  • In this video, we will see how we install rivets to a bag, using a hole punch and a rivet press. I buy my rivets from www.springfiel... or from them on Amazon.
You can buy the rivet press on Amazon as well. And then you can paint it the color you want. :)

Get a Japanese book punch drill, they’re perfect for making holes for rivets as they can reach anywhere and you can see where you’re placing the holes easier :)

Thank you, CazKiwi. Sounds like a good tool. Where do you get those?

Where did you get your rivet puncher? How did you paint it pink? It looks so fun.

I bought it on Amazon. Remember to purchase the other tools you need, whether you want to install rivets, grommets or press buttons. Then I masked the moving parts with masking tape for painting, and then I spray painted it twice with pink spray paint. So much fun!

6/9/22: Hi Unni. Can you please let me know what type of rivet press machine you have? I've been studying so many on Amazon and there's a lot of "Don't buy this one" on the reviews I've read, so I'm apprehensive about placing an order unless I know for sure that the one I get will work without problems. Thank you.

Hi Conishkee. I bought a green one like this, and painted it to make it more fun. www.amazon.com/FLK-Tech-Industrial-Grommet-Grommets/dp/B07RM2K46Z/ref=sr_1_9?crid=27UT24KY30LYW&keywords=rivet+press&qid=1654801670&sprefix=rivet+press%2Caps%2C100&sr=8-9

@@AnneBonneyBags Thanks for the feedback, but just so I'm certain, this machine, although it indicates "Hand Press Grommet Machine", it can also be used for "Rivets" too? Additionally, did you have to purchase any additional Dies for the rivets or can the "Dies" that come with the machine work with the rivets too? Whew, that was a mouthful!

@@conishkee Hi Conishkee. Yes, this is a rivet and a grommet press. There are different "dies" for grommets and rivets. Make sure you buy the regular 9mm (length) rivets for bag making in different colors. I bought this tool for the rivets that I screw onto the machine. www.amazon.com/gp/product/B06WRTPMPV/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&th=1

@@AnneBonneyBags Okay, GREAT!! I just placed the order for the machine and the die which, by the way, I found a super deal getting 2 dies, one 8mm and the other a 10mm for $12.95. I'm looking forward to receiving it and the fun I'm going to have creating. And, you painting your device pink was a cool idea; they charge more for it, Ugh! It probably took some meticulous wrapping to avoid getting it on parts you didn't want colored, I bet. Thanks again, Unni, for your feedback. I'm newly subscribed and a fan, so I'll be looking out for your videos. Have a fabulous day!

6/13/22: Hi Unni. I got my machine today and, while I’ve been having some fun with it, small projects to start, I noticed that the top piece of the dies do not twist up into the chamber totally and I can see the screw marks on the die that’s left after it goes up halfway. I don’t think this is supposed to happen. As a matter of fact, yours looks higher up into the chamber than mine, like it’s screwed in all the way in your video. And because of this, I am not able to insert a thick piece of fabric to rivet because the space between the top die and bottom base is narrow. You get the picture? If mine looked like yours, it wouldn’t be a problem. Nevertheless, I had to revert back to doing it manually, but I ruined 6 rivets doing it that way with the hammer, Ugh! Additionally, the black piece with the silver metal spiral on it, the part that is pushed down when using the handle, I noticed that there’s a silver pin on one side. Is this supposed to be removable so that it takes the piece a bit higher? I don’t want to mess with it where I cause damage. I’ve been looking for tutorials on how to work this particular machine, I found others, but not for this one. I hate to bother you, but can you please let me know what I’m doing wrong, especially with not being able to screw in the top dies? Should I oil the dies with some WD-40 since they're new, use a pair of pliers, or send it back for another one? Thank you for whatever feedback you can offer. I hope you’re doing well on the island! 😊

Hi Conishkee. I'm sorry for your trouble. Sounds to me like there is something blocking the hole where you screw in the upper die. But it is impossible for me to give sensible suggestions as to what to do. You just have to struggle with it, or take it to a machine shop to guys who are used to dealing with machinery and fixing problems. Good luck!

@@AnneBonneyBags Thank you. What I will do is send it back, because after even inserting a chopstick into the hole, I can feel that there's definitely a blockage of steel with no room whatsoever for anything to get through it. Thank you for getting back to me with your suggestion. I'll let you know how the next one I order works. Have a good day!

No, that's a press that I ordered from Amazon. Then I painted it with spray paint.
