remake. That will bring my Fire Emblem excitement back.
honestly, i expected a genealogy remake after three houses. both games are some of the darker titles in the series, and the battalion system looks like it would fit the more large scale battles in genealogy
@@Underworlder5 According to leaks corroborated by multiple sources, after Shadows of Valentia, IntSys began work on a FE4 Remake for the 3DS but scrapped the idea in 2018. It was never mentioned whether they continued development but it's speculated that they transferred development of the remake to the Switch in the same year and have been working on it the last few years.
I wouldn't at all be surprised if it drops late 2023- early 2024, since Engage has been reported to be 'ready' for release for over a year now.

@@1stCallipostle Enhance the gameplay, add much needed QOL features while leaving the story unchanged but enhancing the experience with making the game fully voiced and up the presentation to 11 by having bloody amazing cutscenes, gorgeous art direction and FKN beautiful character redesigns.
A remake done right will make FE4 not only a MUCH more well known and respected title amongst not only modern FE fans but the mainstream audience at large as well in addition to providing one of the best SRPG's in history.

Am I the only one who's extremely concerned by the Bond Ring mechanics? I see no reason to make it randomized and based on a separate currency unless they intended to sell said currency for real money. Otherwise it just feels like a really poor design decision...
The more I look at this game, the more I understand that, smilier to Three Houses in some aspects, it's aiming to be more of a quote on quote "standard JRPG" than a quote on quote "normal Fire Emblem game," even if it is bringing back a lot of old mechanics. It's really odd considering the whole premise is a callback for long time fans of the series, yet it has a lot of other mechanics that not a lot of them would enjoy. Obviously, we'll see if this sticks or if it's just a one time thing and there's still the (supposed) FE(4?) remake, but even this far late I'm pretty skeptical of Engage, even though I'm pretty sure I'll like it just fine cause I like Fire Emblem.
You've said exactly what I was thinking. To me, this game feels more like a standard jrpg than fire emblem. I think that's why I'm not very excited.
It does look fun but I play fire emblem for the stories, characters and worldbuilding first and foremost so I need more than fun gameplay in order to stay interested.

3 Houses didn't look like a Fire Emblem game. Engage is doing a lot of the same things, but it looks more like a Fire Emblem game to me.

I agree, it feels like a side game with a crossover element instead of a main game. It looks great gameplaywise, but I don't think the story will be great, since it has more focus on fanservice, you can see it was initially an anniversary game.

You're pretty misinformed about Panette, her character is about being a former "delinquent" with really weird tastes and a fascination for the occult that is trying to reform into a "proper noble woman" but is constantly failing at it. It's why her starting class is a Berserker of all things.
Her weird make up is precisely a result of that where she heard that high class women wear make up but due to her old habits she went and did some pretty out there stuff with it.
As for the modern looking outfits, people forget that this game is supposed to take place in the far future of all other Fire Emblem games possibly thousands of years even, where Ylisse was thousands of years after Marth's era of Archanaea which was also thousands of years after Sigurd's era of Jugdral. Is it really that weird for there to be some level of modernization after so many millennia at least with the clothing?
People also conveniently forget that there where god damn nuclear missiles and mechs in Three Houses, yet a hoodie is going too far in Engage.
I'm calling it now: Maxing out Sommies affinity with Alear will either be what grants you the highest promotion tier for Alear, or be a kind of Echoes style overclass.
I love the idea of just bonding with the plush toy, revealing more and more about what it is and how it's connected to Alear, and it's gonna turn out to be a part of your power locked away, and when you fully bond with it, it's gonna allow you to change into your ACTUAL dragon form!
Either that or Sommie joins your party as a manakete class, transforming into some divine/astral dragon form in combat

The big thing that has me curious is the name of the area. "Somniel" is very similar to somnial/somnium. A concept that I am all to familiar with from AI Somnium Files. Somnial, like a dream and somnium a dream state has me curious that we might have a dream twist in the main story.
I really enjoyed the somniel but I hope it doesn't feel as necessary as running around garrach mach did. Especially in additional play throughs of storylines I've already done. it really felt like a slog running around what felt like could of been done in menu's to make sure I didn't fall behind.
To the subject of the more "modern" clothes I think its fine. I do agree having outfits from other games non-lords/main character would be cool but this is fine too. Part of me is hoping the emblams can have access to their different heroes outfits but that might be pushing it.
I'm so excited for player created maps, I've wanted this for so long!
Edit: When you noticed that you can only have 1 map per account... I'm not so excited anymore.. That sucks so bad.

Great video! I'm really stoked about the map maker! Not to make maps myself lol, but to play others! If you make any of your rom hack maps in it I'll definitely play them! I could see the "If Divine Dragon, also gain" just being a generic name, since you can change Alear's name similar to Byleth just being Professor to everyone, BUT I hope you're right and child units are back. Give me all the wacky FE gimmicks in this game lol. I've loved everything I've seen so far from Engage and I'm so down for all the weird, goofy stuff from the past to return. I'm glad we're only a month out from Engage!

At the end of the day I appreciate that a lot of these activities in Somniel are things that you can do on the side. My biggest issue with the monastery in Three Houses is that while you could skip through stuff, I felt like I was missing out on a ton if I didn’t put myself through it each month.

Also, all the "criticism" over the art, just goes straight over my head, because A) I fucking love fire emblem, B) I fucking love it when they announce and we get a new entry into the series; C) I'd accept whatever art design they go for, because as you just said, 30:00, each designer is brought on to bring life to FE's characters, and that's what we'll get. If maybe, they had a permanent, life-long designer, (although it wouldn't be FE anymore), but the customers/fanbase would have a precedence/foundation for any criticism they may have. Just look at any other long-running anime franchise. They barely change up the formula for character design; D) Voicing out your own thoughts, or arguments for XYZ, in order receive agreement or persuade others of its validity, is an endeavor that ultimately results in nothing. We've already got the designs, the style, the flair, that's what the game is going to have on release. I don't care and am not gonna be affected by anything said online about XYZ, it will not change nor affect my own personal enjoyment. Its discourse for the sake of discourse.

I would compare the map maker to Aether Raids in FEH. Seems like for the most part its that but greatly expanded to be like a normal FE map as opposed to the bite sized FEH maps. Kinda excited to see just how far you can go here.

Personally I don't mind the mix of casual and hardcore elements in more recent Fire Emblem games because most of the time it's under the player's control, the more options the better!

See I'm the opposite I really like the customization! A lot of that is cause I just like options for how they look. Like I know if the ponytail is an option for Alear I will absolutely always use that
I just wanna say I've been playing FE for 6-7 years now and only just now learned what the dodge stat is
Also i can actually answer the Panette thing specifically: she's totally obsessed with ghosts, that's why she dresses all Gothic.
But for my actual thoughts:
Me personally, I'm a fan of all the outfit options! For two reasons. In every game I've ever played cosmetic choices have me foaming at the mouth, like I'm EMBARRASSINGLY into that. Even in past FE games with avatars I'd pick my avatar's class based on what costume looks coolest. Maid Corrin, Cleric Robin, and Archer Byleth being my favs. And id pick a lot of the other character's classes based on what looks coolest, for better or worse😭
So this is my bread and butter.
And two, some of these mfs have REALLY ugly base outfits. Pandreo especially. I hate that guy and his horribly colored outfit. So the thought that there's alt outfits that are a bit easier on the eyes for some of these guys is incredibly appealing to me.
Cuz as hard as I've been defending this game and its art, bc i DO mostly really like it, some of these characters do look kinda awful 💀
i did a 0-10 rating of every character in this game a few days ago
And i gave about half the cast a 4 or lower and the other half a 7 or higher.
The characters that are good, are REALLY good and the ones that are bad at pretty bad.
Sure maybe I'm not a huge fan of how modern some of the alt outfits are, but since its completely and totally optional how often you see them its not bending me outta shape. If I think an outfit is ugly i just won't use it, y'know?
What matters most to me is that the canon/base outfits are older fantasy themed ones. Other than the canon outfits they can run as absolutely wild as they want with optional ones.
And with the exception of Panette and Hortensia, they all seem to be.
The armor, capes, belts with bags, corsets, and frills you'd see on an old painting of a European Noble are alive and well!
Every FE game has its weird designs so those two being weird is just kinda meh to me. I actually enjoy Panette's look, its really selling the love of ghosts to me. And I adore her eye makeup.
And for Somniel being resort themed i just don't care much tbh
i like what i like from it and anything i don't is not major enough to turn me off from it. I actually think most of it is pretty cute.

I'm not a fan of My Castle, so the only part of the Somniel I'm interested in is the shops and ring area with the skill building. I'm not crazy about a lot of designs in the game either, especially since it pulls me out of the medieval war fantasy. These designs just feel more TMS-like, even the lighting is too colorful for me, and just doesn't give the right vibe for a game featuring war crimes and other atrocities. I'm still holding out hope we get more unique characters who are associated with the main cast, and just have to be unlocked through paralogues or other events. I already have a feeling Veyle is another divine dragon that will be playable, but I feel like we won't have child units cause there's been 0 mention of them (then again, Idr if fates teased them pre-release).
I just like the art design.. as I did with most FE games.. that´s it. If people dislike it it, they can.. It´s just funny so many people complain about the design when I never seem to have an issue with it.
I honestly personally hope that we get child characters. I genuinely think it's an amazing mechanic that more games should have because it can be super fun and meta making or super casual and waifu/husbando hunting

The character designs in Engage all look like they're about to go on stage and put on a show. It feels out of place for these characters to be trying to look their best before heading off to battle.
Also I haven't seen a single character call Alear by name yet so it seems like we'll be able to name our avatar. It was probably easier to just have "divine dragon" in the tooltips instead of a name.
At least there's always hope that the Echoes folks are cooking up something that doesn't look goofy.

Is it weird that the main giveaway, for me, that this game culminates so many time periods is seeing the people exercising around 18:20 and immediately recognizing they are wearing quite modern leggings? (Including for us right here on earth. You know like legging designs if I were to go back 20 years, I wouldn’t see.) it’s kind of neat to see what they grab, from what time period, yet still keep in the age of classic weaponry and such. But I digress. Given they have such insanely good looking period-esque clothing in the game, I’d probably never see my characters in modern stuff outside the castle.

I want to state first that I’m someone who likes history quite a lot and loves it when i see things that would be historically accurate to the time period being presented or if it’s a fantasy would have something be accurate to the time period(s) the setting is taking inspiration from. With that in mind I don’t necessarily care if something is super ahistorical unless it’s just too much if a leap in logic (don’t put cannons in a setting based off the Roman Republic even if it’s a fantasy setting).
Now FE obviously has had plenty of outfits that don’t really fit the setting but for the most part I can deal with that (sometimes I can’t help but get annoyed and taken out of the game like with F!Byleth’s outfits). It is a fantasy setting but it feels more down to earth and grounded than over the top. Engage, though, really pushes that limit if not crosses it and that hoodie or whatever that guy was wearing definitely crosses it. I know Ash had something like that in Houses but it was subtle and I didn’t notice it at first. this hoodie no.
I’m still excited for the game but the designs (specifically the outfits) I don’t really like

I don't think children will come back, I think the other divine dragon that will be recruited is either Alear's mom, or this game's version of Azura (the girl hiding behind the tree in a previous trailer. she could very well be a dragon). I hope S-ranks are only for Alear. I liked the way Three Houses kept it a mystery as to which characters will end up together.
The way some of the characters in game respond, it seems like the dialogue in the Somniel is not voiced and only contains voice clips, like Fates and Three Hopes. It's not that big a deal, but still a bummer for some reason.

i wonder if this game will have any new amibos for the fire emblem seires as the last one we got was byleths smash amiibo in 2021 and the last fire emblem seires we got was young tiki is oct of 2017 i also wonder how are outfits that dont have amiibo going to work like michia has an outfit but not an amiibo so will the outfits be random as long as its a fe amiibo
I had specifically imported female Corrin’s ambiibo and would have loved to have female Robin and Byleth…hoping we get both styles of Alear if they decide to release them.
