I brought this album when it first came out as a 19yo. It's still as relevant and mesmerising and transcends time. The arrangements and playing are astonishingly great, as are the songs.
Wongnaichhungrd , I agree with you , it's an absolutely marvellous album. I never tire of it and play it often. I used to skip " the jungle line " however it has grown on me in recent years.
Oh my. What an unreal job you've done with seemlessly intertwining the Quad mix (wish I could have a copy) with the original, as well as capturing this song and the 1970s in your visuals.
Fantastic work! Absolutely love what you’ve done with these incredible songs. Somehow you’ve managed to choose all my favourite Joni classics, thank you for the massive effort you’ve put into these videos, it’s so great of you to give these timeless masterpieces a visual platform, maybe more people will discover them as a result. ❤
Sonicboy19 I must say you have done an amazing job here not just on the editing but on the audio itself. I worked for Warner Elektra Atlantic during "the seventies" and this is one of my alltime favourite songs!
Thanks Andre! I tried incorporating some elements from the quad mix with the high-res download and thought it sounded interesting but needed some fine-tuning. By the time I came across the footage I had finished the mix. Glad that so many Joni fans are open to hearing it a little differently! :) I agree, Hissing is definitely up there with her best work...although a case could probably be made for any of her 70's albums.
@@sonicboy19 It's been a while since I listened to Hissing or Court and Spark in quad, but I seem to recall that the Hissing one was the more successful, more natural-sounding mix of the two. The audio sounds great on this clip and as mentioned elsewhere in these comments the video fits wonderfully well. Huge congratulations on this very fine piece of work... and thank you for sharing it with us all!
@@OhJonahII Thanks so much for your thoughtful comments Steve! Glad you enjoyed it! Yes I too prefer the Hissing quad mix over C&S. I find that each of the albums she recorded with Henry Lewy sounds quite distinct from a production/mixing perspective, and the same holds true for the quad mixes. C&S has a multi-dimensional quality to it even on the stereo mix. This combined with the somewhat heavy handed use of the two rear channels probably reflects the novelty of quad at the time, but I prefer something a bit more subtle, or natural, to use your analogy. Despite using a lot of the same band, I find the production/mixing on Hissing to be quite different from C&S in both stereo and quad. Aside from more experimental tracks like The Jungle Line, the production style is more restrained, less flashy, less saturated. It's one of my favorite albums, but sometimes I've thought that it would have been interesting had they perhaps found a middle ground between C&S's "jumping out of your speakers" quality and Hissing's more subtle nuances. The quad mix for Hissing works well for me because it gives it a boost in dynamics without sounding overcooked or gimmicky. There's definitely a cinematic element to the album and its themes, and a wider, fuller and punchier mix highlights some of the edgier elements in the music that get washed out in the stereo mix. It's just unfortunate that the quad mix has never been remastered and reissued in digital form, because I have yet to hear a perfect or even near-perfect sounding capture of it. Would be interesting to know whether a master (or a transfer of the master) of the quad mix still exists. If so, they should allow it to be reissued in digital form. And they should reissue For The Roses on vinyl too while they're at it (whoever "they" may be). 😄 Cheers!
“A helicopter lands on the Pan Am roof, like a dragonfly on a tomb…” This beautiful album paints such hypnotizing and gorgeous pictures in my head
One of my favorite artists of all time❤ this is also a great album too keep on keeping on joni Mitchell
Video chimes nicely with this classic song. One of Joni's best.
So wonderful! Her poetic lyrics far exceed anything today! Love it!
So much good music out there. But it seems these days you have to dig deeper to find it. Thank God I was born in a time when it was easier to find.
a beautiful fusion of joni's poetic voice and jazz. one of my favourite JM albums

Agreed. Been a JONI fan since the 70s. You did Fine job!! Who is on piano?? That solo isn't her style or sound.. its great tho.
@@randyduncan4004 Thanks Randy! No, it's definitely not her style of playing. According to the liner notes, the player was Joe Sample.
The video was wonderful to watch. Good job.
Nice visuals 👍👍👍
this is superb!
Enjoyed the video. Great work..
It’s a living.
Been there, done that...
holy fuckkkkk
Hey sonicboy19, Interested in how you adjusted the mix...did you work from a quad LP pressing or tape?
Harry styles
Harry’s inspo??
With their paper wives and paper kids/they paper the walls just to keep their gut impressions hid
Certainly one of the best lyrical couplets I've ever had the fortune of hearing!
