"Fake it till you make it" was brought to me during a work lecture and kept hearing it a lot at work. So I tried it. I found out "what a failure it was". It caused a massive overload of stress and anxiety that increased, trying to fulfill a lie! I was lying to myself and making the situation worse. Then I realised what a rotten idea! Reality was best! "So your in a Crap situation, deal with it the best you can was better"!

Me, personally I believe in "fake it until you make it" but not in the way you've described in the video Gary. I never portray myself to friends for the vanity that I've made it.
For me, I faked it when I approached clients I wanted to work when I was first making the transition into freelance work. I knew I could deliver however I wasn't able to demonstrate with previous work. I talked my way into winning the job, I then delivered on what I promised. Now I have examples of work to evidence what I'm telling them I'm going to do. I faked it, then I made it.

Every time you post something I feel so inspired to keep going. I am naturally impatient and prone to "pretend" I'm someone I'm not when my real story is way more interesting. I just know I can succeed, I just have to have patience and let my true (and kinda weird) self be out there, even if it feels ridiculous at first. It took me a year an a half of watching your videos before I actually made the jump and posted my first real youtube video. In it, I was being myself and the fear I felt before hitting the upload button was real. Because of your content and sheer motivation, I just did it, and I've posted twice a week (along with working full time) since then. I feel a bit of momentum starting with my channel, and I'm forever grateful to your comments and authenticity. Thanks for being the push to get me started. I've wanted to be a fashion designer since I was in elementary school, and now, I'm 30 and finally determined to consistently chase my goal, no matter what noise around me tells me not to. I'm not faking any more.

I am accomplished poet, and I don't look the part cause I don't got time to fake it until I made it. I made it the moment I became a master poet. There is alot of fake writers on RUclips, they try to look like they are real successful master writers and only giving prompts but their work is not original and they don't teach HOW to do it, like I do. My work is proof that I ain't taking it. 😊

Good point, you're lying to yourself when you do this and many people don't realise how destructive it actually is. They can achieve whatever they set out to achieve and then feel suicidal because they live a lie.

Although sadly the fakery has become more subtle. The tuxedo, big house, and flash car has been replaced by someone giving advice online in their Dressing gown, burping, farting, and swearing claiming to be authentic.

Thanks Gary V you are absolutely an amazing human being keep it up. Fake it till you make it is terrible advice because you are supposed to keep it real with yourself and others at all times. The more honest you are with yourself the more you will grow The more honest you are with yourself the more you will grow.
Realise who you are and what your inclinations are, and then follow them. No need to be anyone else, no need to be like that guy / that girl. It's always obvious. Be yourself, accept yourself, and then work on improving yourself. This is the best recipe for growth and lasting change.

This really is the truth. I’ve just been overwhelmed with fake accounts constantly following me and then the unfollow me. I know that eventually they’ll be exposed so I don’t give a shit about them anymore. I just talk to the ones who speak to me.
Actually the journey is most important, and when you do that shift you don't feel so bad when things does not go your way🌸

Like exactly how much money you have in your bank account; ie I think companies could take advantage of this because they will be able make "low ball" offers depending on how desperately you need the money. Or like when Logan Paul filmed the corpse in the Japanese suicide forest and lost so much credibility. You can definitely be TOO REAL

I always heard the phrase "fake it in order to make it" but I think that philosophy doesn't work anymore if it ever did. I think that Gary is right and being authentic will lead to a happier life.
This is simply amazing. I have recently moved to a new country so I do not have a lot of friends. I have thought about faking it till I make it but this has opened my eyes as I started caring about what other people thought of me so I was thinking I should fake some shit and get clout so people would actually like me and stuff. Tbh this has opened my eyes and I will definitely take this advice to heart.

In my former profession, this behavior was rampant. I’m glad to be in a place where I can enjoy the journey.
This really resonated with me. This reminded me of a video put out by the team at donut media not super long ago on the history of Pagani. The video is actually really good but that’s beside the point. Basically the guy who started it built a full-fledged race car to damn near perfect spec with exactly zero professional experience and from totally scratch in his garage and when he went to Renault for a motor cause he didn’t have the cash to get one and their tech and engineers looked at and said holy shit this is bad ass they found him a driver, gave him sponsor ship for the motors and other stuff. Fast forward a good bit of time the first zones project is coming along and he yet again needs a motor. He goes back to the same guy he went to for the race motors who got him in with Mercedes to build v12’s for his cars and who still build the motors for them today. There was no faking it that this dude had shear and raw talent and was going some where weather others wanted him to or not. I have some really crazy ass ideas in my head that I am going to test and while i talk about them constantly to people and drive some people a lil nuts with it, i feel like I some of him in me. So I hope to someday meet u in person and do some experimental car taking on some shit that will turn the damn industry on its head.

i get the point here why it can be real bad advice, but for me the message of faking it till you make it means to adapt the mindset of a Person that achieved your Goal already, in order to understand how to get there. While you're adapting new mindset points you're fake in some kind of way, but that's necessary to get where you want and to become who you want, bc your goals often have nothing in common with your present personality. For me it works :)

I was studying and follow a very difficult education with 3 seperate sections. Marketing, Standbuilding and Shoppingwindow-decoration (designing, creating, presenting, administering.)
When we were told to make 100 designs, for tomorrow, many of us groaned angrily and started sketching. I worked all night and came back to the teacher exhausted with a pack of paper.
"I have 54 designs.." I said in all honesty. "I put time and work in..I thought of every design, they're well-made, but there are 54."
He answered; 'You know what you need to do then. Make another 46. You are now behind on your classmates.."
He checked the rest of the class, who all claimed there were 100, but none were numbered and some quickly flicked through them.
Turns out they had copied each others work and designs from the internet. Plus, some were made close together and therefore looked like two, but were in fact one (like a flower and a petal.)
So, I was being punished for working properly and had to do extra work that weekend, and the teacher didn't even look at the sketches when I was finished.
I was being taught that quantity was more important than quality. And that paying the man at the copymachine to horizontally mirror the images (to get an extra 10 "new" sketches in) was fine.
People said; 'I worked all weekend" and instead, paid the wood-cutter to build their presentation-table. People said; 'I gathered a stack of pictures' and instead, had paid their sister to do it for them.
But since the teachers didn't care, nobody was caught and everyone knew they were faking it, except for me.
I was brought up with honesty and hard work being important values. So I handmade everything I was told to handmake. And I sketched everything with effort and time, not for quantity.
Luckily I can assure you that I do not live by these things now. I put lots of effort and time in my work and it is greatly appreciated. All attention to detail is perfect and nothing is wonky or 'quickfixed' or faked.
And théy didn't learn a thing from their work. Since they didn't make it themselves. I still remember the skills I gained through the work and I can use those skills for myself and my work now.

Good point with how it only fools other losers. It’s just a bunch of losers pretending to be cooler than the other guy pretending to be cool. They put all their money and thought into looking the part. You have to take that money and all your time and actually becoming that person that you’re pretending to be. Which ironically means doing pretty much the opposite.

This is a real thing - but this generate was fed the idea "fake it til you make it".... its just easier to fake it now because people assume that social media is real.
@garyvee -Couldnt agree,I have seen lot of people applying the same fake it till you make it strategy and causing lot of damage without even realising it.Such people misleads more people.Another thing is that people do it because coz they feel that is only to way to get but its not.Very rare people knows the importance of being themselves.
