It is pretty funny when you put it into perspective that the Islanders have won more playoff series (by far) than Toronto since Tavares and Lou switched teams
@@MikeBartner also the financials of staying relevant while heading into a new arena, (on top of losing your franchise player). Probably generated more revenue in those playoff runs than the Islanders had made the previous 15 years combined. Why I believe ownership was/is happy with Lou.
I definitely agree i mean obviously there's going to be some bumps down the road but the way he drafted top players in the late rounds is super impressive and im a sens fan
I genuinely think if the Islanders beat Tampa Bay in those conference finals they could've been back to back Stanley cup champs. Lou def build a Stanley cup team for a few years for the isles
Apart from the last couple of years, most of his decisions made sense. If he hadn't given term to Engvall and Mayfield, the rest of his moves would have been quite productive. Both Varly and Sorkin's contracts provided great value. It was a bit of an overpay for Pager, but he has been the core of the roster. Lee's contract is too long, but his stats are not bad at all; he's just slow. Nelson's deal was great, and Palms' was a pretty decent deal. Duclair will eventually provide great value. Barzy and Horvat's contracts are at market value. Getting rid of Ladd, Bailey, and Leddy was necessary. Tsyplakov might end up being a steal. I think the Towes trade was the only bad move, but they had to re-sign Barzal, so I understand. Also, not protecting Eberle in the expansion draft was a bad choice. Overall, Lou did well.
So I grew up a flyers fan but my second favorite team was always the isles. Lou’s term has absolutely been a success, growing up the islanders were hot dog shit. They traded so many future stars away, and they hitched themselves to Rick dipietro who never played and when he did he sucked. They were irrelevant for like 15 years. They got a little better around 2016 but lou really got them to being the most relevant that they have been in so long. They’re a consistent playoff team and they went to two Eastern conference championship rounds. He has made some bad moves but losing Tavares and having to find a new face while staying competitive he really did a solid job
I remember towards the end of the Tavares era, just making the playoffs or winning a round was a huge deal. Couple conference finals, pretty steadily competitive. The short hair and no beard thing is stupid though.
@@MikeBartner still remember when you guys beat the Panthers that one year. Pretty sure Tavares was the one who scored on Luongo. Also, Lou traded us the 9th overall pick in 2013 (Horvat), so I have to appreciate the guy. Even though he was with the Devils at the time. But now Horvat is an Islander and we have Raty and Hronek lol. So it all worked out haha.
Personally I think the reason is because of the true GOAT fan, Mike Bartener. Even when playing boring hockey, he still loves them
HAHAAHHAHAHA
Trotz was boring hockey, right now it’s not boring if you’re a fan it’s just frustrating

More playoffs series wins IN Toronto too because of the bubble lmfaooooo
Great point which wraps up this whole video- it’s the 2nd most successful run in Islander history.
Yep by a large margin too

Yeeeeeaaa gives me PTSD
I'm not saying the Isles are great (NJ > NYI > NYR) but some of the slander around them has been CRAZY.
Fr they act like he blew this amazing core

Well said!
Thank you!
Do you think if Tavares was there for those ECF runs they could’ve made it further?
Maybe but also they don't get Varlamov without letting Tavares walk and he was lights out for both runs

Yup people act like they were this high level team with expectations pre Lou
