I picked up an Ipad Mini 5 a couple days ago and I love this device. It's the perfect size for me as I mainly just use it for games and media consumption. Especially with how easy it is to hold the mini with one hand. My favorite ipad by far and I'm so happy apple finally refreshed it (I had an ipad mini 2 from 2013 that was showing its age!). I dig the true tone display too.
@@rabote007 While the bezels could have been smaller, they don't bother me, make's holding the iPad easier. And I'm sure they didn't want to bottom feed by sliming it down and risk hurting sale's on their more expensive products.
i also want the mini for gaming and media consumption. is it good for watching movies? and is 64gb enough for web browsing, gaming, music and video streaming and future apple arcade? i wont download anything except some pdf and doc for study or office work.
The Mini 5 get a thumbs-up from me. I couldn't care less about the bezels or that it's the same as the Mini 4 outside. The display and internals count for me.

In my opinion this is the best apple device in terms of value.. I had an ipad mini 1 and it worked amazingly with 0 problems for like 5 years (until 2018)
I got the mini for Christmas with the pencil and I’ve been using it everyday. Truly great. If you want something you can take anywhere, recommend 100%.
iPad Pro doesn't have bezels as small as their phones. The bezels on the iPad Pro are more than enough to hold it comfortably and not have accidental touches. But the bezels on this iPad are just outdated and force you to carry and manage a bigger device for less screen (which for its main purpose of media consumption, is a bad thing)
It doesn’t looks old, actually mini 5 still looks very beautiful and well-balanced in 2019. I have both Pro 11 and mini 5, I don’t think Pro looks more modern/ advanced than mini 5, not at all.

@@Mike-oi2th I have a Huawei Media Pad 8.4. Cheap, small bezels, 16:9 format ideal for watching videos. Great speakers. Unless you are gaming I say it is a much better choice than the fat bezel new Ipad.
Brandon Clevert 16:9 tablets phased out because people realized that while they’re good for watching videos, thats the ONLY thing that form factor was good for on a tablet. For literally everything else from reading to web browsing to work, the more paperlike aspect ratio is superior.
On losing the cap to the Apple Pencil 1. Just buy an something that attaches to the pencil and keeps the cap attached to it. There are also pencil holders which attach to the smart cases to hold the pencil.
Finally!! Been holding off buying new iPad because it’s just too big for me. This one is definitely worth the wait. Never been bothered by the bezel. What truly matters for a tablet is how it perform, how long it will last and how good the screen is. It’s a tool, not a fashion icon. At least in my opinion 😁

Like I said. In my opinion. Because I never saw apple products as a fashion statement. I bought one because it’s simple, just work, has a great performance and superb support. I need small tablet that can still be manageable by one hand and has support for at least 5 years. If I care about tiny screen I wouldn’t pick the iPad Mini firsthand. The massive and outdated bezel doesn’t bother me, because like I said. What matter FOR ME is good screen, good performance, and good support. The bezel actually helps with handling a lot. So if you see apple product as a fashion statement, maybe you need to change your perception. Because there’s a lot of things out there that screams fashion more than apple products
Watched and commenting from my new iPad mini. I see a lot of people don't like the fact that they went with the same old design. Man I couldn't disagree more. I love the old school design. I have the 2018 iPad pro and the iPhone Xs as well and those new designs are great, but the mini is just absolutely perfect for me. I've been using my iPhone 6 Plus since new and it's getting annoyingly slow to use. But it's been my main device to watch RUclips. So instead of buying a new $1,000+ iPhone X Max, I got the new mini. Less than half the price. BLAZINGLY fast. Much bigger screen. I love the 4x3 aspect ratio. It's a joy to use. The pencil makes it great to use as a sketchpad. Most people don't seem to comment or know that it comes with an adapter in the box that allows you to charge it using a regular lightning cable. No need to plug it into the bottom of the iPad unless you need a quick top-up whilst on the go. Thanks to this new mini, my iPhone has gone back to being a device I just carry to text, make calls and take photos.
I've literally bought myself a new iPad Mini. I play some minor games, but mostly watch youtube or skype on it. So for these things, it is totally fine and I don't need a bigger iPad. I make maybe also some videos with it, but it is not that incredibly much, because I do that on my iPhone (which has a better Camera of course). So for me, this tablet is fine enough, as well if you consider, that the last iPad I ever had was an iPad Mini 1.
I bought gen 5 mini with 256gb as a backup for my iPad Pro 12.9. I have had this now for several months and this is my go to device for daily use, the 12.9 hardly gets used now. I love the gen 5 mini.
It is really a good time to come back to Apple. The last device i bought from them was the iPad Air 2. Today, there is a cheap yet powerful option for everyone, I will get this iPad Mini as a secondary tablet. My primary tablet will stay my Samsung Galaxy Tab S4 though.
This is the surprise update I'm really pleased about, I love the size as a tablet, but it's also a nice size to use as a navigation and entertainment device in the car. (for those who own a basic car, like me)
These are devices to use, not fashion statements. If bezels are off-putting then the Surface Go is also a problem. Bezels are not important on tablets unless you want to reduce the footprint, and of course, on an 8-inch display, this is not as relevant as the extra space allows for a slim device with a good battery. I think an 8-inch bezel-less ipad would be a pain.
Apple devices have been 90 percent fashion statements for many years. If you want innovation and a good price to performance ratio apple is not the place to go.

So even though other OEMs are competing in the fashion designs now they face their bad judgement in trying to save costs by using the freeware. Even on any of them if sales fall short, none are losing money just making less of it. Look at HTC, Sony and LG them not being able to make a profit or at the most breaking even. Saw a recent review of the new LG G8 ThinQ 128GB, looks pretty solid, and also see a legit US online retailer is selling the US unlocked model for $699.00, not really a bad price for a true flagship, which will have limited sales. If I didn't have an S10+ I might have bought it. While I think the name is goofy, the phone looks great.

Not really. I bought an iPad Air 4 10.5 inch about 2 weeks ago, and all I can say is that it is perfect for Netflix... iPad mini is more on gaming and travelling iPad since it is a portable device overall.
Would pay $150 more for these. 1. 120Hz 9inches screen with less Bezel. 2. Top and Bottom stereo speakers 3. Apple pencil 2 support 4. Keyboard cover support Perfect tablet. The pro version is too big to carry around without it getting bended.
For you and me yes, others, or those who have to buy multiple iPads, then the cost savings would add up. I still have the original iPad 9.7 (2016) case and keyboard. Except for a minor plastic tares on the case they work, though I wish they kb could be better. Logitech has a similar but bulkier product, with a better kb but not going to spend money on an older product. If and when I get another going to go with that product. Never had a need for the pencil so never bought it.
In my opinion the iPad Mini is the best tablet for me. It's the right size for a secondary device, so not quite as awkward to handle as a larger tablet would be, and it doesn't cost you an arm and a leg.
To answer your question I bought a heavily discounted IPad Pro 10.9 for just a few bucks more than the new iPad Air. I am still rocking a mini 2 for watching RUclips and movies on flights. The mini 2 is sluggish for apps....even typing, but video and movies are still fine. If when it won’t hold a battery charge or load video apps, I’ll definitely pick up a mini 5. Ipads last a long time. My wife just upgraded her original Pad 2 to the IPad with the A9 chip a couple years ago. She uses it daily and it’s still plenty smooth. My mini 2 is running iOS 12.2 fine. I expect my new-ish pro to last several years. I kinda do want a mini 5 sooner than later though....since I can use my IPad pencil and Bluetooth keyboards with it...
I’ve had the regular IPad and I like the mini better, I’m actually on my second one. First one was second generation and now I have the 3rd generation now and I love the mini.
Apple would be forgiven for the bezel if they had bundled the pencil with the Ipad! $400 deserves a more modern looking exchange. But I agree the size is very convenient.
It's 2021. I just bought an ipad mini from 2019..brand new. Crazy. My main criteria was hand hold ability. So it's too late now for me. This will be with me when I die. That's sobering.

Euroker's Digital Life I firmly believe your mind would change if you had Face ID for a little while. It’s far more slick and convenient. I’d say this is especially true for iPads, as if you’re using a keyboard you’re far less likely to be touching the screen at any given time. That alone makes Face ID much better.
I love bezels, headphone jacks and lighting ports. Just because Apple love to take things off of their products and change more for them doesn't mean they were bad.
I'm Apple user 6 years I've been using my Apple device and everything gets done well even the apps are still have capable to use it if your looking for cheap iPad just for social media web browsing face time call and little games and productive app you use its just good for you if you are not fit on budget to buy the newer even the new iPhone

For the vast majority of people, since tablets are secondary consumption devices, the entry level iPad will be where the decision should start and end. It is a wonderful device that will meet MOST people's needs. MOST. Every other model, especially Pro, is niche for a niche buyer. They aren't bad at all, but the $329 USD iPad will more than satisfy 98% of people.
Impossible to fit a 9in screen and face id. For face id you need larger bezels (they had to increase the ones on the 10.5 to get it to 11, changing the aspect ratio). So with a pro design you can only fit 8.5in at best and would have thicker bezels than now on 2 sides. I don't know if half a inch is a worthy trade-off against a more uncomfortable use. I have every size of ipads and I am glad they kept the more comfortable design on the mini (which you hold in one hand more than other tablets)
the only diffence I see is the pro motion ipad pros have 120ghz and a bigger screen, other than that the ipad mini 5 rocks in terms of performance day to day usage and most of all in portability department👍
I hope your nephew won't rely too much on playing games on devices (unless it's educational game that can help improve his learning) as a child that young might be vulnerable to screen distractions in future... On the other hand, great review! I got iPad mini with same papaya smart cover too and it's the best thing I ever bought this year ^^
Would this be recommended for school? Ive got a nice laptop, and a phone but for notes and research I think this would be great, if you want to recommend a Chromebook, I've had enough horror using their annoying UI for years at school already

I was waiting for the new iPad mini but I think I'm just going to stick with my Huawei mediapad, it's has a taller aspect so it's better for reading and also has four speakers so that's also a plus for watching media and it also has sd card support so plenty of room for movies and books and any kind of music. I'm sure that Mini is fast and handles all the apps in the app Store great I just wish it had been updated on the outside a bit.

At that price range the Mini has the exact same specs but it’s smaller and full Retina. I got the Mini for Photo Editing and it’s enough, the Pro would be better for me but I want a 9” Pro to come out
I think when you need an IPad . You need at least a respectable screen size . Mini ones makes these close to the big size phones . Mini doesn’t takes my money . IPAD air starts from 729$ and screen size is bigger and face+touchID along
I have the Google apps store on My Amazon HD 10. It works perfectly and its construction is stronger than any Apple iPad. It is also a fraction of the cost.
Has had the Apple Pencil since January 2016 haven’t lost the cap yet, but then Again I store it in the box the Pencil came in when I need to charge the Apple Pencil. The box looks like shit now, but it does do the trick as a way to store my Apple Pencil and its cap when I need to charge the Pencil.

iPad mini is more on gaming and travelling iPad since it is a portable device overall.

Would pay $150 more for these.
1. 120Hz 9inches screen with less Bezel.
2. Top and Bottom stereo speakers
3. Apple pencil 2 support
4. Keyboard cover support
Perfect tablet. The pro version is too big to carry around without it getting bended.
Adding that would raise the price way more than 150$
For you and me yes, others, or those who have to buy multiple iPads, then the cost savings would add up. I still have the original iPad 9.7 (2016) case and keyboard. Except for a minor plastic tares on the case they work, though I wish they kb could be better. Logitech has a similar but bulkier product, with a better kb but not going to spend money on an older product. If and when I get another going to go with that product. Never had a need for the pencil so never bought it.
In my opinion the iPad Mini is the best tablet for me. It's the right size for a secondary device, so not quite as awkward to handle as a larger tablet would be, and it doesn't cost you an arm and a leg.
To answer your question I bought a heavily discounted IPad Pro 10.9 for just a few bucks more than the new iPad Air. I am still rocking a mini 2 for watching RUclips and movies on flights. The mini 2 is sluggish for apps....even typing, but video and movies are still fine. If when it won’t hold a battery charge or load video apps, I’ll definitely pick up a mini 5. Ipads last a long time. My wife just upgraded her original Pad 2 to the IPad with the A9 chip a couple years ago. She uses it daily and it’s still plenty smooth. My mini 2 is running iOS 12.2 fine. I expect my new-ish pro to last several years. I kinda do want a mini 5 sooner than later though....since I can use my IPad pencil and Bluetooth keyboards with it...
I’ve had the regular IPad and I like the mini better, I’m actually on my second one. First one was second generation and now I have the 3rd generation now and I love the mini.
I wish all the technophiles would stop whinging about bezels and home buttons. I work in landscape and need bezels for that.

It's 2021. I just bought an ipad mini from 2019..brand new. Crazy. My main criteria was hand hold ability. So it's too late now for me. This will be with me when I die. That's sobering.

Euroker's Digital Life I firmly believe your mind would change if you had Face ID for a little while. It’s far more slick and convenient. I’d say this is especially true for iPads, as if you’re using a keyboard you’re far less likely to be touching the screen at any given time. That alone makes Face ID much better.

I love bezels, headphone jacks and lighting ports. Just because Apple love to take things off of their products and change more for them doesn't mean they were bad.

I'm Apple user 6 years I've been using my Apple device and everything gets done well even the apps are still have capable to use it if your looking for cheap iPad just for social media web browsing face time call and little games and productive app you use its just good for you if you are not fit on budget to buy the newer even the new iPhone

For the vast majority of people, since tablets are secondary consumption devices, the entry level iPad will be where the decision should start and end. It is a wonderful device that will meet MOST people's needs. MOST.
Every other model, especially Pro, is niche for a niche buyer. They aren't bad at all, but the $329 USD iPad will more than satisfy 98% of people.
I personally love bezels on a tablet,cuz it gives a better hold and control (esp when gaming)
Like others, i object to the silly “huge” description of the bezels. I use the mini as a video camera in landscape and I NEED the bezels.

This is the perfect device for content consumption, however, if you need something for university or doing projects go for Air 3
An iPad Pro mini in the same foot print of the old mini but with a 9" screen would have been far more interesting.
Impossible to fit a 9in screen and face id. For face id you need larger bezels (they had to increase the ones on the 10.5 to get it to 11, changing the aspect ratio). So with a pro design you can only fit 8.5in at best and would have thicker bezels than now on 2 sides. I don't know if half a inch is a worthy trade-off against a more uncomfortable use. I have every size of ipads and I am glad they kept the more comfortable design on the mini (which you hold in one hand more than other tablets)

the only diffence I see is the pro motion ipad pros have 120ghz and a bigger screen, other than that the ipad mini 5 rocks in terms of performance day to day usage and most of all in portability department👍
You don’t HAVE to charge the pencil like that. It does have an adaptor in the box to use the lightning cable. Funny how no YTuber mentions that.

I don't know why everyone gets so obsessed by getting new designs !? It works it is ok! Last time Apple makes a new design we got MacBook pros that don't work, just get hot, bad keyboard and expensive as hell! I think it's a great design and the size is awesome

I agree iPad is the only good option to go for "if" a tablet form is required. Is a tab form actually needed in 2019? 6 inch phones are now a necessity.

I was waiting for the new iPad mini but I think I'm just going to stick with my Huawei mediapad, it's has a taller aspect so it's better for reading and also has four speakers so that's also a plus for watching media and it also has sd card support so plenty of room for movies and books and any kind of music. I'm sure that Mini is fast and handles all the apps in the app Store great I just wish it had been updated on the outside a bit.

Hellfire YT No contest, the iPad Air. Especially if you need a bigger display for drawing and Netflix. If you travel an awful lot the Mini is easier to carry. At that price range the Mini has the exact same specs but it’s smaller and full Retina. I got the Mini for Photo Editing and it’s enough, the Pro would be better for me but I want a 9” Pro to come out

I have the Google apps store on My Amazon HD 10. It works perfectly and its construction is stronger than any Apple iPad. It is also a fraction of the cost.

Has had the Apple Pencil since January 2016 haven’t lost the cap yet, but then Again I store it in the box the Pencil came in when I need to charge the Apple Pencil. The box looks like shit now, but it does do the trick as a way to store my Apple Pencil and its cap when I need to charge the Pencil.

I have a 64 gb iPhone 8 Plus and I got the 2 tb iCloud storage. I ran up the storage. 😅😅I have a lot of photos. So now I have about 50gb used on my iPhone storage and about 200gb of iCloud storage
They can easily fit a 9.7 inch 16 by 9 screen in that body. For most people there’s no difference between iPad mini 4 and this one.
