I have had a 335i now for 15 years upgrades over the last 7 years are Td0 4 turbos at 18 psi FBO LTD diff full seal kit in auto runninnig MHD and XHP stage 3 upgraded full pump and modified fuel pump driver with cooling fan dyno's at 550 reliable HP , and have never used E85 the main killer of reliability in these engines. at 1350KGs and a very stock looking E90 those Mustang and Dodge boys sure get one hell of a shock when this little old man is looking at them in his reaveiw, what a buzz, the most realiable and fun car I have owned, and I have owned a lot of muscle cars in my 50 years of driving.

I got a bmw 2011 335i and just started having problem with the engine. Still not sure how serious the problem is but I had someone run some codes and told me I needed a new vanos solenoid. The engine is at 120,000 miles. Since the engine light came on the engine would make this knocking sound and the power of the car started going down as I drove it. So I’m looking into making whatever upgrades and adjustments I need to make cuz the previous owner did not do so but kept it sort of we’ll maintained. Any suggestions or advice you could swing my way ?

Like everybody else you missed discussing the weight of new wheel: What ever you do, avoid anything that is more heavy than the stock wheels. This will be VERY difficult to achieve if you to go from 17" to 18 or 19" rim diameter. And regarding the coilovers - the friction of the sealing is of major importance as it help the suspension to modulate also the smaller variations in the road surface height. Nobody apart from the serious racing community (or bike world) has any focus on this. It also improves ride quality a lot.

The n55 and n54 engines are made to support a maximum of 430 HP. Placing turbos that take them to 500 and 600 hp only makes the engine work beyond its capabilities, its useful life is greatly reduced.
Is perfect car to put on 400-420 HP with Stage 2. Like M3. Just Inteecooler, Downpipe and Admision Kit. Nothing more. 400-430CV for a lot of years without problems.

I've been running my N54 at 560 whp for 6 years and 80,000 miles at that configuration. I've had an injector fail and replaced the water pump in that time. It is my daily driver and the N54 doesn't break a sweat at all at that power.
N55 I haven't owned, but I can speak well for the N54 and you are very wrong about it. It was over engineered for it's time and goals. This is coming from an automotive engineer. I've worked as a design engineer in the automotive industry for 25 years.

Hi, the reason turbosuperchargers heat the intake air is because you are increasing the entropy of the system i.e. you are doing work to the intake charge. The work done is the increase of pressure via compressor not the heat transfer of the turbine wheel. Since temperature is directly proportional to the pressure via the ideal gas law, you end up with higher IAT. At an atomic level, this is due to the molecules banging into each other as they move around in a higher density configuration.

5:39 Okay our friendly host here is a little out of date at the point of making this video. Almost everything he's stating at the start of this section is incorrect. Even two years ago when he made it, MHD was already or had already begun to give the great JB4 a real run for it's money and has actually been the tuners favorite. There was not a clear leader back at this time among consumers except for the price point. Which MHD was clearly less cash. Both had advantages and dis advantages. Now since this video the clear winner is definitely MHD. Since they've added the Anti Lag, Flex fueling, Multi maps and so many more features to their platform they are now leading and leading at a much less expensive price point. JB4 is more than twice the money and for the almost $700 it takes to get most of the features you're still left with something that isn't as flexible and doesn't include all of the features MHD does for the now Approximately $350 to $400 (If you're from Canada like me) gives you. I'm not saying JB4 isn't a great way to go. I'm saying they are now being left behind by the newer and more flexible technology of the MHD system. One phone and dongle makes it so you can purchase tunes for many different vehicles as well. Without installing anything other than the Mods you want on the different cars. Even if you opt for the JB4 to really use all of your mods fully you'll need to use MHD for the "Back end Flash".

Charge pipes may become brittle over time, but they usually fail along the seams. My preferred brand is Evolution Raceworks.
Intercoolers, you pretty much get for what you pay. I prefer ATM. Avoid all the cheap Chinese knock offs, some if which are sold under US branded dealers.
Decatting the down pipes is hardly worth the extra gain in HP unless you go to redline on every shift. They way the climate is going on the planet, one might want to reflect on how special they really are over every one else.
An MHD flash is much better than dekayed and inaccurate readings from a piggyback. No OEM has ever used a piggy back over a natively flashed tune. Never.
When corrosive methanol injection systems fail, it is usually catastrophic for the engine. Also, invisible flames can be fun, right? Good luck with your insurance company.
